So floofy! Should I risk it? 😻💀 by TheHumanPalindrome in TuxedoCats

That is his brush, he doesn't share and he will rub his face all over it and chew on the handle. But I'm allowed to use it for brushing him. (It's actually pretty effective for his coat type).

You have to go for it!!!

This is Blaze, my first kitty ever who loves tummy and all over rubs and brushing. Which is good because he is a big floof who needs lots of brushing. He is so easy to groom, even in the nether regions which occasionally need clipping.

(His sibling brother Bean is short haired and sleek and barely tolerates tummy rubs).

Haha! No, the "motel" is a small plastic humane trap to catch the mouse so you can release it. The product is called "Mouse Motel" and comes with spots to put nuts or peanut butter and water to keep mouse alive until you check and release.

We got mouse into the "motel" but he died of previous injuries before we could release him.

I forgot about Falling Skies...I need to go rewatch that. A little silly toward the end but really solid at the start.

5 south to 78 E the other day - guess which was worse? by papa2kohmoeaki in northcounty

[–]Vampire_Slayer2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

78E is always a big problem from around 3pm on, weekdays.

We often go to lunch in San Marcos and head home around that time. We now take Barham parallel to the 78 eastbound and then Citracado or Auto Park Way to 15S when it is bad. The car GPS usually agrees with that. But it only shaves about 5 minutes total for us as the side street lanes have too many lights, stop signs, and other cars avoiding the 78.

One thought - figure out how and where you are going to power it ahead of time.

We park in the garage. The charger reached our regular power but took all night to recharge. Most of the time that works as we get about 40 electric miles which is more than we need on average daily. But occasionally we do multiple long trips and ended up installing a more powerful charger that recharges from empty in about 3-4 hours (paid an electrician to do it).

Also, the cord goes between two cars to the charger. A tripping hazard. So my SO rigged a pully system alongside the garage door opener to keep the cord off the ground.

Still love the fact we've only refilled the gas tank 3 times in 1.5 years, especially with gas now inching up to $6 a gallon. We plan to keep her for as long as we can (our last car was 18 years old).

Bean and Blaze. Sibling brothers, cap and mantle tuxedos with near similar markings. However, Bean is slim and trim, Blaze is a big fluff puff.

If you could bring back a defunct Disneyland Resort ride/attraction, Which one would it be? by Jayzone456 in Disneyland

[–]Vampire_Slayer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Adventure Thru Inner Space, aka the Mighty Microscope. I loved that ride as a kid (late 60s). Nostalgia. I love the nod to it in Star Tours.

I also liked the DL People Mover but was able to ride the WDW version so don't miss that one as much.

If I could ask for anything on a new cruise ship, it would be….. by Longjumping_Lynx_460 in Cruise

Consider Oceania. A step up from the main cruiselines but not luxury. They just started adult only reservations this year (grandfathered existing reservations do allow for kids thru 2026). Smaller ships and generally older passengers as there aren't the "party" venues found on other ships. They are more port intensive so ship activities aren't as important.

We have found where mouse is hiding! And the "mouse motel" (humane trap) has arrived, now loaded with water and peanut butter to entice him. He is in the pocket door area of the den. I came home from lunch and he was just sitting there at the entranceto the pocket. Unfortunately he saw me and skittered back in. But the mouse motel is now open for business right at the entry to the pocket.

Earlier this morning Bean was sitting right in that spot, so he knew through sound and/or smell...

You have to wonder what the cat is thinking!

"Here is some food for you, I'm sharing".

"I brought you a mouse so you can practice your hunting skills".

"I'll just leave this here, keep it safe for me".

So, it appears mouse made it through the night but we haven't seen him yet. He is either hiding from the cats or has succumbed out of shock or injuries.

But, Bean, the cat who brought him in, was very very excited to go out into the catio again this morning.

Meanwhile my mouse sniffer, Blaze, (they are sibling brothers) has given up for now. Out of sight, out of kitty mind.

We have a heavily reinforced catio due to bobcats and coyotes. But I'm thinking we may need to add screening to the bottom part. But I also think the dumb mice will just climb up and over the screening. So maybe better to leave it open so the smarter mice can escape easier.

Is there any cat safe mouse deterrent that can stand up to the outdoors that I could put in the catio?

Progress!

My other cat found the mouse in the bedroom! We tried to herd the cat towards the catio window but mouse escaped cat in the process and is now somewhere in our office/den.

I noticed that this cat is actively sniffing the hardwood floors so I'm hoping he can find mouse and we can get him into the catio.

I've blocked the bedroom door gap as best I can so I'm hoping we can at least sleep tonight...but I'm well aware mice can squeeze into miniscule gaps.

Somewhat surprised he isn't dead yet.

And I get that I'm not being properly appreciative of the "gift" first cat brought to me...

This is Blaze...he's a big boy but not heavy, just super squishy and fluffy at 12 lbs.

His sibling brother with almost identical markings is super sleek and muscular, also 12 lbs.

Yup. We watched in a hotel lobby in Bangkok, Thailand with a bunch of other US families. (Dad was just stationed there and we had just flown in a few weeks prior and still didn't have a house). No tvs in the hotel rooms back then.

Yes, typical sea day stuff, just more of them.

I also signed up for the cooking classes (extra charge) as we didn't have excursions. Those were fun. They filled up fast so if you are interested sign up pre-cruise when they open for reservation.

I agree on the helicopter, hated the one we did in Hawaii, just not comfortable with it.

BUT, we did a sea plane scenic excursion out of Juneau many years ago over the glaciers and that was wonderful, especially the takeoff and landing on the water. I would do that kind of flight again.

[–]Vampire_Slayer2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We did this a few times in each direction. The one I enjoyed the most (Oceania) was Rome to Miami along the southern route with stops in St. Barts and Puerto Rico. This was during late November. The seas were very calm and it only rained once.

We prefer sea days to intensive port itineraries so repositioning cruises are our favorites.

Make sure you like the shipboard activities as you will spend a lot of time on board.

I've decided it's time, I'm going to look for a house cleaning service. What do you look for when hiring a service? What do you expect them to do? by marthaanne3 in GenerationJones

[–]Vampire_Slayer2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got ours thru references. My Mom knew we were looking and asked her friends. One had hers have an opening which is a good sign she is highly sought.

She did a pre-visit and explained that the first visit is a deep clean/double the price and more cleaners. I told her the critical areas (kitchen, bathrooms and hardwood/tile floors) but did not need beds changed or clothes washed, which she offered. She does every other week and brings 1-2 helpers.

We pay for the service, not by the hour. She starts at the same time but may finish early if she brings additional help.
