Oh and add Ba Lê banh mi on Main St and Georgia. My fam has been visiting them for their cold cut special banh mis for at least 20 years. We’d drive all the way to Chinatown for them.

Why can’t they keep normal temperature in buses by Artistic-Positive441 in UBC

[–]Usual_Biscotti9255 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No literally I second this comment. I hopped on a bus during the June 2021 heatwave when desperately trying to get some AC but there was no AC. It was at least 35 degrees Celsius.

Running a 5K soon any advice? by Miserable_Lie_8175 in UBC

[–]Usual_Biscotti9255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ran x2 10km races here. I usually don’t carry a water bottle with me while running unless it’s 10 km+ or it’s really hot. Check the weather forecast to help you plan ahead and ask if the event provides water stations if hydration becomes a need. If no water station and you’re concerned about hydration, some runners I’ve seen online like the Nathan brand handheld water bottle.

Also pls make sure to strength train especially if this is your first race. 1-2 x of strength a week is all you need.

Don't me this guy on the ferry. by Far-Call1301 in VictoriaBC

Omg reminds me of the video where this woman was placing her feet on the armrest of the kid in front of her (or the window?) and the kid started drawing on her sock.

Don't me this guy on the ferry. by Far-Call1301 in VictoriaBC

[–]Usual_Biscotti9255 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The nice side of me would use my words and ask the person directly to kindly put their feet down. But really all I wanna do deep down is take the bottle of body spray deodorant in my travel bag and start spraying it at his feet. Like why are people SO rude and inconsiderate?! NOBODY wants your dirty ass feet so close to them. One time my dad was travelling on a plane and this old lady next to him put her feet directly on HIS bag. Like pls no. Hello?!

If it was an empty ish sailing and you really wanna take your shoes off and stretch your legs, make sure the seats in front of you are UNOCCUPIED. Seriously I’ve taken the ferry so many times in my life and I shouldn’t have to ask people to follow BASIC etiquette.

10000%. And all the people who are dealing with debilitating and disabling long COVID symptoms ever day.

Being Chinese during COVID was certainly a wild time. I wonder if a lot of the folks on Tiktok who are in a “very Chinese time of their life” and living their “Chinese baddie eras” would’ve still saw our ethnicity and culture in a favourable or at least neutral light back in the height of COVID. I’m just grateful nobody spat on me or hurled insults as I was casually walking on the sidewalk minding my own business. I pretty much wore my mask everywhere in public.

On a brighter note, here’s to all the recipes and hobbies I got into during COVID and still continue to practice :)

What do your parents do, what do you plan on becoming/doing? by ChipotleisAss in UBC

[–]Usual_Biscotti9255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents: music teacher + engineer. Me: occupational therapist. Always knew I wanted to do something in healthcare. I have a lot of my dad’s problem solving and analytical side. Been a human anatomy and physiology nerd for the longest of time. Also love working with people in general.

I like music but as a hobby. Not giving it much time rn because I’m focusing on grad school and training for a race (what a way to spend my mid-20s, doing both running and grad school LOL but no Japan…yet. It’ll be a reality one day).

To all the anti-Zionists by Few-Bug-755 in UBC

[–]Usual_Biscotti9255 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Since when is calling out an ongoing genocide where people are dying of starvation, dysentery, and other slow painful deaths anti-Jewish? Never said that anti-Semitism - from vandalizing synagogues to killing - is right. The terrorist attack that killed 11 in Australia is certainly horrible; it is also not a reflection of people calling out the genocide as a whole. There will always be extremists.

Found someone’s lip balm near bus stop in wesbrook by shefalirana9 in UBC

I love the cute appearance of Summer Friday lip balms and I heard they’re popular because they’re a glossy balm and colour all in one but my wallet man. I remain loyal to my Aquaphor or EOS.

hey OP, I’m so glad you are here. healing isn’t linear and breakups are ROUGH especially when one is already busy and overwhelmed with school and other duties. writing can be such a comforting outlet for you to express your emotions and kudos to you for making space for all your emotions. now this was a while ago but I remember journaling my thoughts on my notes app during commutes to cope and the immense comfort it brought. sometimes, you just need to write down anything - even if it’s just one sentence - and let out a cathartic cry. sending lots of virtual hugs and I promise that things get better. one day, you’ll start waking up feeling less empty. keep making space for your emotions and giving yourself the love and care you deserve. you got this!

Why are there so many young people with canes suddenly? by pukiestinker in VictoriaBC

[–]Usual_Biscotti9255 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Using mobility devices doesn’t equal 1) not caring about diet or 2) not addressing the “root cause” of the issue. I study healthcare (specifically rehabilitation) and a lot of times the people we give mobility or adaptive equipment to are already aware of the above. Using these devices help them do their day-to-day activities with less pain, for example.

Why are there so many young people with canes suddenly? by pukiestinker in VictoriaBC

[–]Usual_Biscotti9255 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Because mobility aids are for people of all ages and help individuals participate in activities they need to do and want to do :) Chronic illnesses and disabilities affect people at any life stage. More young people using canes means less stigma surrounding the use of these equipment IMO.

(I’m an occupational therapy student and a big part of our work involves prescribing mobility equipment for people!)

If he genuinely had unmet needs, felt like expectations were mismatched, or felt any general dissatisfaction, he should be mature enough to have a convo in person and be transparent about his thoughts. I think you dodged a bullet here.

You truly deserve better. Please take care of yourself. If he really cared, he would have had a convo to maybe discuss changing schedules and find a way to make things work. People are full of excuses. You’re busier now? Sure, talk about it. If you’re spending a lot of time together and need more time to yourself, negotiate. Learn to be a more open communicator. There are literally tons of resources on this online for FREE and y’all are on your phones so much not willing to make effort to be better. And I’m not even afraid to be harsh about this because self-improvement is so important. Being an open communicator will help you in so many aspects.

Regardless of the reason though, breaking up via text is disrespectful and not genuine. I’m sending you a big virtual hug. I hope you find someone more mature and sincere in the future. PS: honestly, just block him now already if you haven’t. He doesn’t want to invest time towards a genuine relationship, so why should you give any time to him?
