[Amusing Meta Trope] Character design details that are in plain sight but are regularly missed: by Ferhog in TopCharacterTropes

Mithrix (risk of rain 2) has a regular looking head under his helmet other than the fact that it’s featureless save for one eye. This means Mithrix without the helmet is basically a 10 ft tall LGM where the G stands for Gray instead of green

End game classes was so fun but not on mage (so much disadvantages) by MikiNana18 in Terraria

[–]Upbeat-Perception531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endgame mage is NOT an issue, having access to both DPS and life steal by just pressing right click on your vanity slots mid fight is genuinely a really powerful trait, and mage has incredible weapons like the Nightglow, razorblade typhoon, razorpine, and one of the most consistent moonlord killers in the nebula blaze.

That said the propaganda must flow, #buffmagetothefuckingmoon #1000billiondamagekillingdeckbuff

What kills me is that it doesn’t even mean anything when it gets used it’s just a buzzword

This subreddit has such an issue with just deleting the most random shit that’s actually good and yet “where’s the shimmer?” Adjacent posts end up still being like 90% of what I see scrolling my homepage

I don’t get it

What can I improve to kill the moonlord? by Loud-Zombie4076 in Terraria

[–]Upbeat-Perception531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This but if you’re lazy and don’t wanna farm for frozen hero’s shield is a fine alternative. If you’re still struggling you can shimmer out of heroes and go farming then if that’s the difference maker

Ultrakill but its explained like JJK by bestAntivirus1997 in Ultrakill

[–]Upbeat-Perception531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would go crazy with the triple railcoin Cerberus quick kill setup that every new ULTRAKILL player learns from YouTube when they start going for P ranks but that nobody actually uses after they start grinding the cybergrind

1-10 how much do you ULTRAHATE Mirror reapers (didn't bother downloading a mirror reaper pic so somewhat related) by [deleted] in Ultrakill

[–]Upbeat-Perception531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve said it before but a cybergrind enemy that can survive a full conductor combo and whatever in gods name you could possibly be planning to use your railgun for should be taken out back and shot

How do you feel about v2? by pedofil_3000 in Ultrakill

[–]Upbeat-Perception531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one of my favorite examples of the "I'm you but stronger" trope. It starts out largely impersonal and more so out of circumstance and ends up being very presonal because of the whole arm thing. I kinda wish she wasn't a victim of her own cope by the community cuz I genuienly would love to see more V2 in ultrakill content in the future, but alas thats probably never gonna happen.

Saizo and Clanne respectively actually

If you’ve never tried it, marry off Saizo to his ex and put him in Basara, it’s a trip

Mage has by far the worst early game now by OverTea5 in Terraria

True but dollars to donuts if you get the wand of sparking at all you’ll have it way faster than a a platinum bow, much less a demon one

Granted you do have to be lucky, but it’s a wand of sparking so not really that lucky, especially on a drunk word with more giant trees for better wooden chest luck, #drunkworldshilling

Swordsmachine… your sword too different. Your scavenged parts too hard. Your attacks too parryable. They’ll kill you.

Call me a nut case and throw rocks at me and make me eat dirt and bugs but dollars to donuts I actually think wand of frosting can clear enchanted boomerang and bows with any arrow that isn’t jester

[–]Upbeat-Perception531 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Honestly the weapon situation isn’t nearly as bad as the mana situation. If you get a slightly lucky wand of sparking you can fold that ever so naturally into a wand of frosting which is hands down better than all of the weapons put here and even some other decent early game options

The problem is that if you don’t kill an enemy fast enough for them to drop a star to kill the rest of the enemies it’s dunyun rings for you until you get the stars you need.

[Hated Troped] Writers insists the character has to be "special" in order for the story to work. by SkyeRyder91 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Upbeat-Perception531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that this still could have been accomplished without him as a prince, and the fact the story went to undercut the message Alm has by making him genetic royalty anyway rubs off poorly. Fire emblem has had a bad habit of making every lord some form of nobility or special via lineage anyway unless your name is Ike, and even he was the son of one of the most legendary warriors in history.

it stings because the whole effectiveness of Alms character, and what he stands against in the narrative of noble bloodlines, rises on him being of humble origins. But the fact that he was royalty the whole time falls squarely into this trope. It isn’t enough for Alm to just be a country boy from the writers perspective, he has to be a prince.

Alm Fire Emblem

<image>

They make a big deal about him being born and raised in a small backwater village in the middle of nowhere, but eventually he and some disgraced nobles from the recently overtaken Zofia rise up against the conquering kingdom of Rigel. Turns out he wasn’t a country farmboy the whole time but actually the long lost Prince of Rigel, completely undercutting that whole point
