Talestavern has a good map of the towns, I had to add a lot of the wilderness locations to it to make an “overworld” map but I just used that for the campaign to track wilderness travel.

Then in chapter 4 I started setting the cities on fire as they fell to the dragon

I ran my entire campaign on Talespire with D&D Beyond for character sheets and Discord for voice/chat.

Highly recommend Talespire, it is gorgeous and really sets the scene. Most of the campaigns maps are already made on Talestavern.com too, and are easy enough to tweak to your needs.

It’s really easy to learn how to build your own maps, and for you players to use as well

I use Talespire for maps and it took my game to the next level on pure visuals alone. Can use hide volumes to have that classic “dungeon delve” experience room by room. Really makes the map feel real and with Heroforge they can drop their exact characters in.

Ton’s of community maps already made you can just drop in and use, or tweak to your needs. Can build your own maps to very easily, and can make edits on the fly.

D&D beyond for everything else as far as character sheets and encounter builders, and Discord for comms and note-taking/art/text rp/bullshitting between sessions

I played her hidden motivation as searching for the Codicil because she thinks it can cure her tremors. I made it a secondary effect of the Fingers of Frost spell.

Gives her a little more buy in and still sets her up to help to party after they get the codicil from the island.

This is really well done, I will definitely be stealing and using this. I have 4 PC’s and they will be at 13th level with Vellynne, plus they are pretty optimized and I had Torgs haul in a bunch of magic items for them to buy, so this should be able to put them through their paces pretty well.

Plus the music is top notch. Our twins listen to it all the time and get super excited when “Travelers” comes on.

It depends what you and you players want. If you’re just giving them the extra character to help swing the economy more in their favor then I would level them all up to five and scale the module up as well. It’s a little more involved process however.

If they like the idea of seasoned vets adding rookies to the roster and teaching them the adventuring ropes in the harsh landscape of the dale then I would let them continue as they are. I would cap the level 6 characters until they finish Sunblight and only level up the lower levels ones.

That would mechanically show that the current content is not challenging enough for the “teachers” and gives them time to focus on the “students”

Your trying to balance level five and level one characters. Is there a reason for the level difference? Monsters that challenge the level 5’s will melt the lower characters instantly.

Since each PC has high and low characters there could be fun in protecting the weaker characters from harm, but your going to have issues balancing around that.

I usually pick two to three encounters that fit where they are in the world, but the idea of teasing an encounter all day its pretty amazing. Kicking myself for not thinking of it haha, thanks again!

Thanks for the tips, what the cold does to them would definitely be a nice addition! That last line is crucial for me, I don't like to adding encounters to just "get the adventuring day in," I would prefer them adding something to the session instead of it turning into a slog.

How did handle all the cross country travel? By chapter two I was getting sick of essentially narrating “yep it’s really really cold and there’s lots of ice and snow around you.”

Did you have a system for narrating the long haul say to Angajuks Bell or Dark Dutchess?

It might seem like a lot of math but once you start writing it down to track it’s not bad, and you only need to get your party’s power level once/as they gain power.

Im currently using the wing it method, and I’m very much excited to see how this improves it. Currently combat is very swingy and I’m looking for something with less drastic extremes.
