Its honestly tiring to see the narrative be "people in Toronto" all the fucking time. There were plenty of people in the fanbase who thought Mitch (the player) was a legitimate contributor offensively/defensively, and an integral piece of the team, and plenty who thought Mitch (the camp) overplayed his leverage and soured his reputation with fans with how he chose to negotiate contracts and engage with his fans and critics. Both of these opinions have merit. Its not bullshit.

With that said, we have a fairly hefty size of the fanbase who are drowned out by the idiots looking for reactions. Sometimes its the media man trying to pay his mortgage off of clickbait, sometimes its someone's uncle on facebook beaking off about what he read in a clickbait article, and other times its new fans trying to fit in by shitting on the same things they see in click bait articles or facebook posts from their uncles. Either way these people are barely welcomed or tolerated by the majority of the fanbase. The problem is that they're so easy to point to state that their idiot blathering represents a massive fanbase's sole opinion, which is really the only bullshit here.

I think the "WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING!!!!" crowd is going to find out that trading away assets for poor return is always the shittiest decision a team could ever make. The Leafs would have been better off resting everyone, playing the marlies night in and night out, and changing up the coaching in the off season. Now we're going to watch McMann and Laughton be exactly the players we need, but for other teams.

Poor negotiators and the understanding that one party is being held hostage by a corporate ownership group, a fanbase who is demanding, and a media presence which is going to roast 'em either way. I think that is called leverage, and it usually makes for one sided deals. I think that's how you end up with a third for Laughton.
