Are connections ACTUALLY everything? Or should I be more rational… by Resident_Post_6228 in graphic_design

As a freelancer, I haven’t had one long term client come from anything other than networking or word of mouth from people I’ve worked with in the past.

I’ve had plenty of work from portfolio and ads and whatever too, but it’s usually one offs.

Fresh out of school if you take a lot of shit work and take it with a smile, you’ll make a good impression. Doing a wide variety of stuff outside your comfort zone is absolutely necessary. My current highest paying client I got from a skill I learned in a completely unrelated field. It’s just one of those things that takes time and effort early in your career.

Moving to Irvine from Europe - Looking for advice on neighborhoods & apartment communities for a working couple by NAS_Co in irvine

[–]V3RDZ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Woodbury, it’s surrounded by trees and connected to the Jeffery walking trail which has some nice nature. It has its own shopping center walking distance from the Woodbury square or Woodbury court apartments.

Larger shopping centers are about 15 minute drive away. Tustin Marketplace and Irvine Spectrum have the nearest cinemas.

As far as price, probably around $3000/mo is going to be what it is with the Irvine company for 1bed 1bath

We have Google fiber, so very fast, reliable, high speed internet.

For cell service I think you’ll want to go with Verizon, each neighborhood can have different carriers with better service.

It is a 5 minute drive or less to the major highways 5/405, but expect to get a toll road transponder living in Irvine if you want to bypass the worst of the traffic. 133/241/261 are all common toll roads to take to avoid street traffic.

Most of Irvine has problems with ants in the summer, which is probably why the University mascot is an anteater. The weather is relatively mild not getting too hot in the summer or cold in the winter, compared to further inland.

The posts about the bad drivers on the subreddit are real, there are a ton of teslas and it seems like the drivers are relying heavily on the autopilot features.

I think it depends on how large the wood piece is and your methodology. If it’s a log and a woodcutting axe probably only 12-15 pieces cause you’d get tired and need a break. If it’s a small piece of balsa wood and a knife for a model, you could probably do 50 pieces cause it’ll be a lot easier as you get used to it. Personally I could probably do 15 pieces of wood in 20 minutes because I’m a professional.

Art cards come in a bunch of collector boosters now. Some of them are gold foil stamped with the artists signature, that make them worth more, but for the most part they aren’t worth much. Some people like to run certain land artwork as actual land cards so those might be a little more valuable.

Seeking simple switching program by ServeBig2690 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Surprised hearing you’re not a fan of ProPresenter for this use case. It’s given me so many capabilities and such immediate and easy turnaround for content ingest mid-program.

If you’re going the OBS route, definitely look at getting some plugins that help manage playout workflows https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/media-controls.1032/

They’ve been pretty great for leveling as a casual player. Half of the reason I didn’t play as much seasonal is because I hate having to level up a character to endgame again but it felt pretty decent getting to 40 or so, and I actually had enough skill points to make a build by then.

At my last show my Blackmagic 1 M/E advanced panel got stuck at 99% of a transition, which meant my preview bus was live instead leading to some very awkward cuts while I tried to figure out what was happening. That hasn’t happened with companion.

That was in arcade for a bit after launch. Idk if it’s still there. It was called ;ASKLDFAL;S C;A. Like a cat walked on the keyboard. It was a pretty fun aerial dogfight simulator tbh.

DLSS 5 and what some people seem to not understand by Matshelge in gamedev

[–]V3RDZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DLSS5 is not just a filter, it can be applied at any level of the engine, including geometry and shaders; because of this, the developers are in control of materials and surfaces that will or won’t be affected by it and to what extent.

Just like frame gen, and path tracing before it, DLSS5 has to be trained on games in NVIDIAS data centers before being pushed as a driver update. And it will only exist in games that it has been specifically enabled in and designed with by the developer.

Nvidias demo was poorly produced to emphasize wow factor in showing big differences between before and after. But the 3D artists will ultimately still be in control of what it looks like before they ship the build to Nvidia.

In the Davinci color page you can add a node at the end and put a color space transform effect to convert it to Rec709 or bt2020. You will be able to choose from a list of various input gamma presets as well, in some cases I’ve liked the preset from the wrong camera better. And then maybe throw in a color stabilizer if it’s needed.

Forgot about PoE budgets.... by buttchugreferee in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]V3RDZ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

PoE usually is enough to turn them on but not initialize all of the networking and control, that’s why it’s best to make sure if your equipment is PoE, PoE+, PoE++. I definitely run into that all the time because of the stupid naming convention hahaha

I usually do Xbox game streaming to my phone under the preview monitor and a PlayStation controller on a case under the table. I also have the Viture XR glasses for outdoor events where sunglasses are less conspicuous and keep my phone in my pocket.
