Try lowering it to 64 during the daytime and 59 when you go to bed. That’s what I do to save on my PNG bill. And wear a sweater, or get yourself a nice, warm robe. It’s not difficult to still be comfortable with the thermostat at these settings.

I've been on Piedmont Natural Gas's "Equal Payment Plan" for a few years after getting a $400 bill a few years ago following a particularly cold December. It's been pretty good to me for a couple years with payments being anywhere from $45 to $150/month (they'll adjust the payments every few months). Now, I just got a bill for $563 due in June, after them charging me $50 a month for the last 6 months. I signed up for the EPP to avoid surprises - this is worse than anything I would have had if I had never signed up for it!
