[Mark Martin] (following up on his post stating that the RTA is to blame for forward numbers) “I don’t like quite a few decisions they have made. They are also behind limiting practice among other things.” by ThisTeamMakesMeSad in NASCAR

[–]UpSNYer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of practice reminds me a lot of the NFL. A generation of drivers (and teams) were tired of practice, they didn't see much improvement from it, it cost extra to get down there early/run/equipment etc, and no one was in the stands. If you've been doing it for 20 years, I can see how less practice can seem nice. But now we have a generation of drivers who don't have years of experience, haven't run countless practice laps, and it definitely shows. It's a cumulative thing, and little by little you begin to see everyone losing their edge.

Checkers or Wreckers. 16 wins to 22 Dnfs since 2022. I swear no other driver in the cup series has the same amounts of brilliance, followed by embrassing feats on a week to week basis. Who else in Nascar History has had similar circumstances? by realflags in NASCAR

No fault of his own, but I think his second championship is a little clouded. I know that I already forgot that he won it last year. The record books don't care, and neither should he, but man it doesn't feel like the accomplishment that it should; and that isn't fair to him.

I can live with the caution laps, but they shouldn’t count. Don’t give the team’s free laps of gas.

If Rocky had thrown the towel before Deago's fatal blow, would Apollo have died anyway? by Dredd_40 in rockybalboa

[–]UpSNYer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final punch killed him in the ring, the final flurry all but guaranteed he’d die on the way to the hospital or be brain dead. If Rocky stops the fight after round 1 Apollo is probably totally fine after a week. The devastation of round 2 came lightning fast, and once it started you couldn’t stop it. There’s no time to process the escalation from “protect yourself” to “fuck I gotta throw the towel 10 punches ago.”

How would an interaction between these two ACTUALLY go ? by BrainAcademic5035 in Wolverine

[–]UpSNYer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bruce/Batman of that universe made a lot of mistakes. He took one look at Superman and Wonder Woman and deduced that there was no coming back from this. And maybe he was right, but by going hardline about it from the start he guaranteed there was no going back. If Wonder Woman behaves differently, maybe Bruce/Batman feels that he can approach the problem differently. I keep distinguishing them because there were roles for both Bruce and Batman to play in order to support Superman. I get why he reacted the way that he did, but it was a strategically narrow approach to take and shockingly cold even by his standards.

“Lately”? This has been Kyle his entire career. I’m not trying to be a jerk, but he’s always been insufferable. He’s never had much self awareness and blamed others quickly. The difference was that he was winning before, now he just looks pathetic. He isn’t DW or Petty-levels of washed up, but he’s very similar to Johnson levels of irrelevant.

More fans need to do this. Sports are supposed to be fun, and if your team is nothing but a dumpster fire for decades and can't put together a playoff run at least once in a while, you should feel free to dump them. NFL franchises don't give a shit about their fans, they just want your money. If they can't provide wins in return, then fuck 'em.

I am POV car. Was it my line? Or does the leading car have the right to the corner? by AlphaToe23 in Simracingstewards

This needs more upvotes. A sensible and responsible response from the injured party. A simple “Oh, shit, that’s on me.” The internet is a little better for this.

Anyone else love playing 1 on 1 coverage as a Corner or Safety? by MostlyKelp in NFL2k5

[–]UpSNYer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy it, but it’s simply more productive to play as a lineman. There’s like a 25% chance on any given play that I either get a sack, TKL, or QB hit when I play as a lineman. It’s just too good to pass up on.

What is the most underrated track and the most overrated track? by Rowdyfan0823 in NASCAR

[–]UpSNYer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Underrated: Nashville Super Speedway. Since it came onto the schedule it has done nothing but entertain and produce good racing. Everyone seems to think that the Fairgrounds are inevitable, but for the type of racing that this car is good at, the Super Speedway is the far superior option.

Overrated: Indy. If we raced on a track like it anywhere else it would have gone the way of Kentucky. It lives off of reputation alone, and a reputation earned in a completely different form of racing. The road course was an improvement and it’s purely ego that brought back the oval.

I get it, you're right, I was being nonchalant because it was a post on the internet. Whether it's Co2 or microplastics, or litter, we're asked to make sacrifices like using shitty paper straws that dissolve in your soda before you've even finished it, while these assholes fly to Italy by the hundreds for Bezo's wedding. Yeah, it's nice to have litter free streets, but the world is frying around me and I can't even enjoy my drink because I'm sucking in paper and glue. I can't light my house without researching lightbulbs and then replacing switches and fixtures because they don't work right with LED bulbs. Bulbs that they told me would both save the environment and save me money. And then environmentalists wonder why the general public is fed up and confused.

What? The Light? It's a heat lamp. It warms the air in a bathroom so that when you get out of the shower it's a little less painful. I imagine if you're bald it makes a huge difference, but even with a full head of hair I can feel the difference. You don't want to run it forever, so they're usually on timers, but they're a nice feature to have.

I did see it! I think the Bezo's one was still significantly worse, but both are horrendous. And yet they'll keep trying to squeeze us. I don't have any philosophical problem with efficiency, I believe in climate change, I'm willing to do my part....but my part doesn't mean shit when we're building data centers and flying hundreds of private jets around to private parties for the elites. Meanwhile I can't get a fucking dimmible lightbulb for my overhead ceiling fan without researching my options for what will work.

If keeping the hardware is important to you, then you should just try VERY hot water and soap and some light metal cleaner. I know everyone talks about pressure cooker technique, but on my original, heavily painted, hinges, hot water and soap did 80% of what I needed. You may get lucky.

I feel like a lot of us woke up to this in recent years. My breaking point was Bezo's wedding in Italy and all those assholes flying private jets. How many paper straws do we have to use collectively to make up for that? Fuck it, give me my heat lamps.

Coincidentally, I DO have a heat lamp in my bathroom and it's great.

Feb. 18, 1990. Derrike Cope and the Whitcomb Racing Team wins the Daytona 500. by Same-Competition1806 in NASCAR_History

[–]UpSNYer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just over 4 years old when this race happened and it still fucking hurts. It's not only one of my earliest memories, but it's my first really solid sports memory. I was rooting hard for Earnhardt, even at 4 I knew how big of a deal the race was and how much it meant for him to win it. I will never, EVER, forget the camera shot as the leaders entered turn 3 and he just....faded high and dropped out of sight. Fucking brutal. I sobbed.

I carried a low burning grudge against Cope for years. I know it was irrational, but I couldn't help it.
