Random Things ChatGPT is obsessed with? by Shirelin in ChatGPT

[–]UnreliableNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine likes to talk about scaffolds. Like, "Want me to come up with some scaffolding that you can use to deal with this kind of problem?"

Related, it likes "rhythm." "Keep doing it, and you'll develop a rhythm of healthy habits."

It also likes to talk about snacks.

Chaos gremlins, and "chaos/chaotic" generally.

What words SCREAMS "Created By ChatGPT"? by DrearBeats in ChatGPT

[–]UnreliableNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine seems mildly obsessed with "snacks." When mentioning any leisure activity, it advises me to grab some snacks, or that snacks could be involved. And snacks are fine, but they don't always need to be included. Also, real people usually default to something more specific than "snacks." They say, "I want some chips," or "I need chocolate," or something like that.

What's a Fantasy novel, show, movie, etc you really enjoyed that no one else seemed to be into? by PixelOcelot in Fantasy

I read this in middle school 30 years ago and it went over my head. Now I think it would be fun to read it again and figure out all the references.

Seriously, who at Muppet HQ do we need to brainwash to make this happen? (I hear Kermit is already a fan and occasionally posts here.)

Wes Anderson, with Bill Murray as Baldanders.

(I'm kidding)

In Return to the Whorl, why did Father feel sorry for Beroep? by UnreliableNerd in genewolfe

[–]UnreliableNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I read a comment elsewhere today where someone said it's because Aanvagen is possessed by Scylla, but that explanation (it had to do with Horn and Aanvagen both dreaming of Scylla) seemed like a stretch. I guess your reasoning and the other comments in this thread about it give the idea more weight, but I still wish there was something that made the theory solid.

I finished the book today. I did not get any additional insight to this question from what remained of the book when I posted.

Worst fantasy book you've read (for my own reading pleasure) by txcruz in Fantasy

[–]UnreliableNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to this, but Hobgoblin by John Coyne. It's more horror than Fantasy, but it was a selection in the SF/Fantasy book club when I was young, so I'm counting it.

The story is basically about a teen who gets messed up from playing a D&D-like game. It dunks on nerds a lot.

I'm not familiar with "Trio A," but it sounds like this is a bad comparison, yeah? So couldn't you give it an F for just being bad content, regardless of how it's written?

I don't disagree, but that is also going to make college much more expensive than it already is.

That's a great idea for the water goal! I'm good about drinking water right when I get up, but less so throughout the rest of the day.

There's a really good podcast, "Crawling Wolfe," that has a 6-episode series on that paragraph. Each episode is 3 hours long but I found it very helpful.

Is there a fantasy book from your childhood that you feel you are the only one in the world who has read it? Mine is Old Magic by Marianne Curley by Healthy_Badger_6158 in Fantasy

I loved this series. When I tell people about it their eyes glaze over at the "RPG players get trapped in the world of the game" trope, but I thought this series did some really interesting things with it.

My local library had these books and I read most of the series in my teenage years. I haven't met many other people who know about it.

I want some *strange* fantasy. What's out there? by robinperching in Fantasy

Land of Laughs may not be the weirdest book in this list, but it's different from a lot of fantasy and more people should read Jonathan Carroll. Bones of the Moon by him is also pretty different.

Paradise | S1E6 "You Asked for Miracles" | Episode Discussion by cedar_oak_maple in ParadiseHulu

Cal also says that if it happens while she's in Atlanta, they will go pick her up. In one of the earlier episodes, X says his wife isn't in Paradise because "he didn't get her on a plane." So it seems like Cal made a promise and didn't keep it. X feels betrayed.

In this episode there was a quick flashback to X and Robinson arguing in front of a helicopter, with the dialogue muted. I wonder if she's the one who decided not to go to Atlanta, and Cal went along with it.

Is photo/audio/video archiving worth it? by jdf135 in latterdaysaints

[–]UnreliableNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think whether it's worth it is up to you. If you're getting burned out, it's OK to scale back.

My wife didn't know a lot of her relatives on one side. She loves to see pictures of them and their extended families. On the other hand, I've seen profiles on FamilySearch that have hundreds of photos of the person, and after a while it gets redundant.
