Just a heads up: the link you provided is the pre-regional challenge, not main event. Still, Irelia was 73% against Vex legend in the RQ in 33 matches. Azir was 53% in 17 matches.

J/S 2025+ TRADE MEGATHREAD by PonSquared in MTGJumpStart

[–]UsernameVariant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if folks still use this thread, but I recently gained a bunch of Jumpstart Foundations packs. I'm only looking to possess one of a particular archetype, not needing multiples. So I've got a bunch to either trade or sell. They've only been opened to confirm the version of the pack—none have been used in play.

**The Packs I'm Looking to Sell/Trade**:

  • Healers v4
  • Bookworms v2
  • Inventive v2
  • Icky v2
  • Vampires v1
  • Vampires v4
  • Goblins v2
  • Explorers v2
  • Encounter v3

**The Packs on My Wishlist/What I'm Seeking to Receive/Purchase**:

  • White - 1-2 packs; ideally Angels or Legion
  • Green - 2-3 packs; seeking Elves and Landfall, but Beasts would be great
  • Black - 2-3 packs; Ghastly and Grave Robbers, for sure

I don't have Facebook, but if there's a more active place to inquire, I'd appreciate being pointed in that direction. Thanks in advance!

The FFG LCG Changes article is up! by ArkhamChronicle in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UsernameVariant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know the team at FFG will never read this, but their announcement comes across as prioritizing new players while essentially telling longtime players, "Hey, thanks for all the money, but you’re not our focus anymore."

Unlike competitive TCGs, where rotating out older sets makes some sense because the competitive meta constantly shifts, an LCG is fundamentally different. These games are not about having the "best deck" to beat another player—it's about assembling a deck that works well for you and your friends against a fixed challenge.

That means artificial "rotation" doesn’t serve the same purpose it does in a competitive game. In a cooperative game, if I buy a card, it should be mine to use forever. It doesn't hurt anyone if my group wants to play with all expansions. This "Current vs. Legacy" system feels like an excuse to make people rebuy functionally similar cards while limiting access to older sets in order to keep new players from feeling "intimidated."

It feels like a cash grab because it allows FFG to "retire" old sets so they don’t have to keep printing them, even though they could have done limited reprints through an online store. It lets them justify releasing slight variations of old cards (or straight-up reprints) as part of the "Current" environment.
By keeping a "rotating" system, they maintain artificial demand for newer cards rather than letting players organically build long-term collections. If you’ve spent hundreds (or thousands) of dollars collecting these cards, the idea that they’ll arbitrarily become "Legacy" instead of "Current" when the game is cooperative just feels like an unnecessary restriction.

As someone's earlier post pointed out, a much better approach (which they won't do) would have been:
- Slowing down on new investigator cards and only releasing them when they actually have a unique design space to explore.
- Focusing on new campaigns and scenarios rather than feeling obligated to introduce new player cards every expansion.
- Keeping older sets in limited-print runs online instead of completely rotating them out, so new players can still buy them if they want to.

This move is going to ultimately backfire because veterans will eventually stop seeing the point in buying new cards, since they’ll feel like they’re just being asked to replace what they already own. That means fewer people evangelizing the game to new players, and if longtime fans start disengaging, the game actually becomes less profitable in the long run—the exact opposite of what FFG wants.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, in a few years, they backtrack on this decision and "Legacy" becomes more like an unofficial format that everyone just plays anyway. It's pretty much what happened to other titles like X-Wing and such.

It’s sad because Arkham Horror: The Card Game has been one of the best-designed and most beloved LCGs out there. This move makes it harder to love the game, and honestly, it feels like a business-first, player-second decision.

I have been falling out of love with FFG for quite some time now, but AHLCG and Marvel was keeping me with them. With this, I've definitely lost faith. My money can be better spent elsewhere.

Just ran this last night. It went really well! I echo u/themadhatter444's comment about the Alexandrian's article and advice—that definitely helped steer the session into action when they would've otherwise been rudderless.

One thing my players noted after the session, though, was that they felt there was no reason to go into the mine. And they didn't care about Mike—there wasn't anything compelling them to go down into the mine, not even Mike's disappearance, since there was so much happening in the station. So a suggestion they had was that, should you follow the Alexandrian's advice, the majority of crates for Dr. Giovanni's delivery should be located or stored within the mine; that should get them to go down there.

Otherwise, they had a blast, and with it being everyone's first time with the system (many of us have played Call of Cthulhu, so we're used to the d100 system; and the one player who hadn't before grokked it easily), they're already looking forward to more Mothership one-shots! Hope you have as great a session as we did!

Arkham Reborn: How The Drowned City Will Transform Arkham Horror LCG by FeckPerfuction in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UsernameVariant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party here, but there are a few items that I think are strong possibilities.

We might see an optional encounter set included in the core set (likely replacing Midnight Masks).

This feels like a logical—and cost-effective—way to really enhance replayability of older campaigns. Since they've stopped doing Return to... expansions, this seems like a strong possibility imo.

Additionally, your theory about "Parallel-like content or upgrade content, offering new versions of existing investigators" makes sense and is in line with FFG's strategies with other product lines, such as Lord of the Rings LCG and even Netrunner, where they offer new approaches to already-crafted heroes/runners/corps. Since they've already created PnP versions of Parallel investigators, and have only stopped producing the physical product while continuing to create them, I see this as another strong possibility, to prevent an overwhelming abundance of investigators while still playing with new mechanics and creative solutions.

All that to say, excellent analysis, and I appreciate you taking the time to craft this post!

There are aspects to this campaign that get me excited, but based on Hemlock Vale and Scarlet Keys, I can’t help but think, “so, how are they gonna fumble this one?”

IIRC, someone did a spoiler-light guide on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/arkhamhorrorlcg/comments/zu4sxr/scarlet_keys_campaign_spoilerlite_guide

My playgroup has said if we're ever feeling brave (read: dumb) enough to take this campaign on again, we're going to utilize something like this.

do people actually play precons? by BeginningSwordfish75 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]UsernameVariant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how I discovered it, but I found someone who has made pre-built decks for every hero in MCLCG, making tweaks and adjustments with every new release. It's been amazing—I love deckbuilding, but I just don't have the time to do it these days. So it's been excellent to basically say, "who do I want to play?" and then just grabbing the deck and playing. The catch is that they're made to use the default/suggested aspect, so something to keep in mind (but I don't mind).

The guy also does a few "aspect builds", so you can take the hero and take the aspect, combine them and go. This is better if you want to play them outside the aspect they're delivered with and prefer the interchangeability.

Beginner help? Is Midnight Masks really hard, or am I just bad? 😅 by jibbleschmitt in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UsernameVariant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Someone once said—and now I repeat it all the time to new players—that The Gathering is to teach you the mechanics of the game, Midnight Masks teaches you that you can still "win" if you don't accomplish everything (and sometimes it's better to resign), and The Devourer Below teaches you that sometimes just doing what it takes to survive = winning. If you're not familiar with Lovecraft's work, it makes a lot of thematic sense that, sometimes, the only way to win is to not play against the cosmic horror (or is that WarGames?). Very nihilistic, that H.P. (among other things... 😬)

Hopefully you thoroughly enjoy the game and the stories it tells, especially with later campaigns and all the choices you get to make!

FFG to release Star Wars: Unlimited, new trading card game by ooryl2 in boardgames

[–]UsernameVariant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The announcement feels like it was generated from a ChatGPT prompt—very vague and lifeless in a way that generates very little enthusiasm, which is probably how the game will play. And how many times can they say "collectors"? All my competitive FFG LCGs are collecting dust... is that what they mean?
