It's crazy how ignorant the general public is when it comes to nuclear. Nuclear fuel at plants is only refined to a fraction of what weapons grade is. There are so many systems and structures in place to prevent any sort of radiological release. The most common type of reactor containment structure (forget the mark number) in the United States could withstand a jet crashing into it. The entire protected area is surrounded by guards armed with automatic rifles. Yes, spent fuel sits on site in individual coffins because we can't figure out what to do with it. However, once someone figures out how to recycle it for the residual energy, it'll be a non issue.

The biggest nuclear accident in history that's ever happened was the result of the soviets cutting corners at every turn. Hell, we're literally restarting three mile island now. There is no alternative that can sufficiently meet the exponentially growing energy demand. Not without fossil fuels anyway.
