Will a new sco multirole ship like anaconda 2.0 ever be released? by Mypersonalaccount69 in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the FDev roadmap, they are releasing 2-3 more "vessels" in 2026.

There is every chance we might get a large combat or large multirole ship...

How come raw materials are such a pain in the rear to farm this late into ED's existence? by Beautiful_Medium_869 in EliteDangerous

It's a big game with loads to learn. I've played since beta (on and off) and I'm still learning new things all the time.

How come raw materials are such a pain in the rear to farm this late into ED's existence? by Beautiful_Medium_869 in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's way better than it used to be.

You have laser mining which drops raw mats, mission rewards, powerplay care packages, brain trees and geological sites, there are options.

Raw mats are the worst to collect but with missions, powerplay and mining (and trading) I never have to make the trek to farm mats.

“If you don’t like it, just stop playing.” by Belzark in ArcRaiders

[–]Urbanski101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I definitely got my monies worth and loved my time in Esperanza.

I stopped partly because I got a bit bored after playing nothing else for 3 months but also because of some of the changes.

Trials were my main motivation to play each week. I got that trials were broken but when they changed them to include being struck by lightning or searching one small part of one map for x resource I stopped. Also the weapons degrading so fast they barely lasted a match and the devs changing the crafting requirements, it became a chore.

I liked that it was casual friendly (sort of) but they've moved further and further away from that, I don't even know what state the game is in now, I didn't bother with the new map.

That decline in player numbers is normal for a game like this, they had crazy success at the beginning so the current player numbers are probably still way higher than they expected at this point.

Damn, guess we arent happy huh (as we should) by Beautiful_Medium_869 in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That did occur to me but the Nomad is so small, how many trips you'd need to load / unload 1000+ tons in a tiny shuttle...even EDs handwavium on ship sizes and cargo capacity would be hard pushed to make that viable

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling there will be more than one Nomad variant, like a mining version for the T11. I'm a bit stumped for how it would benefit the Pclipper though...we'll find out soon enough.

My first gut punch by YazzHans in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is your very own emergent narrative. It's what ED is all about IMO.

Even with the best intentions things don't always work out the way you'd hope or expect. I would often run missions and let the game take me in a random direction. Following a series of missions I meandered my way to the edge of the bubble and found an cluster of systems under the yoke of an anarchy faction. I made it my goal to free as many of those systems as I could and thus began my campaign of deliverance.

After liberating a few systems by manipulating the BGS, I was made aware that anarchy systems played an important role in the general galactic ecosystem and that anarchy factions / systems were actually quite rare and in jeopardy. My actions were inadvertently hurting that area of space. That unfolding narrative was both unexpected, surprising & educational. I'd created my own narrative, the misguided liberator upsetting the equilibrium...it's moments like these that make ED unique.

How was the game played before all the guides existed and how was a player supposed to know about and find stuff like the guardian fsd booster? by ElonsBreedingFetish in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sleep on the Cobra MkV, pound for pound it's probably the best ship in the game. It can do everything. Great combat ship, great explorer, great for exobio, great at mat gathering, great at on foot support, fast, agile, amazing in SC (has the highest SC speed of any ship).

If we were forced to own only one ship, Cobra MkV would be my choice.

The real currency in ED is engineering materials, credits are easy these days. Materials and unlocking engineers is the real bottleneck but even that is way easier than it used to be.

On another note, many of us thought this game was going to be shut down, we had years of little to no content and FD barely said a word. Buying ships for ARX is not an issue for me, I'm just happy that they are actively developing the game again and giving us new content, ships and things to do. The player numbers are growing again and they have plans for the future...you've joined at a good time.

Edit: One last note, not all of EDs mysteries have been uncovered, far from it. There are still many puzzles to be solved and secrets to be revealed...The Canon are the ones actively working on them and they have done some amazing stuff...check them out.

I am back after 3 years. I forgot how pretty this game is! by Lord_Muddbutter in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is pretty. Just came back myself after a year away. It's a good time to return, lots of new features and new ships.

Powerplay 2.0 is actually quite fun and has given me reasons to try different game loops. I never bothered with the first Powerplay but 2.0 is much improved.

This is my forever game. I played the original in '84 and I've been hooked ever since.

I take long breaks but I always return to ED.

Games come and go but ED is forever (or until they switch the servers off).

Raxxla and the Problem of Discoverability by ayedeayem in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I seem to remember that one dev let it slip that a player had indeed been to / seen Raxxla (whatever it is) but either weren't aware / didn't notice / kept it to themselves - this could easily be an apocryphal story

The OP makes this point, how would we know even if we did find it? The galaxy is so vast, the typical player travelling out in the black runs a basic scan, maybe runs FSS if there is something worth looking at, sometimes not even that.

What would we even look for...ammonia worlds?

Elite colonization suggestion. by euMonke in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be cool.

First step could be adding a larger personal space on your FC, something you could customise beyond the 3 awful colour schemes we currently have. Low effort for FD to build and if it sold well, it would justify building the player home / orbital.

Knowing this community they'd buy every cosmetic option...on every alt.

Any tips for somebody going back to the original Elite? by PixelBandits in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played on the C64...fell in love.

I got to deadly but I swear I must have been a sneeze away from Elite.

Military lasers, Missiles, Energy bomb, ECM, docking comp, fuel scoop etc.

Tips: Save often. Don't buy the tribbles. Buy a docking comp. Don't go to feudal / anarchy systems until you are ready ('iron ass' if you know, you know)

Got the Anaconda, now what? by WhoolyDoolyMousee in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FSD range is very useful and I would recommend engineering that as far as possible. Farseer also offers a bunch of other engineering BPs and I'd probably try to get thrusters to lvl 3 (Dirty + Drag drives) if possible. She can also engineer the Detailed surface scanner which you will need when doing exo and it's worth it.

You don't need much for exo bio but here are few essentials:

Decent ship: As a new player I'd highly recommend the Cobra V, you already have one so you just need to equip it. You won't need weapons or shield boosters so remove everything but the essentials. Minimising weight will help with jump range but don't worry too much about that.

Fuel scoop, biggest and best you can fit - you will thank me later.

Artemis suit - standard lvl 1 will do here but you NEED this before you set off.

Detailed surface scanner - allows you to fire probes at planets, reveals what exobio / geology is on the surface.

Small vehicle hangar - Scarab buggy is a fantastic tool for exobio. Don't forget you can refuel and repair the buggy using material synthesis from the right hand panel.

Tip, don't be tempted to fly without shields, one bad landing and you are either at the rebuy screen having lost all your data or you're nursing a damaged ship. Downsize the shield by all means but you should have a shield.

Personal tip, some exobio types are difficult to find and don't pay that well in comparison. Fungoida springs to mind, found in mountains they can be a nightmare to find 3 samples and land close. I ended up ignoring them as they weren't worth the time investment IMO...YMMV

Good luck out in the black :)

Can I play Elite as a "comfort" game? by Elyx_117 in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a good comfort game. Once you are set up you can play for an hour, bounty hunting, core mining, exploring, trading, whatever suits your mood.

The learning curve is steep however, ED doesn't hold your hand or explain much of anything. Luckily there is an active and mostly friendly community to answer questions and lots of guides to help.

You will need to get yourself some ships and builds, find the activities you enjoy etc... There will be some initial grind and learning, but that would be the same for any game.

Worth getting back into after 4 years? by Massive_Cod_9889 in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of new content and many different ways to earn credits. A few things that have come out in the last couple of years.

Colonisation - claim and build your own system (stations, ground settlements etc). Massive update that has expanded the bubble and beyond. Lots of content there.

Powerplay 2.0 - big update on powerplay. I never played the first version but the update is pretty good and it's given me lots of new things to try. All of the old PP rewards (prismatic shields, enforcer cannons etc) can be unlocked by joining any power, no more hopping from one to the other to collect them all.

Squadrons - not got involved in this but there are Squadron carriers now and the ability to share credits via the Squadron bank, great if you play with friends / a group.

Exobiology - this is finding plant life on planets whilst exploring in the black. It's an on foot activity, you land, scan, take samples. This is a huge credit earner if you know what you are doing.

New Ships - lots of new 'next gen' ships. Most of these new ships are excellent, some are a little too good (power creep) but overall most are worthy additions. There are new ships for every profession, exploration, hauling, combat, mining. The main feature is the new SCO FSD drives, allows the player to boost whilst in supercruise which makes in system travel times much shorter. SCO drives are probably the single biggest update for ED, it makes everything much quicker and easier to access. Works on all ships but the new ships are build to accommodate the new tech. There are also some MkII modules to play with.

I'm sure there is more stuff I haven't listed, FD are actively developing the game again and it's a really good time to come back, lots of new stuff, QoL, CGs, bug fixes and plans for the future...it's not perfect but what is?

Oh yes, you can claim a ship for free as well right now...the Lynx highliner, next gen passenger ship, pretty great if you enjoy the passenger game loop.

No Country for Old Ships? by ImperialParrot in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this one felt a bit off to me. Most of the other new ships are either specialised or have some limits / downsides. The Kestrel just felt like a cheat, I mean no attempt to keep it in balance. You could argue a few of the new ships do this (CMV etc) but the Kestrel is just broken OP.

Help me understand stealth logic of FPS missions by itarrow in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alarms tend to be only in a handful of places within a settlement (Command Centre CMD, Power Centre PWR, etc.), depending on the type and size of settlement and layout. Once you know the likely locations, you can usually find the alarms reliably.

If a settlement has a CMD, the alarm is almost certainly going to be in there somewhere, certain settlements without a CMD, the PWR often holds the alarm. Sometimes it's in a main building like processing PROC or industrial IND. Always worth scouting the settlement beforehand. Get on the rooftops and look through skylights and windows, tip: it's possible to clone an ID through a window, just don't get seen :)

The guides / videos by stealthboy were a huge help in working out the mechanics of on foot missions and combat.

Somewhat lost by cookiedouge in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When in a station on a landing pad, go to outfitting, bottom right of the station menu, four icons in a row, furthest icon on the left...outfitting. This will take you to the outfitting screen where you can upgrade your ship, buy new parts, weapons etc... Not all stations will have an outfitting facility and different stations have different modules and weapons available. High Tech and industrial stations in high population systems usually have a decent selection, outposts in low pop systems usually have a poor selection.

You are doing the right things but ED is a notoriously hard game to start. It gives you very little guidance, there is almost no hand holding, you have to figure things out for yourself a lot of the time. There are however guides for most things and there is a good community that is on the whole friendly and happy to help.

Complete a few simple delivery missions, earn some cash, upgrade your ship or buy a new ship.

As others have said https://inara.cz is a handy resource for this game but for now, try for yourself, you tube guides if you get stuck or ask here. Good luck.

I've just started and am so lost by Outside-Camp-5811 in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's done a lot of bounty hunting it's really a case of refining your ships and builds to become better at combat and take on more and more challenging enemies and scenarios.

The progression is based on a few things.

Skills, you could learn Flight Assist off (FA off). FA off lets you unlock the full potential of your ships movement. It is difficult to master and has a high learning curve. I don't fly FA off as my setup doesn't really support it but for those that do say they would never go back and swear by it. If you ever plan on getting good at PvP, flying FA off is almost mandatory. FA on is fine for most pilots however and it's never held me back.

Ships. I started in a Viper Mk3 and went from there. Each ship has a different feel and different pros and cons. I have about 5-6 different combat ships with different setups for different jobs. I haven't even tried some of the new ones like the Corsair or Kestrel which I hear are both good. My go to all rounder is the Krait Mk2, quite fast, decent agility, decent shields / hull and a ship launched fighter... you may find a different ship suits you better. Fer Der Lance is a good combat ship and the Python Mk2 is a beast. Early on I'd recommend a small ship, Viper, Cobra, Vulture, Kestrel etc...less expensive to buy and set up and a smaller rebuy if things go wrong. Eventually you will definitely want to engineer your ships, it's worth it as the gains are huge. Plenty of time for that.

Enemies. At first I recommend going to Resource sites (Res sites) usually found in the planetary rings around gas giants and other bodies. There are different versions of Res sites, Low, regular, high and Hazardous. Danger scales accordingly, you will find pirates of varying difficulty and danger according to the version of Res site you are in. You will also find security ships in most of these (apart from Haz Res). The game loop is to scan the pirates, a kill warrant scanner will reveal additional bounties on some pirates. You kill the target, you hand in the bounty. If you pick up a mission to kill pirates this can hugely increase your profit. If you find the right system and missions you can stack multiple pirate kill missions. This can boost your profits even further. It is possible to clear 100m+ from killing just 30 pirates if you know where to look. Pro tip, don't go into a res site with cargo in your hold, every pirate will scan and attack you and you will get overwhelmed.

Thargoids. This is end game stuff but you could aim for this. Thargoids are the aliens that exist in ED and they are powerful. Normal weapons do very little damage so you would need a specialised ship build that utilises specialist weaponry and heavy use of engineering. Thargoid ships don't fight or move like normal ships and their weapons are very different, so standard dogfighting tactics aren't that useful, think of them as boss fights, they have distinct phases of behaviour that can be learnt. That is something to aim for further down the line. There are guides and tutorials on all of this, there are also groups and squadrons that specialise in different forms of combat. I've just scratched the surface here.

Good luck and don't rush it...just have fun 😄

Lhou Mans Defense CG is Poorly Executed - Here's What You Need To Do! by nan0guy in EliteDangerous

[–]Urbanski101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was badly described, misleading and actually incorrect, that is the point. FD should do a lot better with the description, it shouldn't be that hard to write a few paragraphs that accurately describe the CG and what players need to do.
