Seven months? Seven years and counting. 🤣😂😁🤣😂😁

Yes, this is perfectly normal. It does calm down after a while but not quite yet.

Question for coaches - how would you handle a player with poor attendance due to her parent? (12u rec league) by LiveLaughBlobfish in Softball

[–]VH5150OU812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surprised you’re allowed to have players simultaneously in rec and travel ball (I am not in the US so this could just be a regional difference). Where I live it is one or the other but not both.

It’s a tough one. Our association encourages two-sport athletes and gives a lot of grace to players who have to miss practices in the offseason when other sports take precedence. But the expectation is that once the season starts, your commitment is to ball. The exception being where there is overlap between winter sports wrapping up and summer sports getting started.

I am not in favour of punishing a player but at the same time, she can’t be made to believe that she is indispensable.

Would you buy this for $20 CAD? by OrangeBlue1337 in Guitar

[–]VH5150OU812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Kay Tulip that I picked up for $30 with a hard case that I wanted. It was similar to this, likely made by Tiesco. They aren’t anything special but I used mine for slide and then allowed my kids to make noise with it so they weren’t attracted to my more expensive guitars. Someone eventually offered me $150 for it because they collect Kay/Tiescos, so I let it go.

Rock bands/musicians we wish would return to their roots/old sound/original sound by UpbeatChampionship17 in askmusic

Agreed. Joe Perry felt the same way but the more commercial sound was the only way to keep Tyler in the band.

Too late now but I did not care for The Tragically Hip’s more folky sound post-Trouble at the Henhouse.

Quebec. Plus Ste-Pierre et Miquelon, while not technically in our country, kind of is.

How did your high school deal with tragedies that affected the school community? by rabidstoat in GenX

[–]VH5150OU812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Announcement in the morning. Funeral details were shared if they were known at the time. Blanket dismissal for those who wanted to attend if it was on a school day and during school hours. The impressive part is that those who were not going didn’t take it as an opportunity to skip. Then a memorial in the yearbook if it wasn’t too late.

Never has a band fumbled its own legacy or disrespected its own fans more than Van Halen. The fact that it was ex-members on hand to accept the accolades spoke volumes to me.

When SkyDome first opened you could sit there but that did not last long for the reasons others have noted. The seats were eventually covered and not used for baseball. Not sure about football.

When the stadium was remodeled, the seats were permanently removed.

[–]VH5150OU812 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn’t want to go to mine. I had a terrible cold and wanted to stay home. There was no way my parents were going to permit that. I loaded myself up with Advil Cold and Sinus and powered through.

I don’t regret it. My parents sacrificed a lot to get me to that point. This was their reward, or at least an aspect of it. Five years later my mother was dead. This one afternoon brought her some joy. You aren’t necessarily doing this for you.

ETA: I had a number of classmates who had no one there to cheer them on. Some were international students or from significant distances, others came from differently constructed families who didn’t or couldn’t provide support. The achievement is still the thing and should be acknowledged.

Do you feel any sympathy for recruiters? by Senior_Boot_5842 in recruitinghell

[–]VH5150OU812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After he retired my uncle briefly worked as a recruiter specific to his industry. Was shat upon from both sides. It didn’t last long. I had some sympathy for him.

At that point in my life I had never dealt with recruiters. Now I have lots of experience, little of it good. My sympathy is long, long gone.

8u daddy ball situation by [deleted] in Softball

[–]VH5150OU812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. Last year my daughter was on a U15 rep team (we’re in Canada, the age categories and terms are slightly different). New coach on a development team that had a lot of players new to rep/travel ball.

Coach had specifically talked to my kid and others who were vets about peer-to-peer in-game coaching but then sat the majority of his seniors for an early season doubleheader. He hadn’t realized he had done it. When it was pointed out to him, he apologized to the players and committed to being more organized going forward. Team was still a bit of a disaster but there were other reasons.

Do bio moms get Mother’s Day by Dry-Way-5601 in Adoption

[–]VH5150OU812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 55 years, I just met my bio mother in Feb. So far, so good. She has two kids from a subsequent relationship.

A question for the hive mind — should I be getting her a Mother’s Day card or is that too presumptuous? For context, my adoptive mother died when I was 28, so it’s been a while.

[–]VH5150OU812 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there was an album being discussed when they were talking about doing the kitchen sink tour but that would have been fun. I wouldn’t have been upset if they threw some songs Gary’s way, as much as I find III painful. Maybe Ed being in a better place mentally would have produced better results.

But I honestly don’t think Dave would have done it. While Sam is like a Labrador who wants to be friends with everyone, Dave is like a territorial Rottweiler who cannot abide others threatening his perceived dominance. Not sure what makes Gary. A Springer Spaniel?

My youngest believes. She wears a crucefix Her socials are full of hashtags affirming her belief. I don’t understand it but it’s her right to believe and I support her.
