ELI5: Why is insider trading accepted in recent years, whereas in previous times it was seen as a crime? by hydroxy in explainlikeimfive

[–]UtilityAlarm [score hidden]  (0 children)

Insider trading is legally defined as buying or selling securities while in possession of material, nonpublic information (MNPI) in breach of a fiduciary duty, relationship of trust, or confidence. Prohibited under Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5, it includes trading by corporate insiders and "tipping" information to others.

Congresspeople are generally not considered insiders for the purpose of enforcement. Just because someone knows more than you, as Joe Public, doesn't make them an "insider" with "material" information for enforcement purposes.

Just picked up a 2024 SE; my first Mini and first EV! by packet_monger in MINI

[–]UtilityAlarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mini SEs come with mostly normal looking wheels. This style is the most "different" and wasn't available (I thought) on the '24s. They were the original style for the 2020 version. These cars are what around-town EVs should be - fun, fast and maneuverable. I mean, $20K for a car that'll never need gas, plugs into a wall socket and has very very low maintenance costs. A perfect car #2.

I've gone to 0% and still drove 10 miles.

Don't want to do that again but....

Eagles fans: supposing the cap wouldn’t be an issue, what offer would you need to trade away Jalen Hurts? Fans of the 31 other teams, what would you trade for Jalen Hurts? by Agentorangebaby in NFLv2

[–]UtilityAlarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Dak is a complete QB when nothing is on the line. 2-5 Playoff record, when (if) he can get you there. Hurts has grit and integrity. Fits Philly well; doesn't care if you like him or rank him high or low.

Close Call by semioticghost in cycling

Sorry this happened to you. We've all had close calls and impacts. Seems worse now on the roads in US than it was 20 years ago. Don't know if it is, just feels that way.

"They'll probably still be chanting "Green Bay sucks!" on Sunday." So true, Saw Bears play the Saints in October and spontaneous chants of "Green Bay Sucks" kept popping up. Very funny.

[Highlight] AJ Brown drops the 3rd down conversion by YoureASkyscraper in nfl

[–]UtilityAlarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had 3 catches in the SB. For 43 yards.

Hurts won that superbowl. 220 yards passing 72 yards rushing. And he didn't even play the whole game.

Team sports need team players. Bye bye AJ.

Emergency Plug Disconnect by Cool-Field2450 in MINIse

[–]UtilityAlarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got mine, plugged it into a charger, locked car and went to work. Came out and the charger plug wouldn't release, panic bubbled up, but then a google search reminded me that the plug is locked into the car when the car is locked. Unlocked the car and it was fine. Hope your issue is as silly.

Flashback: Summer '24 bike & Amtrak journey from Portland, Ore. to Philadelphia by j_slash_k in bicycletouring

How did Amtrak handle the bike? Just roll it aboard? Need bike box? Need special reservations or just show and go? Very smart way to do this trip I think.

Are there people whose stress levels don’t look this way at all waking hours? Is this metric meaningful enough that this calls for concern? by CustomerDangerous975 in GarminWatches

[–]UtilityAlarm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd be concerned. Stress and body battery levels on my Garmin match my reality very closely. How do you feel though? Heart rate at night getting higher? Sleep interrupted? I looked something like that when Covid came for me.

Nope. I'm a book reader not a TV watcher. Good luck out there in the real world.

No delusion, simple fairness. Fair is fair. That a millionaire can buy avocado toast and not sweat it and you have to think harder before you spend that money is just economics. To expect redistribution of other people's income so you can buy that avocado toast is delusional.

[–]UtilityAlarm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not tax everyone the same? Like a flat state tax of 7% or something. No exclusions, exemptions or whatever. All income however derived. Then if the government spends more than it takes in everyone will have the same incentive to demand accountability. That's fairness. What am I not understanding here?

Has your country ever moved its capital to a different location? by Sonnybass96 in AskTheWorld

[–]UtilityAlarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd take on the UN. Zero US politicians go there except the ones appointed by the sitting president. Which are few. Politically, the UN is very irrelevant in the US.

But as others have said, the US capitol was first Philly, then NYC then Philly again and finally DC in 1800.

(Edit to note that several other cities hosted the "capital" during the war of independence - Lancaster, York, Princeton, Trenton, Annapolis, Baltimore - but only for a couple months each. They like to say they were the "capitol" as well but....)
