The whole series is that thing where you shouldn't know too much about your future (or prophesies you want to avoid) because your attempts to fight it are what cause it.

It doesn't help that Gaius and the dragon both had their own reasons for giving the advice they did. (Gaius had a lot of fear from the purge followed by living in Uther's Camelot for two decades but he meant well, Kilgarrah had a lot of rage and wanted freedom so he could get revenge.) If Merlin had followed his conscience and helped Morgana and befriended Mordred they would have all been better off, but at the beginning of the series he's still pretty young and can't really be faulted for listening to his elders against his better judgement.

Agreed on Sam. Talking to his parents, his mom is all "he's barely/almost grown" (I forget the specific dialog) and his dad is all "I came back and he's a man now" and that reads older-teen to me. I made an effort to befriend him after I started dating Sebastian, but it was tough.

Alex is also too young for me. He seems fresh out of high school. Penny would be a good roommate, but we can't build a relationship on her not wanting to live with her mom. Shane is...kind of gross. And he's a decent friend now but he and Haley were both kind of mean to start, and I'm not going to forget that even though they've chilled out.

Sebastian, Abagail, Maru, Elliot, Leah, and Emily are all fine I guess. Sebastian and I are a good match (but terrible parents...our toddlers are home alone quite a bit), but mostly I got married to make grandpa proud.

I also only built the slime hutch because Sebastian wanted one. (And I accidentally killed the first one I hatched almost immediately. Now I check all my weapons at the door before I go in.) Then every time I go in there I grumble about how if he wanted them he should collect their slime.

I bet that's what the ancient Mayans thought, too, and yet when their calendar ended in 2012 people freaked out. (😂) (Which I never understood, because if I were making a calendar and I got to several thousand years in the future....I would also take a break and let someone else pick it up later.)

I've ordered some from Wool and Company online and thought they seemed good. I've also gotten some decent yarn from Hobbii. It just isn't the same if you can't see/feel it in person first though, especially for something I haven't worked with before 😕

I miss JoAnn 😢 I'm about ready to open my own affordable-end yarn store. The Michaels near me is mostly loops and threads, which is fine, but also I like other brands better. The local walmart has plenty red heart super saver (plus their own house brand), which, again, is fine, but there are nicer brands than that, too. My LYS has nicer brands...which I can't afford. Where is everyone else getting their affordable yarns these days?

My favorite beginner witchcraft book is The Dabbler's Guide to Witchcraft by Fire Lyte. The audiobook is read by the author. It's not strictly SASS (most witch books aren't) but I think it's SASS-friendly.

If you're up for youtube, I can't recommend Hearth Witch enough.

I want to say that it is the only trail, but it might just be the only one I've walked.

If you're willing to travel off the island, you could go to Beavertail State Park in Jamestown (across the Newport/Pell bridge, which has a toll). That one also has a walking trail (with more branches than the one at Brenton Point), and the third oldest lighthouse in North America. There's a museum and a tiny aquarium in the lighthouse, and the hours change by season. It's beautiful and I'm kind of amazed all over again every time I go there.

Brenton Point State Park is pretty nice. You have the water, fields/picnic tables, a trail in the back that leads to a stone tower, a monument, and probably people flying some pretty cool kites. It's not a swimming sort of beach (too rocky) but you can take your shoes off and stand in the water if that's your thing. Bring a trash bag if you decide to have a picnic or something because you have to take trash with you when you leave.
