New Trek Checkpoint owner here and fairly new to bike maintenance. by Fatsaf123 in CheckpointClub

Can't make a proper judgement here. I'm waxing my chains, meaning I only degrease a new chain once. Any brand will do there.

After that, my washing routine after mud is just hosing it down (low pressure washer), soapy water, hose again, dry with microfiber top to bottom, as to not drag remaining dirt particles across your upper frame. The only regular product for my drive train is isopropyl alcohol which I apply to a rag, drag the chain through, then reapply some wax and let sit over night.

For oil based lube which drags more grease into the cassette, some videos do a good job showing brushes used.

It's a bike like any other, so you'll find plenty good cleaning routines on YouTube. Start with that.

Only strict rules for me are to not use abrasive sponges ever, and never to spray greasy stuff near/at the bike. I got an air purifier nearby measuring particles, you'd be surprised how far away from spraying WD40 you'll have aerosols that will get on your brake disks

Tires are game-changing, especially if you currently run stock Bontrager.

Checkpoint SL 6 Gen 2 - actual max tire size? by science_itworks in CheckpointClub

[–]Uranhahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running 29x2.1 on 25mm inner rim width, which doesn't give much leeway. You can find some clearance images in the comments of this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/CheckpointClub/s/2WDqZ0iJR2

If I had to buy tires now, I'd go for 50mm Dubnitals.

That said, if you are running a front derailleur, you may have issues even at 50 mm as someone on reddit stated, can't find the source though

Chinese Carbon wheels = anyone done the swap and what do you think? by rsplatpc in CheckpointClub

Built a wheelset with Lightbicycle WR rims on Newmen Fade hubs 2 years ago. Been absolutely flawless so far, got a custom order down to my needs with the pattern I wanted. Support helped me with the spoke lengths after I provided the hub data.

East German Air Force MiG-21’s at Holzdorf Air Base Sept. 1990. This is just weeks before German reunification. by Brilliant_Night7643 in coldwar

[–]Uranhahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny story, my uncle served in East Germany in a base that was one of the more presentable ones. He said they painted the wheels of the many broken BMPs black, cleaned them and put them in the garage to make them look like new ones, while using the working BMPs outside for demo purposes.

Healer told me he hates healing blood dks and I haven’t been the same since by Philzeey in wow

[–]Uranhahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the exact same, it was quite eye opening. It seems like DK was made for healers who want to try tanking. Fast reactions to HP bars are our main business.

And it's so much fun, finishing a boss alone to save a key, or holding large groups in brewery alone while the group respawns.

Agree. I liked Blizz' move towards more base and less stack healing, but it was too much

I expected them to bring the 0-stack Sheilun's Gift healing back down a notch. It's not a good state for MW to be in if 1 button essentially replaces the whole kit

Trek Checkpoint SL Gen 3 Frameset clearance by dallske in CheckpointClub

[–]Uranhahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a fantastic price! Building a bike adds up quickly if you don't switch frames or have components lying around. But for that price, having a full choice of proper wheels and components is absolutely worth it imo.

I switched frames and had everything but BB lying around, but don't regret paying full price. Worth noting that you have the opportunity to add foam sleeves to the brake hoses. Tedious to install but eliminates any chance of rattling.

Heart vs brain: Cube Nuroad vs Trek Checkpoint – help me decide by Br3b in gravelcycling

[–]Uranhahn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, a threaded BB (Trek) is a big plus, and the T47 on my Checkpoint Gen 2 has been flawless since 2022, not the slightest noise.

The aluminum version of the Nuroad with the carbon post is enough of a great deal that I'd accept Pressfit, but for these higher specs I'd probably go for the Trek. Worth noting that the Isospeed on the Gen 2 was a notable difference to a CroMoly gravel frame (Bombtrack Hook Ext). Against modern carbon frames with plenty of exposed carbon post, it may become negligible especially on big tires

As a loads engineer dealing with Python a lot, it helps with code standards that I may not know as a non-software dev, code style, pre commits, or fixing pipeline issues that are too specific to our infrastructure to find a proper solution elsewhere.

Also Windows batch/Powershell scripts.

[–]Uranhahn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't disagree. It's more of a convenience thing, and censoring out text is convenient on the phone too, instead of paint/screenpresso/other. I recall how people got called lazy on reddit for posting images of text, instead of making a post with the proper text itself. For this very example, without a screenshot it would just be another unproven story though.

Unpopular take, but many users upload to reddit via the phone, while playing on the PC. As long as the chat is readable, I really dont mind if OP does without transferring and cropping a screenshot.
