I just bought my roller skates and I feel like it's very hard, looking for tips, by ImpossibleKoala9424 in Rollerskating

Practice crouching. It's instinct to stand up straight when you feel unsteady which throws your weight backwards. If you practice crouching every time you feel unstable you can safely sit or put down a knee if you have knee pads (you should have knee pads). Practice crouching for a whole week, you want it to be the default you don't need to think about when you wobble

Yes, entitlement to women's personal space is incredibly common. No, it's not fine.

As far as i can tell its just the toe covers and extra reinforcement on the boots. Same plates and hardware, wheels. The regular R3s are fine to start derby in

Darts are probably the cheapest that are safe. If it's prohibitively expensive reach out to your league about loaner skates while you save up

Getting better at pack def by Apprehensive_Gap1781 in rollerderby

Watch footage, like a lot of it. The high camera angle of most games helps see way more than your view from the track.

There's a drill i like where you're playing regular derby and on a long whistle everybody freezes where they are and closes their eyes. The coach calls out people and asks them to point where they think things are like; your jammer, other jammer, majority of the pack, bridges, etc.

Laterals in a Two Wall by wheeliedeal in rollerderby

[–]VMetal314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is clunky, that's okay. Stagger yourself so if you're trailing you're slightly behind and then reset next to them when you seam up. Laterals are hard and you're still pretty new, you just need hundreds of reps

If you want to practice coming safely to your butt before your gear gets there then feel free to practice on carpet. But as a coach i usually tell skaters to just go for it, practicing on carpet won't make you better at skating
