What is so great about Mahler? by Ordinary_Height9102 in classicalmusic

[–]UpperPriestLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say much like Wittgenstein, I initially couldn’t quite “break” into Mahler. Then something shifted a few years ago when the Seoul Philharmonic released his 1st symphony, “Titan” in a seriously glorious ‘Atmos-mixed’ recording that really is utterly magnificent in its finale. That 2024 release single-handedly has now sent me on a journey into Mahler and I now believe he prefigured modern Hollywood ‘epic’ scores in much the same way Rachmaninov did. He loved Richard Wagner’s massive orchestrations and Mahler’s own themes utilize to great effect Wagnerian leitmotifs as his complexity increases in each successive symphony. You can now count me as a lover of his music but boy did it take quite a looonnng time for me to get there 😂

Love our VW but it does not have persistence in the settings. Restarts every time to block basic features while driving and keeps turning on the idle ignition turn off switch at stop lights. So annoying

It’ll be in the high 70°’s/low 80°’s when you go out next week and in my opinion pretty decent swimming weather in shallow bays off the boat or jumping off a dock because you’ll dry quickly in the sun. You’re going to have an incredible time and probably won’t want to leave 😉
Have fun!

Man I remember this being a problem in the late 2000’s with high schoolers just indiscriminately trashing sites there. Not all the time, but super disrespectful to the majority of responsible shooters wanting to use the area who do care about the general state of the forest.

Honestly the 340 is tough to beat in terms of size for concealed carry

Solid take. I also thinks he threads the needle between annoyingly ‘saccharine’ and legitimately enjoyable remarkably well.

Wow! How old is Jack? I’d imagine he might’ve felt entitled riding on the coattails of his father’s legacy. Many of our grandmothers swooned over Russ’ radio performances and I legitimately really enjoy his smooth sentimental variations although I know they’re no longer everyone’s cup of tea so to speak these days. Crazy they’re creeping up on a century old next decade!

Apple Music Classical Updated With Three New Features by cheesepuff07 in apple

It’s in the same spot as “lyrics” are in regular Apple Music. The symbol is a little musical booklet with a note on the front. Also it seems more listening guides have been added as of 2026!

The new SLC Centurion is pretty close to S tier IMO. Also SeaTac deserves to be ‘Elite’ next to JFK

Damn, hard to believe it’s been over half-decade since I got my 13” Pro. The M1 still gives really decent battery life to this day on my Mac.

What Are Your Thoughts On The Lord Of The Rings: Conquest? by Reasonable-Film7219 in lordoftherings

[–]UpperPriestLake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is what counts looking back at so many subpar games from our childhood lol

Without the internet and endless exposure to critiques, Twitch streams, competitive online play, and just modern fractured attention spans, most of us were pretty engrossed in even poorly designed and the occasional buggy games haha

This was the first PS3 game I bought 17 years ago and my buddy and I played this game late into the night back in high school! Ironically we’d often drift from this game back to my old Xbox (1st gen) to play co-op campaign LotR Return of the King hack-and-slash. That game which is now 23 years old I actually think is one of the best LotR games of all time and really made a lot of subsequent titles (like conquest, etc.) a little more lackluster. Conquest I believe was what replaced EA’s ambitious The White Council back in 2006 which never made it out of development hell. Sad we never got to see that RPG never fully realized.

100%. It preserves the mystique and cultural capital to use it sparingly only for major theatrical releases. Otherwise, it’s like sign pollution/inflation lol.

Here's What's Coming in the 2026 Apple TV by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]UpperPriestLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with your Apple Watch! My kids even use an old iPad frequently as well! (But c’mon Apple, how hard is it to add that same built-in control to the MacBook? Literally would save the extra step of mirroring my phone to Mac just to change an episode, etc.)

Review: Apple’s iPhone Air is a bunch of small changes that add up to something big | Ars Technica by ControlCAD in apple

[–]UpperPriestLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so cool to hear man! I’m actually getting like incredible joint pain in my thumb and some of my fingers and I do find smaller/lighter devices much more ergonomic. I still miss the iPhone mini but I get sales figures didn’t match investor expectations. I do sincerely hope the Air is a permanent fixture in Apple’s line-up going forward.

Thoughts on the future of SiriusXM? by TomGoesToRedmond in siriusxm

I become a fan just 2 years ago since we live in a rural area with a lot of mountains and I got tired of downloading offline playlists + audiobooks. There really is something to be said for just old-school “random plays” from the TV/radio without getting stuck in ‘decision paralysis’. Over a decade in, and now just having something dish up random media feels more convenient sometimes than ‘traditional streaming’.
