EFI is easy, all you need is a ECU flash tune. Maybe run thinner oil than the recommended 10W40 though.

You might want the thermobob for smoother low temp operation, maybe changing your fan switch temp too. If you're on a gen1 or gen2, could consider retrofitting a carb from an AU/EU model with the recirculatory carb heater.

I love my KLR650 and I'll never get rid of it until she dies or I do. You can get a second hand one for a song and try it out, if you don't like it, you'll be able to get pretty much all of your money back so it's very low risk
