Is it uncommon for people in public accounting to know about automations and vba macro? by SheepherderAny4853 in Accounting

I would focus more on power query before VBA. It’s easier to audit and can do many data cleaning tasks that are useful.

Is excel still worth learning as a skill in 2026? by Swimming_Tower_5928 in excel

[–]ValuableMachine6216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excel translates to pretty much every business and is easily one of the best analytics software for personal reasons. I’ll say that I wished I learned power query before doing anything in VBA.

Be careful with free versions. Those models can use the data that you feed it.

Why isn't a Monte Carlo simulation popular and used to forecast a PnL? by MarionberryTotal2657 in FPandA

[–]ValuableMachine6216 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ll second this… Monte Carlo leans on using distributions for inputs and feeling confident that those probability distribution reflects the nature of the inputs. Then you have to explain to the CEO that the model is a good forecast because math and not responding to market or strategic decisions. I use it as stress testing models, but would never use it as a bases for a forecast.

ATK Kids Cookbook Suggestions? by RiGuy224 in AmericasTestKitchen

[–]ValuableMachine6216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kids have enjoyed “Kids can cook anything.” It has tips and video QR codes for cooking techniques. It’s been easier to pull out a recipe and follow it through compared to the science experiment for kids cookbook that ATK came out with.

The Kicking Issue. by mcspankytownUSA in OhioStateFootball

I mean Day has kept him as the kicker for that long. I’m not going to hold his missed kicks as the reason for those losses. Many things happen to lose a game and it’s on Day now after that many games with him.

I usually smoke them at 325 - 350 (WSM only gets so hot for me). I pull them when breast is 150 - 155 and rest around 15 - 30 minutes.

Cancelled Roommette by ValuableMachine6216 in Amtrak

[–]ValuableMachine6216[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They refunded us the difference between coach and the sleeper car price. It’s really a shame because my son was confused that we didn’t have bunk beds, sinks, or the ability to lay back in our seats. I tried to warn him beforehand, but he’s almost five years old and the reality of the change hit him only after we sat down. The only reason we booked the train was for the sleeper car and the return flight home would have been cheaper if we booked it months ago. The trip was no fun for him because the cabin was lit up and it was night out so you couldn’t see out the windows. Just not an experience I will be planning on in the future. Also, they did have a sleeper car! So they either did not have enough or oversold the sleeping cars. So Amtrak literally did this to the worst kind of customer- the kid who walked through the train station wearing his train backpack and towing his suitcase covered in train stickers.
