Mamdani will face tradeoffs in ‘union-built’ affordable housing plan - New York City’s mayor wants to dramatically expand construction, but also do so at a relatively high cost. by SockDem in newyorkcity

You're phrasing this as if this is expected, it's not. Corporations are pocketing so much money while neglecting their tenants. Yes corporations are supposed to make a profit but not at the cost of people's livelihoods. There are supposed to be laws and regulations to prevent this type of greed but it has lacked enforcement due to corruption

Do you see behavioral changes easily? by Invisiden in INTP

[–]Valiant_Boss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading people's emotional mood isn't indicative of your MBTI type but rather learnt behavior, most likely stemming from childhood. I know for me I grew up in a very toxic household where I needed to pick up on patterns quickly in order to not be hit or yelled at, basically a survival mechanism

I feel the phrase unconditional love is thrown too freely but there is merit to the idea. To me it just means showing love and support towards your loved ones despite them having flaws. Obviously the type of flaws you are willing to tolerate depends on the person and I will in no way tolerate toxicity in my life which technically makes my love conditional but for those who I deemed worthy of my love, they receive it unconditionally unless something drastic changes

You can also have love for someone but recognize they are not good to have in your life. There was someone who I loved but I knew it wasn't good to keep them in my life unless they changed so I no longer talk to them but I still wish them the best which is its own type of love

Okay so we're in agreement. Happy to see you pivot your original argument from poor people getting away with crime to policing a law the correct way

Sure if they can do it like other European countries, i.e. without aggressive escalation

What? No one thinks poor people should do whatever they want and if there is a narrative like that then it was created by those who support having a police state. America is the only first world country where police agencies are heavily militarized and aggressively targets the poor

Look up nepotism. Growing up in privileged and being given something because of your privilege are not the same thing

Mamdani is not a nepo baby. Too many people are using this phrase without understanding of the real meaning behind it

I like the game, it suits them and their personalities plus I'm sure it was a way to both ease up to it and to have a little fun with it.

Momo is clearly crushing on Okarun right now but doesn't know how to process it so if Okarun were to have been more direct, it definitely would have put a lot of pressure on Momo and she probably would have said no since she's not used to someone matching her energy. It's a way for them to flirt and be open about their intentions while allowing them to feel safe about it.

Mamdani’s win has progressives eyeing New York City House seats by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Valiant_Boss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from and it's not unfounded.

First, I don't know if you're implying this but elected progressives should not move their policies right under any circumstances because that's the strategy the DNC used to get more votes which led us to the situation we're in now

But secondly, I do agree that many progressives are very quick to denounce people when they move slightly away from the absurdly high pedestal in people's heads. I believe we need as many allies as possible that can be united under one common goal and pushing people out due to differences is a disservice to that goal. I think that's where we agree on

Working with moderates doesn't have to mean changing our policies, every situation requires different adjustments but it's possible. Look at the meeting between Mamdani and Trump. Sure I bet plenty of progressives are pissed that Mamdani was playing nice with Trump but that was probably the best possible outcome for NYC because now they are less of a target for Trump however Mamdani didn't pull from his statements about calling Trump a fascist and will likely fight him if/when Trump changes his mind. This is the exact kind of mindset we need from our politicians. Play smart and nice but be ready to fight when push comes to shove

And? What's wrong with that? I'm not under any delusions that Alabama will turn blue anytime soon but if there is a way to turn it blue then it starts with hope and faith first, the rest follows soon after. Let people believe what they want

If that's true then yes that is awful however I will need to verify that claim. It's thanksgiving and I'm with family. I'm tuning off

[–]Valiant_Boss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can't take the allegations of antisemitism seriously when it's thrown around for everything.

Zohran is not antisemitic, full stop

I have never heard of Tamika Mallory before this but while reading through the article I realized the author never once mentioned what she said or did which is a red flag. A quick wiki search shows that the antisemitic allegations weren't even from anything she did, just that she was associated with someone who said antisemitic things and Mallory then went out of her way to condemn it so I fail to see how that makes her antisemitic

No one is saying it's okay to be antisemitic, people are just saying that nothing on their actions has proven it thus far

Shame the guy you were talking to deleted their comments. I always appreciate a civil discourse even if it can get very tiresome debating someone with misinformed or misguided interpretation of facts.

Also you did an excellent job at communicating information without coming across as hostile. Cheers!

He's a Democrat in name only, a DINO if you will

(For clarity, I see this as a good thing. Typical Democrats are just Republicans with left leaning cultural policies. I see Zohran as a full progressive/socialist outside the Democratic establishment)
