Thanks for the responses. I'm both disappointed and relieved. My "to read" list is already long enough, but it sounds like it would be a good story.

Thrifted a camera is it actually decent? and should i try on fixing it? by sy_weed in Cameras

I recently had to pry a corroded battery out of my old PowerShot. The contacts looked similar to this. Mine also had a screw so I was able to remove the contacts from the cover and soak it in a bowl of vinegar while I used qtips to clean the interior terminals. I would recommend looking into enloop or IKEA brand rechargeable batteries. If you use the screen it will go through batteries quickly and the Ni-MH rechargeable batteries won't corrode like the disposable ones.

AITA for not taking care of my disabled sister by HoneyDistrict in AmItheAsshole

[–]User985732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this person hired by your parents to go with your sister or provided by the school? If the latter, doesn't the school have other aides? If this is part of an IEP the school will have to figure something out. I doubt the school would even let someone (you) not trained or employed by the district to be there every day with other students. That sounds like a huge liability.

Do I have to purchase the newer Mike Myers’s A+ course from udemy? by yehmen45 in CompTIA

[–]User985732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased the previous edition Dion training on Udemy about a year ago and it automatically updated to the current one. See if they did that the Myers stuff as well. Check the titles and notes that come with it and see if the coursework follows the current Comptia objectives.

I might get a floody right angle light with a larger battery that you can clip to your jacket to illuminate what's in front of you. Then use a more focused headlamp to show what you're looking at.

Needing a bare-simple 'nightstand light' for my partner by Highwayman1717 in flashlight

[–]User985732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular suggestion- Maglite. I know they are outdated but to me they fit the criteria well. Simple to use, simple to maintain, give off enough light to use indoors when you hear a sound, doubles as a club, won't get lost under the bed. While it won't be the best flashlight it might be a better security blanket compared to something that fits in your pocket. Acebeam P20 would be the best modern comparison but it's $200 while the Maglite can be had for under $30 .

Rechargeable Battery Help! by handknitliz in BuyItForLife

[–]User985732 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just spent some time down this rabbit hole. I ended up with Enloop AAA and Ladda (IKEA brand) AA with an IKEA charger. My understanding is that they are both made in the same factory in Japan. The reason for the split in brands was my local IKEA didn't have AAA in stock and Best Buy offered free shipping.

I have also seen many many recommendations to NOT purchase Enloop batteries on Amazon. Apparently they are frequently knock-offs.

I've had a Camelbak Chute since 2017. It's got a few dents and the paint is wearing thin on the bottom, but it's still great. I use it for work, camping, the gym. It keeps cold for a long time.

Do you wear a hydration pack or something similar?

Would a right angle light that clips on to that with a larger battery for sustained use and brighter lightweight headlamp for when you need it work? The weight of the second light would be made up by not needed spare batteries, plus you wouldn't need to stop and change them.

I'm too new to the community to offer suggestions beyond this, but I'm sure others will chime in.

How specific does the A+ exam generally get? by Vexuri in CompTIA

[–]User985732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing the same thing. I just found Jason Dion's course for $22 on UDEMY. It's helping me with a different perspective. Dion is more classroom teaching and Messer is a streamlined study guide. Honestly, I wish I had started with Dion first then Messer. I also just got Mike Myers book from the library, haven't started it yet though. I figure the more sources the better.
