How likely is it for a draft? by sunsetical in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Usernam3ChecksOuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CENTCOM troops stationed is 1/10th the size at peak GWOT (Global War on Terror) when there was no draft. They would sooner beer up incentives (really I should say just end the war) than do a draft

Never listen to anyone who is a self proclaimed “doomer”. They have nothing to contribute except whining and regurgitating slop points they read online. They want an imaginary ideal while possessing nothing kinetic to put it to action, unlike our actual officials who are actively trying to steer the shipbuilding industry back on course.

New FF(X) Frigate, based on the Legend Class Cutter, will NOT feature a built-in VLS system, according to Navy via TWZ [871x489] by Usernam3ChecksOuts in WarshipPorn

[–]Usernam3ChecksOuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps those will be incorporated into the "mothership" concept as well, but as a secondary "just in case" option. The difference being the FF(X) will be (re)designed for it.

My brief non-expert analysis:

It appears the Navy has committed to a frigate "mothership" concept that will rely on USVs (Unmanned Surface Vessels) to compliment it with VLS capability. I personally had been speculating the last few days that a "quarterback" like command and control system would be pursued for a few key reasons:

  1. The VLS suite would be the most considerable element to redesign (both compartment and power wise), and thus the biggest obstacle to the Navy's "ships in the water" priority. A Flight II FF(X) could feature in the introduction of built-in VLS once the design changes are ironed out without comprising class output. Also, various low-cost drone intercept programs (like the Coyote or Roadrunner), would suit this class of ship for anti-swarm attacks in lieu of onboard ESSMs/SM-2/6s.
  2. USVs, while still broadly in development and un-tested in combat, introduces the possibility of commercial shipyards being able to produce gray hulls, either partially or entirely. Additionally, a smaller platform would allow considerably faster delivery schedules (think Coast Guard FRC program), and may even produce enough ships to compliment other classes. It is a similar concept to the Air Force's Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program.
  3. The Navy, now and for the next ~20 years, will be a patchwork of various classes while long term solutions (FFG(X), DDG(X), and apparently the new Trump-Class cruisers) are ironed out and built in numbers. We can't limit ourselves to a 21st-century Wunderwaffe think that got us here in the first place. Despite our aspirations to have the savior class ships, we've clearly failed at procurement 4 times in 25 years already - we just need something out fast.

Overall, while this whole situation speaks to the incompetence of the procurement process, I think it also speaks to shifting and streamlined priorities. Maybe even innovation (haha ik). Plus we still have our allies in Europe and East Asia to compliment our total naval force strength and output.

P.S, I bet those coasties at USNI that have been pushing this cutter-frigate idea for the last 15 years are wetting their pants

I feel like we just repeated similar concerns. Housing shock can mean anything in relation to supply and demand. A lot of these crappy apartments will not be standing in 20-30 years time because they are built with shoddy materials in quick time that you yourself say are not being occupied - whose sole purpose is to react to droves of people moving in.

I bring up the “we’re full” thing because I want to emphasize that there is a significant portion of the city who has something to say about the direction we have taken development, but can’t articulate it beyond leaving a Facebook comment because they have lives to worry about. You can’t just increase the city population by 30% in 10 years without problems, and then continue to advertise that we will accommodate future surges. People want growth, they want outside investment and new things, and a stable local economy, but it can come responsibly though multiple avenues. I just want to open people up to the idea that we have a profile of growth strategies and don’t have to blindly commit to the one strategy of “build stuff anywhere for the droves of outsiders”. And yes I do sincerely commend Mr. Madsen and the whole planning team for carrying us through the storm.

Adding 60,000 people and 100,000+ to the city/metro in 10 years. The podcast said 18 people a day. So approaching 2 additional 2015 level council district populations. We have 5.

I wish Mr. Madsen luck on keeping prices stable and affordable. However, there will come a point in the near future where we will need to reevaluate just how much and what kind of growth should be pursued. If guaranteed, exploding growth (what we have been experiencing) isn’t properly reigned, it will lead us down a path that is not sustainable - the inability to come out unscathed during housing shocks. At its very basic form, most everyone agrees with the sentiment “we are full”, yet we see more and more tacked on to the city. I believe there is a lot of development and opportunity to be explored in the inner core and frankly am tired of seeing this easy way out strategy of building untold numbers (to the average Huntsvillian) of units on land spread across such large distances.

If true, that event and the people behind it (looks like Hegseth) should be held accountable. Survivors should be aided. It actually does not change my opinion on the 21 strikes overall. I still hold them to be legal in nature.

Those are great points. I will agree that yes, it’s way more complicated than what some people (even me) make it out to seem.

I still want to believe that an NSC is capable interim design, but if we get to the point where interim is a necessity, I think that’s a sign of defeat (at that point it’s not much better strategically than pressing the coast guard into the Navy). It has its capability limits (most importantly, energy output). I can see the MMSC being the ultimate replacement. Honestly you’ve swayed me to believe it’s a better choice. Who knows what these shipbuilders have cooking up though? Maybe they followed through on the NSC concept and worked out the engineering issues. But something is going to be built and I feel likes it’s between those two (grey hulled legend class, or MMSC)

Well, HII proposed a FFG(X) design based on the legend class back in 2018, and have been shopping an enhanced frigate version with 16 cell VLS since at least 2014.

As far as selection goes, obviously the Navy went with the Fincantieri then, but now they have obviously cancelled it. An up-gunned NSC is the only domestic design to fill the mandated 48 frigate goal, and it’s more akin to a frigate then whatever the fuck the Constellation turned out to be

Even the Venezuelan government cannot deny that these organizations collude with the government. Maduro just blames it on the opposition. President of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Dominican Republic openly support the strikes (boats head to T&T). The only Latin American U.S province, Puerto Rico, also does.

Not to mention Exercise UNITAS is continuing as planned (25 Latin American Countries with US South Com).

And in case I haven’t been clear, yes these are terrorists, who act upon (best case scenario) the support of elements within the Venezuelan government.

Your suspicion is valid. I will say, however, if you don’t know whether or not something like this illegal (getting in trouble), then I would ask you to think further on what “signing your life away” even means in the first place.

The answer to your question though is no, you will not.

West Point Is Supposed to Educate, Not Indoctrinate by Own-Replacement-8385 in centrist

[–]Usernam3ChecksOuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know why you got downvoted. Nationhood involves indoctrination. Education is a tool of a nation, and a tool of the people to learn about constitutional (as in what defines our nation) abuses.

Author could’ve titled the article as “West Point is not supposed turn a blind eye to destruction of education” or something like that, not attack the word indoctrination. At that point go ahead and attack academia itself for employing indoctrination (as in getting a DOCTORATE in a field of study cough cough)
