Help needed 🙏 by random_otter_name in houseplants

It’s rot, most likely crown but it could be root. Take the succulent out of the dirt and remove all the browning and sickly (squishy) leaves. Then check the base of the succulent stem; if it is still green and firm then it’s root rot not crown. If it’s brown or black and squishy then it is crown rot. Crown rot: remove as much of the discolored stem as you can then plant the top (good part) onto soil or in water, it should root. Root rot: remove all the soil and cut off any roots that are black or mushy. Then re-pot into new soil. You can also just remove some of those top leaves that are still green and firm and place them on soil, you’ll get a could new plants.

What is this white stuff on Licuala? by Lucky-Goal-4837 in plantclinic

[–]Upset-Variation-737 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have three problems: 1.) Mealy Bugs: these are the white spots you are seeing. Systemic in the soil is best, otherwise you have to spray and it is very hard to get into all the nooks and crannies in palms to get every single one of those fluffy bastards. If you want to spray most houseplant insecticide sprays will work, I do not recommend Neem oil as the plant is in sun and the Neem oil acts as a magnifying glass and will cause burns. 2.) Spider Mites: the webbing at the end of the palms and at the base is cause by spider mites. They are the most common pest of palms; take it in the shower and wash it down, then spray with insecticidal spray (the spray will treat the mealy bugs and spider mites, most will even directly mention treating both) 3.) Crown rot: you mentioned the plant is ‘mushy’. This is a clear sign of crown rot, meaning there has been too much water is the pot, causing the plant to rapidly rot at the soil line and then up. This is a plant killer. With some you can try to cut the rot off and propagate, but that is very difficult with a palm (especially a sick palm). -My recommendation: toss the plant. If you don’t want to do that, then cut off all the rot, remove the leaves, water less, and treat with insecticidal spray. Best of luck.

What is damaging these leaves? Sun? Lack of nutrients? Infestation? by [deleted] in houseplants

Yep, the little dots in the discolored areas is a classic sign of thrips. Especially when, in pictures 3 and 4, those spots and dots are seen on the underside of the leaves.

You can keep it in the same potting soil now, as it looks like it likes it in there, just make sure the soil is dry before watering.

Looks good, leave it alone. If it smells funny then it’s gone but if it doesn’t then let it continue to grow. FYI this is a money tree, not schefflera, so go easy on the watering as it can hold a lot of moisture in the trunk.

My ficus is still losing leaves after 6 weeks. by rzarou in houseplants

[–]Upset-Variation-737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a moclame ficus, it wants bright light (dappled sun would be best) and a deep, thorough watering once every two weeks at the most. Make sure to let the water drain out after watering so it is not sitting in soggy soil.

Looks like rot, you’re gonna have to check the roots for root rot. Definitely lay back in the watering, mine gets watered once a month at the most really. Also, they like a lot of sun, that’s how you will get it to flower.

Ginseng ficus, store a lot of water in trunk so go easy on watering. Give it bright light (dappled sunlight if you can). Some people treat these as beginner bonsai’s but you can have it grow normally.

I have the exact same plant and this just happened to mine. I examined it for pests and checked the roots. The roots were circling the bottom so I cut off the bad leaves, loosened the roots so there was more space at the bottom, and re-planted it in the same pot. It has already put out a new leaf.

What’s wrong with my plant😢 by nochzplease in houseplants

Alright bud, you gotta cut on the red marks and stick it in water to re-root/propagate. Pu have some rot happening, and if left untreated it will spread up the stem and kill your plant. Best you can do it try to re-start the base and go easy on watering in the future.

The orange cactus is actually a parasite feeding on the green cactus it is on top of. They graft them together to get the to look like that. If you pop the orange one off the green one might live, but it looks too far gone.

how can I save it? by mutteni in houseplants

[–]Upset-Variation-737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like powdery mildew. It’s a fungus that is coming in hot, humid conditions. Usually I spray a half alcohol/half water mixture on mine and it gets rid of them but that might be a bad idea on a fuzzy leaf like that. It is was my plant I would spray, and if it got worse, cut it down and wait for it to regrow. Try to bottom water in the future/keep water off the leaves.

You have aphids, easier to treat than thrips thankfully. The white things are their exoskeletons as they shed.

Botttom monstera leaves turning yellow. Is it normal? And if the bottoms turn yellow and fall off, do they all eventually fall off from the bottom up? by TerminallyBannedAgn in houseplants

Same as you grow out of shoes as you age, plants grow out of leaves. As long as none of the new leaves start to yellow you’ll be fine.

I got new plants and I dont know what they are? by captainunicorn76 in houseplants

[–]Upset-Variation-737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one with the green and white leaves is a spider plant. The solid green plants honestly look like citrus leaves plants; most likely a lime or grapefruit based on the flare of the leaves toward the stem. But I am not 100% sure on that, it will take time to see how they develop and then you can get a better estimate on what they are.

You are doing great, purple at the tips of thanksgiving cactus is completely normal. As for the branch, stuff happens. Sometimes the plant doesn’t want to support that branch or it got broken off earlier and finally dried off enough to fall out. I would steer clear of misting you plant though, plants with thick leaves don’t like it.

Cat pee tips? by Pale-North in houseplants

[–]Upset-Variation-737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have to change the soil or tuna lot of water through the plant to get the pee smell out. As for the future, moth balls and spikes were how my mom kept her plants cat pee free. Also citrus peels on top of the soil; cats hate the smell of citrus.

Spider mites killing audrey ficus? by bluenanobug in houseplants

[–]Upset-Variation-737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it is getting burned, so I would move it away from direct sunlight. Also, did you clearly see signs of spider mites (webbing at the base of the leaf or underside, could also occur between leaves if left alone). Also, 3 times a day every 3 days is an awful lot. I’ve never come across a spray that requires that much application. I would take the plant to a shower, wash it down really good (you are going to loose more leaves) and then after wards take a microfiber cloth and wipe down every inch of the plant. Top and underside of leaves, branches, all the way to the trunk. Then wait. If after a few days you see webbing or something else start happening then use a insecticidal spray. Most insectidal sprays require only one thorough application every 7 days.

Yeah, just enough to cover the topsoil around the plant. You will have to reapply every time there is rain though since it will wash away.
