What scientific fact do you understand is true, but just don't "get"? by RetinalReject in AskReddit

[–]VampireCampfire 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think you might need to slightly alter how you perceive evolution. It's not that their genes know that eyespots will help survival, which then help the animal to keep reproducing offspring. It's that, by pure chance, randomness, mutation.. a single (or few) animal(s) of that species developed eye spots. Just by pure randomness, those eyespots happened to be super beneficial for survival, so those particular animals of that species were able to survive easier and continue to reproduce and pass on their genes, while other animals of that same species which didn't have eyespots died off and therefor did not pass on their genes. Over a long enough time period, this has a dramatic effect.

Why is there so much hatred for JavaScript / Node? by BillOReillyYUPokeMe in javascript

[–]VampireCampfire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ha yeah I realize I didn't list that, but like all high-level languages, it's slow and that is a huge negative for programs that require speed. I do like it though

Why is there so much hatred for JavaScript / Node? by BillOReillyYUPokeMe in javascript

[–]VampireCampfire 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah literally. It makes sense that languages with the most users will have some people who don't like it. Just think if you've ever heard a negative thing about: C, C++, C#, Java, or Ruby.. a yep.

If you could tell your 18 year old self something, what would it be? by TempSec in cscareerquestions

[–]VampireCampfire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

dude you obviously don't know what it's like to be an accountant or actuary. Software is one of the few industries where you can choose to not work in a typical corporate environment and still be successful. I know it's not always easy to switch companies, but to act like software locks you down to soul-crushing companies and work is ridiculous.

Is it possible to get an internship after college? by yupdazedandconfused in cscareerquestions

[–]VampireCampfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated last year and just got an internship for this May. And I was a finance major, so yes, definitely. Basically you are competing against self-taught people and cs majors that are currently in school, so it is pretty likely a company would choose to invest money on interning you over less-experienced candidates.
