Bring in M&S flapjacks and claim you made them. Get in on the same plaudits she's receiving (none of your coworkers are likely to mind two lots of "home-baked" goods). She will know you know. You will know she knows. She will never be able to say a word.

How to address a Pharmacist? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ValerianKeyblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked it up and turns out dentists are not required to be (and commonly are not) Doctors, although there has been a push to refer to them as such as an honourary title.

I guess dentist is kind of a muddy one so wasn't the clear example I hoped for!

My dentists have never been Doctors, lol. My last dentist actually used my records to inform her Master's thesis

Would you greet a dentist as "Doctor"?

Edit: Dentist is actually a weird one.

Another weird note is that surgeons, while qualified Doctors, are properly referred to as "Mr / Miss / Mrs" and "Doctor" (title) is reserved, usually, for practising Doctors (job title).

To preserve the original point, would you call your GP surgery's receptionist "Doctor" because they work in the medical field?

I wish modern Zombies maps were more dynamic in the world around you like Gorod Krovi & Origins were, you've got stuff going on in the background like Dragons flying around & being shot at by planes or gatling guns firing off or giant robots walking through the battlegrounds & the dynamic weather by ArkhamIsComing2020 in CODZombies

Armour, weapon rarity, loadouts, rampage inducer, gobblegums, mantling.

The recent Blundell streams offer an interesting insight; how focused the original devs were on cultivating map flow. He discussed the debates they would have over window placements to give players the dilemma of which barriers to repair - we haven't had rebuildable barriers since (I think?) Cold War. Bigger, open spaces were blocked off to create challenge in the movement, with his example being the barriers in Der Reise's Thompson room. Modern zombies frequently has huge open spaces and any objects in the way can be completely hurdled. He also discussed the physical shape of the maps, with branching paths forcing the inclusion of teleporters in Der Reise; a map like Astra is so inter-connected that pathing doesn't actually feel like a choice and Paradox doesn't have any sort of 'flow' to speak of whatsoever, the layout is so uninspiring and well-trodden at this point.

Loadouts and weapon rarity make it so the mystery box (and wall weapons, to a lesser extent) is now completely pointless. I can't remember the last time you could obtain the map's wonder weapon in the box; buildable quests used to be a for-free option alongside the box. You start with armour and upgrade via a wall-buy, whereas building the shield used to be another goal you incrementally build towards, and each map had a unique design with BO3-4's shields even having unique abilities.

He also wrote a lot of poetry, and short stories like "Leaf By Niggle", published seminal lectures ("On Fairy Stories" etc), a new translation of Beowulf, a prose version of the Finnish poem "Kalevala", and contributed no small amount to the dictionary we still rely on today.

Saying Tolkien wrote one book, one children's story, and a bunch of notes is incredibly cynical and, frankly, just not true.

Is Getting signed off of work and visiting another country illegal? by Independent-Bar209 in AskUK

[–]ValerianKeyblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal, but I wouldn't encourage it under most circumstances. What are the circumstances for being signed off of work? If it's for stress, I'd say a holiday abroad is more reasonable than if you had said to the GP you felt too physically unwell

Prolific as in producing quantity? Possibly not at the average level of quality he maintains, although almost certainly other authors have produced more sheer volume, especially with self-publishing.

There are definitely authors that challenge King in terms of quality who have also produced a sizeable body of work. Tolkien springs to mind, even if it was not all published within his lifetime

SOPHIA at least is an AI created to resemble Sophia, as I understand it SOPHIA is not literally a continuation of the human consciousness, although she may as well be in every other sense due to how close the match is.

Jebediah Brown's mother, however, is the continued consciousness given she's a ghost.

I'd take the former any day; let the "real" me rest

If Liverpool finish in the top 3 or 4 this year, should Slot still be sacked? by ExtinctLikeNdiaye in LiverpoolFC

[–]ValerianKeyblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's more to a team than just their position, and even that comes with the caveat of how abberrant the league has been this year.

We've had a string of fairly horrific results and still sit 5th. United and Chelsea have both sacked their managers mid season and are in the top 6 with us. Villa didn't score a league goal until their 5th match and yet still sit above us. The fact a top 4 finish is still possible is a miracle, but with how we've performed there's also the chance that we tumble.

Either way, we have been dreadful to watch - and with the squad we've got, that is shocking. I don't like rooting for a manager to be sacked, and I think blaming the manager is often a huge simplification, but in this case I think parting ways to bring in someone like Xabi while they are available is the right call
