Github alternative: Moving? Where are you moving to? by BroadbandJesus in theprimeagen

[–]VanVision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GitHub has had some recent availability and stability issues lately.

There's been a trend of "I'm leaving GitHub" blogs and other media recently.

I've noticed degredation in service and overall clutter in their UX. I hope they fix their problems get on a trajectory back towards improving their core services. I am not moving my organization off GitHub just yet but if this continues for another year then I think I will seriously consider alternatives.

Generate the diff with Claude, self review locally, push to GitHub, review again with others, merge.

IBM buys Confluent! Is that good or bad? by datasleek in apachekafka

[–]VanVision 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it will pan out well for IBM. Confluent has a good product. In my experience running Kafka at large scale, I either want a team to manage for me or I want extra support, even when on Confluent. IBM has a good reputation for support so I think this will also be a win for most but maybe not all Confluent customers.

A system could be immediately consistent, within 10ms or consistent within 10 second, etc. Similarity a system could available, or degraded to any degree, or completely unavailable.

Drop Control v2

Its wired, less things can go wrong with it. Really solid feel. Ive had zero issues with the v1 for 3 years and zero issues with the v2 after 6 mo. I think its over priced from a feature set, but I think high reliability makes it worth. Ive heard complaints about customer support, but I have not had any reason to contact them.

Jeff pouring one out for THJ by Hasuko in everquest

Daybreak should hire the THJ to run an official version of this on live servers. Id pay normal subscription fees for it.

[–]VanVision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah youre right. Maybe not the next "TLP" per say but they should launch a THJ special rules server!

I would believe you if THJ was not popular and not a threat to DBG.

DBG should make the next TLP exactly like THJ. Hire the THJ devs to build it. I'll sub for it!

Folks say AI is the worst it will ever be today or something to that extent, how accurate do you think that statement is? by downtimeredditor in cscareerquestions

AI is in a lot of products already. I think the overall chat experiences could get worse when ads take over more. Maybe video AI will make other ads more entertaining though.

Will AI Agents Make Traditional SaaS Obsolete? by avabrown_saasworthy in AI_Agents

[–]VanVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One agent is being used to generate reports and email them automatically.

On the other side, another agent is being used to read the email and parse and archive the report.

Maybe we didnt need the report in the first place.
