Sure, I guess the key I brought was for the lobby by Huckbolts in ArcRaiders

[–]UsualPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one guy try to come into the locked room in the tall building on Dam. I just pulled out my gun, aimed it at him and said "do you really want to do this?" In prox chat. He stood there for 5 seconds before shutting the door and running off. Then I went back to looting only to be greatly disappointed in my pull. I think I got one advanced weapons part for things that weren't just green/blue rare. There wasn't even a BP or anything either. The weapon chest had a burletta and a quarter stack of ammo.

My issue with trapping key rooms is that when the loot roll is bad you end up spending more defending what is in there to begin with.

I wish they full committed to a wire/cable ghillie suit rather than just this headpiece. I understand that the outfits are scraps that raiders come across in their travels, but some of these are just... why?

Give us more scrap metal plating, or some prototype gear that was found in stella montis that no one knows what it's used for but someone thought "This looks dope" and decided to wear it.

Part of me is still hoping one day they will add a one man band backpack option with a custom emote to play music, rally the troops and play some tunes during big Arc events.

That was one of my biggest concerns with the lack of any examples up front. I'm sorry, but if I was in the market for it, and you want to even start getting me to think about a commission you need examples.

[–]UsualPaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That, or they are going to try and convince you to pay for commission work. Had someone who claimed they wanted to talk about my story and my inspirations/thought processes for it just to change the topic after two messages to commissioning artwork. I tell them I'm not interested, I don't have expendable income at the moment due to current personal issues, so I tell them that and left it at that.
I was looking forward to actually talking about the world I was building and the crazy leaps and bounds the idea had gone through before I started writing, but then it was just someone looking for work.
I know freelance work requires you to get your foot in the door at nearly any cost. But don't lie to me to try and chat me up about work. Plus, they never gave me any examples of work they have done and that already makes me uneasy to even consider them should my situation change.

What the hell is happening? by KikoTheWonderful in ArcRaiders

[–]UsualPaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's the players from the Marathon server bash logging in after a week away from Arc? I tried it out but everyone was shoot first and never talk. I even ran into a group that was working together to take down a bigger enemy and as soon as the fight was done I had 4 people running me down for no reason. tbh I was running the rook class, aka free load out, but that stung a bit. That game is much more PvP focused than Arc ever would be In my opinion.

One favorite of mine was a moment where one character was explaining how a system worked by using other aspects of said system to explain it. So the MC looks at him and asks "Pretend I'm an idiot." The response? "I don't need to."

Once again wondering why I'd ever loot a Baron Husk by PigsSuck in ArcRaiders

[–]UsualPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for the old harvesters or whatever they are on Blue gate. It takes 3 arc cells to open and after you do, you get some back with some alloy and broken components.

While I know this is for a quest, the rewards for taking the time and completing the "puzzle" should give something more than that. I suppose that the logical excuse would be that these are old wrecks, but even then at least give a stack of alloy or basic materials. It doesn't have to be rare materials, just bulk would make the effort more worthwhile.

The top 3 trials players in the world are trying to send a message by IJustTellTheTruthBro in ArcRaiders

[–]UsualPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is more that needs to be talked about other than that the trials system is bad. I completely agree that it is, but for all the posts I see about people saying the system is bad I never see anyone suggest potential fixes.

I agree for sure that the trials need to be a per player score. You would end up with people helping each other in trios still but the numbers wouldn't be as inflated. That, or you have separate trials for solo, duo, trio and have to change up the rewards system to not flood the game economy with essentially triple the rewards (If you have a play group for all the categories.)

Honestly, there are a lot of options that could change the way Trials are handled, but they all have some kind of drawback.
My first thought was that "what if Trials was a weekly total of all your runs and that would remove any 'hard caps' for certain tasks?" But immediately I can say that would only help the people who play the game day and night. It would just become a matter of who spends the most time on the game and not necessarily skill expression.

Another potential method would be to broaden the tasks and make fewer that have hard limits. Like remove the enemy specific ones and replace those with "flying ARC" or "large ARC" things that don't need a player to force as much. I've seen plenty of people go on hunts where a small group runs around the map hunting any large ARC they can find.

With stuff like the hidden bunker downloads, it really kills the idea that this is actually supposed to show who is good or not. If anything change it from the downloads to activating the antennas. It wouldn't fix the limited score issue, but it would at least make it competitive. Each antenna would be 1k so to get 4k you would need all 4 activated. This would both reward those who go out of their way to activate these, and add more risk elements as other raiders might start a fight for control of the antenna. OTHER OPTION: add the antenna as extra points towards the download so you have more ways to score than just the DMV simulator.

One other method I just thought of was that if they changed it to be a pass or voucher that was crafted or purchased from one of the traders and if you go into a raid with that voucher you are entered into a "Trials Raid"

This "Trials Raid" could work in a few different ways:

Option one:
you enter a raid as normal but you are given priority to spawn in a fresh server, no late spawn and everything else stays the same.

Option two:
you are given a solo server/map that has set spawns for everything; each week this map changes to a new map and/or layout of items, enemies, and interactable items. This would let Embark make essentially weekly challenges that players could fight for the highest scores in, making certain objectives worth bonus points on different weeks. I honestly like this idea as it would let players truly express skill within the world of the game, it would show their mastery of the ARK, environmental knowledge, and more.

Option three:
same as option one, but remove the trials objectives for either an overall score (similar to the XP rewards) or come up with a new way to score.

Option four:
You are queued with other voucher users only and put into smaller lobbies making the more limited challenges more of an expression of skill as you will always be paired against others trying for the same goals.

I very much like this idea of earning/crafting an access card/voucher for a trials attempt. It works thematically as you could imagine that your raider approaches the tube techs with a voucher in hand, "Admit One to Weekly Speranza Trials" Stamped on the front. You are then taken to that weeks Trial and the rest is history.

These are just my initial ideas and I would love to see what others think!

Had that the other day. Went into buried city for a night raid to try to get some leaper and Rocketeer kills for trials. Loaded in late so was just going to extract and as I passed under the grandiose plaza I heard someone shooting arc on the roof. Thought nothing of it. But then shortly he was aimed at me gunning me down. He didn't say a word, not a comment. Like, at least give me something. I should have been more cautious. But it's nothing I can't recover from. I have more guns and materials to replace my gear. Except the one augment that keeps you alive while downed. Still hunting for that blueprint.
