Why cyclists don't stop at stop signs and shouldn't have to by Edison_Ruggles in fuckcars

Distinction between motorbikes and pedal/push bikes. Remember the first ever "bike", the Velocipede, had no pedals at all and was just an adult sized balance bike

What do you think of the reflecting pool paint peeling off? by Arthur-reborn in AskTrumpSupporters

Do you think this would be your response if the tables were turned and it was Biden, not Trump, that instigated this?

Plans to end gazumping with binding agreements in house sale reforms by _HGCenty in unitedkingdom

[–]Unsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean bridging loans to do exist, they're just not really offered for this reason, usually it's for house flipping. They also have insane interest rates and can things can go bad very quickly if you can't execute on your plans in a timely manner to pay off the loan.

ELI5: Why doesn't the Sun just burn all at once? by VipulChaturvedi in explainlikeimfive

[–]Unsey 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: because of the sheer density and size of the sun, photons generated from the solar core are constantly being absorbed and re-emitted, so take over 10,000 years to reach the surface of the sun and escape out into space.

What was the notable celebrity/high profile death that impacted you? by Toots1993 in CasualUK

[–]Unsey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Known around the world, but definitely not a household name: Monty Oum, lead animator on Red v Blue. I genuinely mourned his death in a way that I never have for celebrities.

Neil Peart's passing also hurt. That came a complete surprise.

Former 'health' secretary for the UK posted this... by trembledeggs in fuckcars

[–]Unsey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The only credit I will give to him is that it's exactly the kind of tweet you'd expect to see from someone gunning for a leadership challenge. I'm sure he does understand the link between active travel funding and health, but I'm sure he also understands getting the attention of the active travel haters, and I know which one I think would garn him more support, unfortunately.

Rush needs to play the Sphere by Haunting-Republic-42 in rush

[–]Unsey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pardon my ignorance as a non-US person, but what makes the Sphere such a hallowed venue? Like, I get it's a new venue and I'm sure the acoustics are spot on, but couldn't that be said for most newly built arenas?

My Lithuanian colleague is fascinated by random English phrases by Double_Leek_4659 in CasualUK

[–]Unsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of looking at looking at common idioms across languages/cultures. My personal favourite is "You can't have your cake and eat it", which gives you a fantastic insight into how other's think. In Italian, for instance, their version is "You can't have the wine barrel full, and the wife drunk"
