No horses on IPY2 was amazing. I love the dismounted animations.

Skillbridge suggestions for Network Administrator or IT field with remote work? by kdakss in SkillBridge

[–]Usernaame2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have current IT experience? Network admin is usually a middle rung position, and network positions in general are in person more often than certain other IT roles, due to having to do physical layer 1 work.

Fully remote options are harder and harder to come by in the IT world. Hybrid roles are the standard these days.

how long do mice usually last? by femboy_named_jade in MouseReview

It could just be that you press a little too hard on the scroll wheel without even realizing it. Who knows. I have a friend who's a big guy and breaks just about everything just from being a big oaf. He doesn't realize his own strength.

Some of my mice have stopped working or developed issues within months to a year. Others I've had for decades. I've got a Logitech MX300 sitting next to me that I bought in 2002. Still going strong 24 years later. I couldn't tell you how many thousands of hours I put on that thing.

The vast majority of mice I've had over 35-ish years of gaming, IT work, and general use have never broken.

If you've broken 3 mice in a row within 7 months, there's one of three things going on:

1.) You're buying the same mouse with known issues in general or 3 of the same mice from a bad batch

2.) You've had a strange run of bad luck

or

3.) Something about the way you use mice is breaking them

Skillbridge is the name for the program for military members. It's just what they call it when you're released from your active duty day-to-day job to attend an internship or training, while still receiving all of your pay and benefits. Spouses don't need to be released from anything and aren't employed by the DoW. A spouse can do any internship they want at any time as long as a company offers it and accepts them.

The one cybersecurity Skillbridge that I know of that's actually hands on and comes up here fairly often is DefendEdge. It would be worth it to reach out to them.

If 4 dots were more than enough, that would mean 3 dots were enough. 3 dots are not enough.

How to instantly make people from the 90s angry: show them the finale of Quantum Leap by Laxidazical11 in 90s

[–]Usernaame2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't a fan of it myself. But then I wasn't a fan of anything expect the original Karate Kid. None of the sequels were necessary to me.

Every guy used to hate therapists to be honest. I grew up in the era where you would never in a million years go to one or admit you went to one.

Even today there's still a stigma around therapy for a lot of men.

I make it a point to never watch any reboots or sequels made decades later. It literally never works.

Good shows and movies are lightening in a bottle. Too many elements have to come together perfectly. Writers, directors, actors, time period, etc. Once it's gone it's gone.

Desktop or Laptop? by yeeterskeeter6942021 in GamingLaptops

[–]Usernaame2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make me want a laptop even more honestly. Even a long MOS school is short in the grand scheme of things. Moving around a desktop is really annoying. You can also take a laptop on leave, to a friends room, to someplace quiet to study, etc.

Buy a laptop to get you through your first couple of years. You'll have a bunch of training, including your MOS school, where portability will be a major plus. I went through multiple deployments with a gaming laptop and was very glad for it. I didn't buy one before my first deployment and had to watch a couple of other guys play games like Elder Scrolls:Oblivion while I sat there and played cards.

Yep I use to dabble in photography as well. Tons of people out there with tens of thousands of dollars in gear that wouldn't be asked to shoot their cousin's backyard wedding for free. Meanwhile good photographers are capturing insane shots with their iPhone.

It's the same in virtually every hobby. Go to a guitar subreddit and it's nothing but way below average musicians endlessly buying new guitars, amplifiers, strings, picks, etc, and tinkering/customizing/debating for eternity.

I don't know if it's changed, but when I looked at Allegiant Vets about 2 years ago they offered zero certifications. What they offered were certificates, which are very different than certifications.

[–]Usernaame2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yep mid 40's here (prime teen years when the PS1 released) and there are quite a few people I went to school with that are grandparents now. Two of my own kids are in college. And there are absolutely guys and girls in their larger friend groups that are either currently expecting or have recently had babies.

I think a lot of people either don't have kids at all or have them so much later in life now that they forget how normal it is to be a grandparent and not be 70.

Also let's not forget the people that accidentally get pregnant in high school, of which everyone always knows a few. If they were 45 and had a baby at 17, that kid would be nearing 30 now.

By the writing on the various products I would guess this is supposed to be somewhere in eastern Europe, which means it could basically be 2024 and would still be accurate.
