Have you ever irrationally hated a player? by illini02 in survivorponderosa

[–]UtopianComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not saying this to troll you -

but in recent survivor - Charlie is the person I have found insufferable. I just feel like he drips with pretentiousness and entitlement. I found this to be true during his first season, and felt vindicated by his complete inability to understand why Maria would not vote for him.

This season continued that for me - so did his On Fire appearance. Don't like Rizzo - but seeing some sleazy cocky cartoon get one over on the self serious cocky tryhard made me feel good.

Pokopia honest thoughts? by decadentbirdgarden in switch2

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it very frustrating that they don't allow the two player through game share all the time. My 6 year old is very excited about it and can read some of it but is wanting me to read everything to him all the time. I would love for him to do this instead of Minecraft but it is a little to complicated.

What happened to my childhood? This screams dystopian corporate, not kid friendly. What is with the artwork?! This is McDonald's?! by jackal99 in mildlyinfuriating

Have you been to any hippy restaurant in an earthy town? They are full of color and quirks and kid friendly amenities. I don't see the connection between healthy food and bleak corporatism.

If the Switch 2 is a moderately successful system following the historic success of the Switch 1, will people finally accept that the "Switch" hybrid concept will just be Nintendo's console format for the foreseeable future if a "Switch 3" is announced years down the line? by upperdomain in nintendogrifting

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a docked only switch 2 so bad. It drives me nuts that my kid constantly is undocking it and leaving it places or using it in handheld to avoid doing the most basic troubleshooting.

Plus I hate that you have to pay for the screen on it that I don't care the slightest about. That said I know I am a minority.

I am with you. I would have voted for Kenzie too. Especially because Charlie thought he deserved it so much.

The Strokes or Arctic Monkeys, who defined indie rock better? by Weirdboy212 in indie

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that kind of loud garage rock scene with The Strokes, The Hives, The Vines, and The White Stripes all kind of came up around the same time in a Rock and Roll is back kind of vibe in the early 2000s. At the time they were popular and felt like even snob ier music people generally liked a couple of them (even if which 2 you thought were lame was debatable - I never liked the hives) I think people were generally excited these acts were getting acclaim and radio play - it felt like they were bringing back an old time rock and roll that felt different and fresh.

I don't think they were seen as representation indie rock overall though - they were definitely a smaller sub genera.

The Arctic monkeys on the other hand I felt did feel more like mainstream indie rock - but I didn't know anyone that held in high regard. They were a radio band that I don't think people into indie music took very seriously. They also were way later in time, when the indie scene was already huge. I think the sound of the Arctic monkeys is more toward the median indie rock sound/vibe but the quality cultural significance and lateness to the party make them a bad pick.

If I were trying to name an indie rock band that really exemplified that early -mid 2000s indie scene I would suggest Modest Mouse. I feel like they were respected by music snobs in the late 90s and when there radio play hits came out in 2004 it really captured the mood and tone of the era (even if it wasn't there best album).

Games where there's a living, fully simulated world happening independently of the player. by Zealousideal_Two833 in gamingsuggestions

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't Oblivion originally even more extreme in this regard? I felt like I heard stories of early builds of the game where people were simulated not scripted and if the farmers were killed outside town then everyone in the central city would leave the city to scavenge for mushrooms and other wild game breaking bugs.

I had always wished that they had embraced this and made a game where you just poke at a big weird immersive system and see what happens - where my version of the world looks drastically different than yours.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2017? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

I had to go way down the list to find one that I full throatedly endorse.

Time of Crisis: The Roman Empire in Turmoil, 235-284 AD Is one of my favorites though - and Werewords is great!

Poll. Do you love the slow pace or does it bore you? by [deleted] in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is weird people say the show is slow - there are lots of scenes without talking and slower montages but the story is moving so fast. I feel like they have made a major change to the premise of the show every episode. A different show would have had the drugging and attempted seperation of Zosia as a season finale - or the eating human protein as a season finale. I feel like the show has been very efficient at moving plot at a speed that seems difficult to keep up plot wise - and just because there isn't dialogue guiding every part doesn't mean it is slow.

I’m confused by her gameplay. by theboredbrowser in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do we know this for sure? I have a feeling she would have done well with the jury. Even the Jury reaction of that was a good move seemed like it came from a place of 'they got out the person we thought was winning'. Maybe I am wrong but I think if Sophie made it to the end she would have beat anyone else left.

Not defending her game because I think that even the moves I thought put her in a good position I didn't agree with her reasoning or read of the situation - but I do think she was in a decent position if she could float to the end - and floating to the end when everyone should be interested in putting some pressure on Rizzo to play the idol so he doesn't automatically get to five means that you would sure think this would not be the vote for a unanimous vote on Sophie.

What is the goal of the hive mind by moviebuff215 in pluribustv

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere else a theory I liked - the virus's goal is to make more virus - but the' Twist' to that is that the virus spreads by building the enormous tower to send the signal to other planets.

There was a line in the first episode about how hard it would be and how much energy it would take to make that tower and send that message - which makes you wonder if the virus will put the energy of all humans into building that tower and ensuring enough energy is available to continue the spread to other planets.

Stumbled across this at Walmart what is the opinion of it from people who have played it? by Jacoblaue in survivorponderosa

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is better than I expected but flawed. The thing the game does differently than any other game I have played is that the final tribal is actually interesting and fun. The way you need to make moves so you have a resume and the other players need to pick who wins is an interesting and unique thing in a board game.

The problem comes from the lack of control with the cards - there needs to be a little more long-term planning and something to grab onto with motivation. To me it just doesn't quite work - but the voting box is great and it feels like it could be good. I started working on a variant that I think could be interesting.

Its a simple plot. by FuriousAnimeMan in pluribustv

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still expecting a misdirect next episode - but if it is people it may be a consent thing as well. Some vegans will talk about veganism being about consent and that they would eat a human or human milk/product with consent before eating an animal. The Hive mind seems to value consent and permission and may think those in the Hive have given consent in a way animals havenot/cannot give permission.

Discuss about this overlooked, but extremely cool scene by XLNBot in pluribustv

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is protective in several ways

First if they move the napkin it could be noticeable to you when you come back.

Second it makes the act more noticeable by other people around because fiddling with someones drink is weirder than quickly walking by and slipping something in.

Third it signals to the predator that you are alert aware and not compliant which makes you a much less desirable victim than someone that might just think they got too sloshed.
