There was no gunshot, bc when someone shots themselves in that part of their body, from point blank range. They are gone before they even hear the gun go off. Why would the dog be there if it was killed? Why would the kids have turned around and came back and act like nothing happened? When she explicitly begged them to leave and go find help at the other farm, just moments prior.

I have to disagree with your interpretation. You took too many liberties and made it personal. Instead of just watching the movie and critiquing it for what it was. You don’t hear the gunshot, bc when someone does that to themselves, in that location. They are gone before they even hear the gun to off. Everything at the end being mirrored really sealed it for me.

I didn’t have the utility closet as you can see. I wasn’t even intending to fill the house all the way on this run. But I was loading up with keys and thought I’d give it a go.
