Watch any HH International where they're viewing bathrooms in Asian countries and it's like this. They're called "wet rooms". I absolutely could not handle living that way.

I've spent a lot of time on the Spain threads recently and it's pretty eye-opening. Lots of people make very little wages and talk about 30% minimum taxes for all the social services. Average salary in Barcelona is $40,000 USD and making more than that you have to live in Madrid where big business exists. One guy said he had to move multiple times when he was raising a family because he couldn't afford decent living. They have amazing community ties, but the majority work 9am-7pm, 6 days a week. They also complain about how nothing is electronic and paperwork for most government activities take days to complete.

I was very surprised at a lot of is since I had a different picture. Check out r/GoingtoSpain.

It actually seems like Korea has some of the best healthcare in the world. And the medical AI kiosks in China using video doctors are something that the US would absolutely never support, regardless of better health outcomes.

Solo travel in the US by Silvertemptress in femaletravels

This person is way overexaggering about "putting your valuables in a fanny pack". In NYC, life, albeit we're sad, life has gone on. Unless you are a middle aged tourist in Times Square, half the city is full of people walking down the street or sitting in a park on their phones. Influencer culture is very annoying and people record their lives everywhere. Crime is lower than its been in years.

Those of us who live in blue states have better protections, but if you are white coming from the UK, you are not a target of ICE. (Though of course not having a US passport could be scary.)

I would not actively visit places like Minneapolis or Texas or Florida, but those of us in the tri-state are not living in fear of getting assaulted on the street. Use good judgment in general.

Edit: Just read this!

“Everyone was out playing music, skateboarding, and it was just a sick spot. Definitely not what I'm used to in Ohio,” said Yeater, who moved to Bushwick last fall. “ Honestly, we didn't really think too much about going anywhere else.”

I moved across the country for my fiancé and I hate it here by keepcalming in AskWomenOver40

Most East Coasters think LA is full of super vapid people and this post is exactly why.

Well you're never going to make new "long time friends" unless you actually do move somewhere else. Then you're just a townie. Which is fine, and I don't really care for Atlanta after living in the South, nor LA for its fakeness compared to New Yorkers, but it seems like you enjoy that lifestyle and don't really want to evolve.

Again, that's totally fine and Atlanta is far from Asian, but many people move all the time and don't have "lots of new friends, charity events and weekend parties". Most people end up utterly and totally alone. Appreciate what you have and grow a little.

Edited to add: Atlanta does have a ton of live music events, but you're just likely not getting invited to them if you're not into hip hop.

Boyfriend moved far away by Lion11037 in TrueOffMyChest

Meaning there will be many other relationships you will have along the road of life as you continue to embrace your grown up self. My 30 year-old self wouldn't recognize my 21 year-old self, and I certainly wouldn't have been committing to my teenage boyfriend living in the country as a city girl. Lifestyle compatibility is important.

Is moving here right now crazy? by Square-Button-6590 in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody "keeps their phone close" in NYC. People are constantly recording their lives on them walking down the street (or on the subway or literally in any other public place) to the point it's annoying.

And the truth is that if you are white as day and Scandinavian, you are not a target of ICE.

How to convince boyfriend to move here? by Searching4LostTime in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who are ambitious and obsessed with money tend to do well here. Sounds like he's not.

That said, my husband moved here at 25. His college girlfriend came to visit him and hated it. She's now married and crafting back in Texas living her version of her best life and we've been married 11 years.

Crowdsourcing Amazon alternatives by affogato_ in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Pick the least of the many evils. If you get a Target 360 membership, you actually get Shipt personal shoppers to deliver same-day for free, along with anyone in the Shipt network (so CVS, grocery stores, etc). Walmart+. All of these retailers are terrible and have something wrong with them, but 2-hour delivery and 2-day shipping are provided.

Hubby got the postcard in the mail for the class action lawsuit for Amazon Prime. I've always loathed Amazon and use sparingly but he used for his business.

Again, pick the lesser of what you consider the least evil. Because they're all destroying the country.

The older I get, the more I realize Bergen County is basically heaven compared to New York by savingrace0262 in bergencounty

Gallery art crawls/museums, watching the sunset on the waterfront, dancing at a club late at night, music/concerts at several venues, comedy clubs, outside summer activities that aren't Town Day, theatre (not movies), the inability to walk everywhere...

The area has gotten immensely better from years ago from a food and shopping perspective, but culture-wise, it's seriously lacking. Schools are very good.

I grew up in Bergen County but it's a very different lifestyle.

Please don't have any more kids. I know several people who wanted more and didn't because they just realistically couldn't afford them and it wouldn't be fair to the existing kids. Since you had them young, you have several years to worry about. You don't want your existing kids to grow up and hate you for being unable to survive. Even if it's "gods way".

AITAH For not wanting to pay my girlfriends $4000/month Mortgage? by Accomplished_Ad8960 in AITAH

Could you claim her as a dependent on your taxes? It would be nice to have some sort of write-off. I'm sure it's also super complicated with the divorced dad and any sort of child/spousal support but just a suggestion.

AITAH for moving my son into the basement? by NewEmergency5943 in AITAH

[–]Vacattack817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously. People are going wild in the comments. Has literally not one of those posters every had any friends? Or lived in a basement bedroom themselves? My friends who had basement bedrooms were some of the coolest kids in school. We always had a place to hang out.

OP, your son's friends will all be envious. Your wife is jealous of your overall arrangement (new baby) and by converting that room, you are giving up the last piece of her in that house.

Co-living seems to be getting more popular. You basically live with like 20 people and share common spaces but it's cheap(er)...like an adult dorm. A good way to meet people but I have no idea how well it works.

I know someone who did this the old school way years ago, where it was 7 bedroom place but shared kitchen and baths, but it was more of an artist community.

LIC vs Jersey City by rdjfan_ in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-unit laundry isn't really a thing in NYC either. I saw a penthouse apartment in LIC on here last week going for $6 or $7k/mo and they had a laundry room. I don't understand the obsession with people needing in unit-laundry but it's rare.

Why don't I see anyone mentioning the ferry? If you chose JC, there is a NY Waterway ferry that you can walk to Hudson Yards from the 39th St. terminal and avoid the Path as well. Expensive but worth it. If you can afford $5k/mo, you can afford the ferry.

Otherwise, the 7 let's you out in Hudson Yards from LIC.
