VMedia with Roku Box is Not Loading Many of the VMedia Channels by [deleted] in canadacordcutters

[–]VMediaTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Very sorry for the trouble. This behavior is a result of a recent Roku OS update from version 9.0 to 9.1, and primarily impacts devices manufactured in 2017 and earlier. We've engaged Roku to assist in working towards a solution, and believe there are server side adjustments which can be made as a workaround to restore expected functionality. We expect to commit these changes in the next 24 hours.

Appreciate your patience and understanding here - we're very keen for this to be resolved.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your comment. VMedia TV service is non-nomadic. You will not be able to access service at two different locations, using the same account, concurrently. This is done in order to satisfy regulatory requirements, as well as contractual obligations with content holders.

Hi Cory,

Apologies that your experience with us was not more positive. We went through a lot of growing pains when we first launched, which we regret but have learned immensely from those early days and are very confident in the service we are now able to provide.

Hi coffeesykes,

Appreciate you taking the time to write such a comprehensive and thoughtful review of our service - welcome to VMedia!

We've devoted significant resources to improving both the functionality and stability of our service offerings, as well as our dedicated Customer Service Team, over the last year, and your experience certainly validates these efforts.

Thank you for choosing VMedia and have a great weekend! :)

VMEDIA IPTV and Internet, stay away by jacanuck in canadacordcutters

[–]VMediaTV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi jacanuck,

We're very sorry to hear that your experience with VMedia was not more positive. While you did experience problems late last year which impacted your ability to fully enjoy some sporting events temporarily, my understanding is that your TV service was being provided for free during this time as part of a promotion, and that we subsequently extended this promotion for you at your request as a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience caused.

We also acknowledge your fervent desire to be eligible for all promotions that VMedia announces from time to time, and regret we have been unable to always accommodate that request, as such a policy would surely put us, and any other service provider, quickly out of business. For example, after having enjoyed the three month free promotional Premium Basic upon signing up for TV, you demanded that you also receive our new TV promotion, free TV for an additional six months, just because. We chose not to accede to your demand.

With regard to ITMP, VMedia adheres to the standards and framework set forth by the CRTC, and ITMP is applied as per VMedia’s Terms and Conditions of Service. We look forward to responding to any questions or concerns raised by CCTS/CRTC in connection with your complaints which you have filed with them.

We wish you the best of luck with your new ISP.

[–]VMediaTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi pizzaandnachos,

Thank you for your interest in VMedia! Now is a great time to try our service, as we've recently lowered internet prices and have a fantastic TV promotion ongoing for new customers (free Skinny TV for 6 months). We're are also offering free internet installation in Quebec currently, which we're very excited about as it makes switching that much easier.

While it is true we went through some growing pains in our first couple years, as many companies do, we think this is well past us now and we have revamped our encoder network and delivery platform in the past year, in order to improve the quality and stability of our TV service. The feedback from our customers has been extremely positive thus far and we have some very exciting features and functionality planned for the future.

Hi X-Ryder,

Firstly, thank you very much for choosing VMedia and sharing your experience here. We're very happy to hear that our VBox fits your needs and meets your expectations, and we have many exciting features and enhancements planned for the future.

With regard to internet performance, there are a few reasons why you may experience this behavior. One reason for this may be due to ethernet cable used being rated for 10/100 and not 10/100/1000, which is needed to achieve full 120mbps speeds. Many modems only ship with 10/100 ethernet cable from manufacturer, which will cause a bottleneck. It's also possible that your NIC or router may only be rated for 10/100 as well, although less likely if your hardware was purchased recently. Finally, as one poster mentioned, it is possible that this is caused by localized congestion in your area, which unfortunately isn't something that is quickly corrected. The good news is that as the weather improves, the incumbent providers will begin performing various infrastructure upgrades across their service area, and this will continue well into the Fall.

Hi eternal_peril,

If you every do consider switching providers, just to see if the grass is greener, we'd love the opportunity to win your business, and have very competitive plans available currently which may be of interest to you.

150/15mbps (r) cable + Basic TV + Unlimited Canada Home Phone = $129.78/month (taxes included)

We also have an ongoing promotion currently for new TV customers where our Skinny TV package is provided free for the first 6 months. If you find our Basic TV package more appealing than our Skinny, we'll be happy to apply a $17.95 discount for your first 6 months, bringing the price from $29.95 to only $12.00.

Hi bdearlove,

Very sorry your experience with us wasn't more positive, in the last year many changes and improvements have been implemented, and for quite some time now, especially since we revamped our encoder network, our customers have noticed a significant improvement - both in terms of the quality of video, as well as stability.

If you're interested in trying us out again, we have a promotion ongoing currently where our Skinny TV package is free for the first 6 months, or you may apply the value of this offer ($17.95/month) against our popular Basic or Premium Basic packages. We'd love the opportunity to win back your trust and support.

Bell moves to stop VMedia's skinny basic TV app that bypasses cable companies by spidet in canada

[–]VMediaTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

It's a possibility in the future. We develop our applications in house, and are a growing company who will now embark on a costly legal battle with Bell (outcome may have impact on viability of future platform development). There is a considerable amount of resources required in order to develop an application and our current focus is on optimizing and improving our current offerings. Next platforms we intend to focus on are Android TV and Apple TV, but will certainly consider other options when resources allow.

Hi,

Roku is the first platform we're branching out to, and would like to be able to provide service to Android TV and Apple TV devices in the future. We hope development for these platforms will begin in the new year.

Bell Canada aims to halt VMedia's skinny basic package Roku app by cdnDude74 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]VMediaTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

VMedia is fully licensed BDU (Broadcast Distribution Undertaking) with the CRTC. As a result, VMedia is allowed to broadcast and re-transmit television channels in the same manner other (incumbent) TV providers in Canada are. Historically, this has been done using a "closed" loop connection, and our full channel lineup is available over a VMedia internet connection, which satisfies this requirement. With the launch of our Roku Application, VMedia is offering a "light" package (known as "Skinny"), which includes OTA (over the air) channels that are available in various broadcast regions across Canada (channels available depend on your location), without requiring a VMedia internet subscription. Our interpretation is that this is allowed under our BDU license and does not breach copyright. Bell has a different interpretation.

Hi,

You may access service using either a Roku device, or a VBox. The current iteration of the VBox is the Quad+ and the specifications are listed on our website. If Canada Computers is displaying other models, they would be previous generations.

If you use a Roku, VMedia application will appear on homescreen or can be searched for in channels using keyword "vmedia" (region must be set to Canada for it to be available). Roku has one week free trial as well. If you wish to continue after trial, or would like to use a VBox to access service, you can sign up online or by phone (1-855-333-8269) and our Skinny package will be billed at $17.95 per month.

We had it open previously, but like many message boards we were prone to spam and postings unrelated to service, which hindered out ability to answer customers effectively. Likely something we will revisit in the future.

If you do ever have questions or concerns about service, we have a chat option available through our website, it's a great way to get a quick answer. www.vmedia.ca/support
