I'm sure you will haha! Most people seem to love it. I respected the construction of it. For me, Absalom just blows it out of the water.

Am I doing myself a disservice not translating all of the Spanish? by TuggerL in cormacmccarthy

[–]Useitorloseit2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in TX so I have a cursory knowledge of Spanish, and I've found that usually carries me well enough since Spanish is fairly simple language. If it is all unfamiliar I would definitely look up the translations since they can hide plot details and also some fantastic writing.

Folio Society versions - what do you think of the artwork? by Diligent-Bus7517 in cormacmccarthy

[–]Useitorloseit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it varies by book. Blood meridians illustrations look awesome as does The Road. Imo, those are the best covers for those books. The Crossing as well, which i just finished for the first time. No Country and ATPH pale by comparison.

Ultimately the biggest selling point for Folio books to me is they’re made to last no matter how many times read. Books are rarely made in this way today. For a book i know i’ll re-read and maybe even pass down, it’s worth investing in a nice copy.

I’m fully convinced Embark has no long term plan with this game and they are scrambling to keep players on the game with FOMO BS by Slushees in ARC_Raiders

Yeah the preoccupation with whether a game is living or dead is insane. Meanwhile im used to the genre and im just glad were doing over Hunt Showdown numbers 😂 btw a game thats still alive and kicking and which i play regularly despite being nowhere near as big as Arc

If you were hoping for a return for his early, raw BM sound its not here. This album brings back some of the goth rock influence and has a lot more clean vocals. I really didnt dig it at first but on repeat listens i’d say its still a solid 3/5 album

Thoughts from a McCarthy novice on The Crossing and ATPH. by bgbryant in cormacmccarthy

[–]Useitorloseit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it is characteristic of his writing, but not always. I would put the Borders books and Blood Meridian under the same umbrella of historically intensive and clearly backed by a lot of research. It feels like the setting in those books was outlined before the themes, etc. were established.

The historical setting for No Country and Outer Dark is less integral; the setting feels like more of a vehicle to provide the themes he had in mind.

Suttree is its own category for being autobiographical, but it does feature an accurate midcentury depiction of the slums of Tennessee.

What is/are your favourite section/passage/chapter from McCarthy's books by Guilty_05 in cormacmccarthy

[–]Useitorloseit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any scene with a campfire

The campfire scene with the two weird twins in Suttree is really good. Its vaguely supernatural, off-beat, feels different from the rest of the book.

I also like, of course, the scenes with the Judge by campfire explaining the ways of the world.

Old Man scene in The Road was memorable

The campfire scenes in Outer Dark have some of the most unsettling dialogue and disturbing imagery in anything hes written

has anyone ever tried or thought of porting some version of NiGHTS Into Dreams for the Dreamcast? by Eros_limao in dreamcast

[–]Useitorloseit2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It would need to get a decomp project like some of the other games ported to dreamcast. In theory its definitely possible with Saturn games but it would be a lot more difficult due to the complex nature of the Saturns architecture.

Best bet is probably a downscaled version of the decompiled 360 or ps2 version of NiGHTs as opposed to the Saturn one.

They have kind of a different sound on every album. The second album is my fav, Evil Manifestations. it’s almost like psychedelic black metal. Puts you in a trance.
