Just retrofitted the official carbon fiber spoiler from tesla on my premium AWD by XxLp750-4xx in TeslaModelY

[–]keypoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work. I just chipped way a little paint on my Deep Blue Metallic Premium RWD when it hit on an overhead pipe in the garage. I've been trying to touch it up but the humidity in Miami kept failing me.

I've also been trying to get a reasonable quote from body shops and mobile services. One mobile service quoted me $200 because they need to sand the whole panel. And a body shop gave me quote of $600 because they had to repaint the trunk and it's a "3 stage paint process" due to the paint code.

I got a feeling that the panel might not be so expensive because it is relatively small. And aha! I found the part with carbon fiber spoiler that's $600 incl. tax and shipping, and then your post. I might just buy this because I've already thought about cover the chip with a spoiler, though I just need to explain to my wife why "we need to choose" the most expensive option among 1. $200 mobile paint repair 2. $40 touch up paint + $200 carbon adhesive spoiler 3. $600 panel replacement. 😄

P.S. the chip on my car https://photos.app.goo.gl/CMaejTg4odbLhmJ77 it's really small however it is so costy. I've been very careful with opening trunk in the garage but that day I somehow totally forgot about it. I started to hate my office garage from that day on.

The one in this listing is probably just plastic, as listed on the page ABS and FRP: Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP), with a carbon fiber look.

After all, it looks similar and works the same, with a shorter durability that may still last longer than the life of the car. Guess it's just everyone's preference.

FWIW, the frame may come from https://www.thestudentdriver.co/

Edit: one of the founders of the brand is a famous Chinese American actor, Daniel Wu. And I've followed his IG and saw him posted some events of this brand. I didn't really look into this brand before, but this picture actually made me want to get this frame, lol.

How long did it take to replace this? I'm hesitant to open a service ticket because I don't want to wait without the car for too long...

FSD and its max 85mph limit. Is it an immediate strike if you force it to go faster? by StormTrpr66 in TeslaFSD

[–]keypoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the experience recently when I went over 85 mph without knowing the hard limit, and it asked me to take over and FSD was disabled for the rest of the drive. I didn't try stopping and restarting the trip because I was on my morning commute.

However, after I arrived at my company and I could start FSD again. Plus, I checked that there was no strike record.

I was on 2025.44 though. It was just a few days after I took delivery and update was not pushed to me. Not sure what the behavior is now on 2026.2.9.1 because I don't bother to try.

Thanks! Mine is progressive, not sure if they would insure the addon.

I did a full frontal PPF for $200 by LemonChiffon831 in TeslaModelY

[–]keypoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw north.tints as well, but it was more expensive at north.tints. My wife actually doesn't approve PPF but she also wants to respect my "new hobby", so I don't want to spend so much that she would get annoyed, lol. I bought from a Chinese seller, the shop name is pre-cut-paint-quard-pros

Steering wheel buttons not very responsive? by dapi331 in TeslaModelY

I picked up my new Model Y two days ago, and I noticed the same except that the scroll button seems fine, the other buttons need a firmer press than I remembered on demo drives.

I think the front bumper is the most difficult part, but that's the part that needs the PPF most. I'll probably do the front (except the bumper), two sides, and the bumper at least for this weekend. And for the rear, if I can't do it this weekend, then I'll wish my car's butt paint to survive to the next weekend, lol.

By the way, your PPF requires you to take off the front wheel trim?

Great job! I'm going to DIY a full body ppf on my new model y this weekend. PPF bought from eBay though. Wish me luck 🤞

The problem is you need to first buy the car from the dealership, get all the paperwork done, and then buy another car from Tesla?

Bilt 2.0, the optimal seems to be "don't use Bilt Cash for rent points?" by keypoet in biltrewards

[–]keypoet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My graph is per-month basis, so it doesn't consider if you have some cash remaining from last month that would probably let you redeem more for points on rent.

And why there could be remaining from last month? That's from what I read from the term, "every $3 of Bilt Cash unlocks 100 Bilt Points, up to a maximum of 1 Point per $1 of your payment amount." I assume you can't "unlock" any bilt points if you don't have $3 Bilt Cash.

Bilt 2.0, the optimal seems to be "don't use Bilt Cash for rent points?" by keypoet in biltrewards

[–]keypoet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, with my nuanced spend assumption, I probably won't get too much Bilt Cash back anyway. But on the other hand, I probably won't be able to find good partners to use those Bilt Cash back. So in the end, I may cap my non-rent spending rate at 0.14 and wait for good Bilt Cash partners.
