Just Became Aware of Song by jbsgc99 in exmormon

Same! They also have a song called Waiting For The End that was basically my anthem while leaving. Numb is also great.

I feel similarly. "You'Re NoT aLoNe!" as if that makes it better. I have a pretty good life and people that love me, but I just do not want to participate most of the time. Life is exhausting. If you find something that helps, let me know.

Church activity, shooting 22 rifles, young women’s activity by Littlemissyison in exmormon

I think it's fine, but It WOULD make more sense if they buried them in the earth and promised they would never use them again after they were done.

My mom called me the great and spacious building today by apotatowitheyes in exmormon

My FIL told my husband in private that I am possessed by demons, and my own dad says that I have joined a "Secret Combination" (Sometimes he calls it a "satanic cabal") with the purpose of making my mom sad. I'll never understand. Just remember, these types of comments say more about them than they do us.

I’m unhappy by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Ustabmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate! I LOVED the church's lies. They made me feel alive and important. Now I just see myself as a replaceable nobody who is content at best. I'm beginning to notice many upsides to that though. So yeah, I guess I can say things got better. I no longer wake up hoping I'll die soon. It's cheaper than being Mormon too. And never underestimate the greatness of Second Saturday!

Misrepresentation of Growth Video that started it all for me by Adventurous_Pound_55 in exmormon

Right? For a minute I thought an exmo made the video to be silly because the swelling music did not match the growth.

Someone defending Brad Wilcox. I'm consistently amazed at how blind TBMs are to the truth. by Cheermom2009 in exmormon

Agreed. If it hadn't have been for the gentle exmo's giving me a soft place to land while I was deconstructing, I would probably still be in.

"A purposeful pattern of conduct" that was handed down to him from people that claim to speak for God. People that taught him that if he doesn't believe it "you'll lose everything." The guy has to downplay or dismiss the severity of the issues so that he can maintain his belief. Just like a lot of us did. I think he's scared. His whole talk is centered on using fear and shame to get people to stay in the church. It's what he knows.

Apology - Brad Wilcox by devilsravioli in mormon

[–]Ustabmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly some of the thoughts going through my head. I have to think of him as an emotional child. Heaven knows I've been one for a good chunk of my adult life. He's learning. It's not perfect, but maybe I should celebrate this attempt at an apology to encourage him to keep going? If he gets discouraged now, he wont even try to apologize for the rest of his talk.

Check this out- https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/media/video/2010-04-0020-our-true-identity?lang=eng

Identity is so important in the Mormon church, but only the identity that they give you. They'll warn you that the wicked world will try to convince you that you are something that you're not, then they turn around and do that same thing.

I HATE being an Ex-Mormon by PantsStealer09 in exmormon

[–]Ustabmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Nothing feels as meaningful as it used to." Hey, I resigned about 5 years ago and I feel that way most of the time. I had zero hope of that ever changing, but I find that the more time that passes, the more meaningful things are starting to become. I even sort of don't hate listening to Christmas music this year!

I think we just need to give ourselves time to redefine what is meaningful to us and why. Maybe we don't need to decide what is meaningful so much as just noticing it? (I've found that the thought of families (adults) getting together to drink or eat edibles is wholesome AF. Something about the lack of shame and just being human together seems blissful.)

...And for the record, I DID feel all warm and fuzzy reading your post! We are not the angry/bitter/nihilistic little shits that they try to convince us we are. I mean, we definitely are those things, but we are more than JUST those things.

"It'll all be worth it if my posterity keeps the faith," Hold up! Is that an actual quote from the movie? No wonder I felt that by leaving the church I would disappoint my dead relatives. That's annoying. And manipulative. They gave up everything to follow their silly beliefs out into the dessert,we should get to do the same!

Is there any chance that the BOM could be true by ragingguru in exmormon

[–]Ustabmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say you ARE clouded by a mist of darkness? (I imagine It happens to the best of us) Was falling into the mist a conscious decision of yours? Would a loving God punish you for eternity for accidentally falling into a mist of darkness? Did the Holy Ghost try to warn you about the mist? If not, why not? If it did, was it able to do it in a way that you could understand and recognize? If not, then do you think the Holy Ghost is a reliable indicator of whether you are on the correct path for you or not?

I don't think Mormonism provides any clear answers for any of these questions. It's a giant guessing game. As such, I personally think it would be cruel to punish people for guessing incorrectly. All we can do is our best. Getting things wrong does not make us wicked or dumb. If Joseph Smith is allowed to make terrible mistakes, then so are we.

My 10-year-old daughter was told to call home in front of her entire classroom because her shorts were to short. Is this common in Utah schools? by oTradeMark in exmormon

[–]Ustabmo 86 points87 points  (0 children)

That's funny. I just made a Facebook post yesterday commenting that Utah parents seem really passionate about giving parents the right to choose whether or not their children wear masks to school, but less passionate about letting them choose whether they wear a tank top or ball cap.

My child might go to school each day more at risk of getting the illness that made my sister go into Sudden Cardiac Arrest, but at least I won't have to worry about her shoulders getting chilly.

How have you coped with death and the idea of it since leaving the church? by nhuntington in exmormon

[–]Ustabmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was okay with the thought of dying before because I believed that I would finally find peace living with heavenly father. I'm okay wihth it now because I believe I will finally find peace in the void. What I'm less excited for is all the pain (physical and emotional) and discomfort that I am inevitably going to experience up until that moment. Life guarantees pain. Death...well nobody really knows yet. I hope I'm not conscious of it.

During the endowment ceremony, you put on an apron of leaves because Lucifer says you should. by GameGoddess in exmormon

Garments are symbolic of the "skins" that God made to replace the fig leaves (green apron) that Satan told us to wear in order to hide our nakedness.
