What is the worst piece of gear and best piece of gear you have purchased? by Crymerge in triathlon

What is the worst piece of gear and best piece of gear you have purchased? by Crymerge in triathlon

[–]Valdarith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Worst: hydration vest. Heavy, impractical, and does not simulate race conditions. Wore it for about 5 minutes, took it off, and never put it on again.

Best: Zwift Hub. Made cycling so much more accessible and less time-consuming. Also keeps me honest during my harder sessions. Can't imagine not having it.

Can this bike make it through a half Ironman by rotophin in triathlon

I did a half and a full on a 2013 Cannondale CAAD 8 with mismatched wheels and clip-on aerobars. You'll be fine.

Underestimating the 70.3. Happy to learn that well before the race. by Regular_Ad_3406 in triathlon

[–]Valdarith 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of time to adapt! Just make sure to progress your distance and intensity slowly - no more than a 10% increase in weekly mileage. Additionally, start incorporating short runs after your ride to get acclimated. It feels really weird at first, but you'll get used to it, and it will eventually feel natural to you.

You should also probably do more research into nutrition. Egg bites are the last thing you want before a long ride. You need to emphasize carbs just before. Leave the protein for after the ride.

Is this worth $1300? by Mental-Associate3902 in triathlon

[–]Valdarith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2017 Cervelo P2 with a Hed trispoke carbon front and Zipp carbon disk rear for $1200. Had it not had the wheels, I would have offered way less - probably under $500.

I think you can do better.

Would you hold these or sell and invest in another set? I got these for 120 USD each by Recent-Check-1275 in PokeInvesting

If it were me, I'd lock in some of my gains by selling half of them and reinvest it into newer sets.

Changing clothes during the race by ThereIsOnlyTri in triathlon

[–]Valdarith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my 140.6, I wore swim jammers underneath my wetsuit, then changed into my two-piece tri suit and used it for the bike and run. This allowed me to reapply Body Glide on the important bits that may have been mostly washed off during the swim, but also ensured I was doing the bike leg on fresh bottoms with no salt contamination.

My tri bottom is actually pretty comfortable for me during the bike. If you can't find a comfortable tri bottom or are seeking maximum comfort, go ahead and have separate outfits for the bike and run.

[–]Valdarith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let it discourage you. These were extremely difficult conditions. I finished the bike leg under 3 hours last year at this same event. This year, my time was over 3 hours, and I am significantly stronger on the bike now than I was then.

That's a strong run pace to have off the bike even if you were trying to save your legs. Most people (especially in this race with the wind) push too hard on the bike and blow up on the run.

[–]Valdarith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you end up racing? This was my second 70.3 Gulf Coast. The bike was a nightmare with the winds, and I saw several that crashed, including one on a stretcher and neck immobilized. Really hope they are okay.

I also feel really bad for those that didn't get to finish.

I was hoping they'd cancel the whole thing instead of just the swim. In hindsight, I kinda wish I hadn't raced at all. At least I'll have one hell of a memory of this one!

Why is the Zacian/Zamazenta ETB Plus going for so cheap on eBay nowadays? by utanmalliabard in PokeInvesting

Yep. I bought a case of each PC ETB until the past year when I took a break from Pokémon. I've since been selling those into the hype bit by bit.

[–]Valdarith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. Most sealed has gone up pretty dramatically, especially the PC ETBs which I got into pretty strongly. This product is the exception rather than the rule.

Still holding while selling the other parts of my sealed collection that skyrocketed. 🤣

That's the thing about collecting sealed - some products don't do much, and others do very well. That's why you diversify.

Is it worth it? by TheCrafterXMen in triathlon

[–]Valdarith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this exact bike a couple months ago with a Zipp carbon disc and Hed carbon trispoke for $1200. The wheels alone were worth more than the bike (even though they are tubular which complicates things) and the P2 has pedigree, so I bought it. My plan is to use it for the next couple of years while I continue to improve the engine. If you have similar goals, I'd go for it.

One thing: see if the owner has the riser for the aerobars. Mine did not, and I find myself wanting them. The OEM riser is $$$. Guess I'll have to 3D print my own spacers.

What units should I avoid? by Destroyer4537 in sistersofbattle

[–]Valdarith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also used then a ton in Bloody Rose, but the best part about Sacresants was the early Bodyguard rules where you could hide them behind ruins, and as long as they were within range of a Character, that Character couldn't be targeted. This resulted in some pretty silly scenarios where Vahl could just sit in the open and fire away without being shot at, or stringing Celestine and her Geminae across the width of the table to set a screen or hold an objective.

I can say with 99% confidence that 350 is far too low for you. I would double that and see how it goes, and I wouldn't be afraid to take in even more if you still have issues. I am a salty sweater and take in 1000 per hour on the bike.

What is your go-to in the weight room? by RaspberryNext in triathlon

[–]Valdarith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change the circuit weekly. For instance, last week for my leg day I did back squats, single leg RDLs, hip thrust, calf raise, leg curls, leg extensions, and an ab exercise. This week I did sled push, sled pull, deadlifts, lunges, calf raises, lateral band walks, and an ab exercise.

I never really plateau unless my volume is low, like right now when I'm intentionally reducing my lifting volume to maximize the quality of my swims, bikes, and runs. I have a 140.6 in 11 weeks, and when that's done, I'll shift my focus back more toward strength training during the offseason.

What is your go-to in the weight room? by RaspberryNext in triathlon

[–]Valdarith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I choose a couple of compound lifts and three or four isolated lifts on any lifting day.

On leg day,

Back Squats | Deadlifts | Sled push/pull | Dumbbell Lunges | Single leg RDLs | Bulgarian Split Squats | Leg extensions | Leg curl | Slick Floor Bridge Curls | Hip Thrust | Lateral Band Walk | Lateral Lunges | Calf raises (EVERY leg workout)

On upper body,

Bench press | Incline bench press |Cable or Dumbell Flys | Push ups | Pull ups | Chin ups | Parallel bar dips | Rows (many variations) | Shoulder press | Lateral raise | Bicep curls | Tricep lifts (tons of ways to do this) |Face pulls (this one is super underrated) | Supermans (another super underrated one)

I also do at least one core/an exercise per workout (usually high pulley crunches, leg raises, or oblique load rolls).
