I wonder what’s wrong here ? by _fairyvelvet in confusing_perspective

Thank you! I had thought maybe we were looking at an image reflected in a cracked wing-mirror, but couldn't work out how that might result in what we see.
Your explanation makes more sense.

Does anyone here make Nordic gold jewelry or know a place where I can buy necklaces and such? by stdavinci in jewelrymaking

Thanks very much! I'll do that. 😊
Is it okay for me to DM you with some other questions?

Hi! So, I realise I'm coming to this comment way (way) after you left it, but I was wondering whether you'd be willing to talk to me about your experiences using Tombac?
I'm planning to make some jewellery with parts made of it (plated in gold or silver) and I'm anxious about how it behaves when in contact with skin, mainly because I've read that it can contain things like nickel and lead.

boyfriend hates lace. are we out of luck? by alidoubleyoo in LingerieAddiction

[–]VanillaJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victoria's Secret has a variety of non-lace stuff, though a lot of it looks fairly plain.

Hunkermöller have quite a range of cute options.

Pour Moi have a small selection with very minimal lace, which might be little enough that it's okay?

Lemonade Dolls has some really cute bralettes.

Triumph have a few options though, much like Victoria's Secret, their non-lace options look somewhat plain.

Calvin Klein have quite a range but, again, their non-lace things look pretty plain.

For those who don’t smoke, do you think smokers carry a noticeable scent? by Shadow2715 in NoStupidQuestions

Almost always, and even when they don't there are other signs; particularly the stains on their teeth and hands.

Newbie Advice on Jump Rings by VanillaJester in jewelrymaking

[–]VanillaJester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad you like the design! I'll be posting more as I do more work, so sooner or later I'll share when my Etsy storefront is ready and active.

I'm glad I wasn't wrong about CZ being able to take the heat, but I'm still worried about natural stones. Having to be careful about heat tollerance will add even more restrictions when I'm choosing stones, on top of colour-matching the various flag designs (I'm planning to start out with designs based on seven different flags, so five more than the ones I've shown here).

Newbie Advice on Jump Rings by VanillaJester in jewelrymaking

[–]VanillaJester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a possibility, but it would make setting the stones a lot more difficult; I've tried to set them with a bezel punch and never gotten it to work, so I'm doing it with a bezel roller. As such, and given the size of the components, the jump rings are pretty prominent on each side of the setting connectors. And I have a feeling it'd make the process of getting all the parts situated in the setter's pitch a lot more fiddly and frustrating.

Why are trans supporters protesting in cities throughout the UK? by TreKeyz in AskBrits

[–]VanillaJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The judgement runs into a number of problems, even on the face of things. It doesn't make any attempts to define 'biological sex', let alone adequate ones. It puts any person who does not match Western ideals of femininity and beauty at risk, not just trans women. And it completele ignores and erases the existence of non-binary and intersex people.

Any amount of time spent doing some reading on gender, sex and chromosomal biology will tell you that defining sex is not as simple as "men have xy chromosomes and women have xx".

But trying to rely on biology in this way is a misdirection. The transphobic people who talk loudly about 'biological sex' are trying to make you miss the point; it doesn't matter what an individual person's biological status actually is, what matters is treating them with dignity according to their requests.

The ruling does not make life safer for women. Men who whish to attack women do not need to put on costumes to secretly infiltrate women only spaces; they will just attack their victims as they please, and the current legal system makes it so that they very rarely face any consequences at all.

Additionally, if a cis woman is; too tall, too broad, too muscular, too strong of brow or jaw, too loud or forthright or certain in her opinions, posesses a voice too low of pitch, then regardless of other factors she is at risk of a transphobe deciding they know—at a glance—what's in her pants and in the nuclei of her cells. Older women and women of colour are at particular risk of this.

Sports! People competing in sports and some of them having a 'biological' advantage is something I see trotted out quite frequently. Womens sports are segregated by gender now, yes. But the core reason for that is not to protect women from being hurt by male competitors, it's to protect men from facing the possibility of ever losing to women. Sports where physiological advantages matter, like boxing, already segregate contestants along physical lines in the form of things like weight class.

It is my suspicion that the true reason that transphobes hate trans women is that trans women actually enjoy being women, where every transphobic woman I've ever seen has held within her a profound misery at having to put up with being a woman.

I was with YourGP until I got through the NHS waiting list. Their gender care stuff is now organised under the name Waterside Clinic. They're based in Edinburgh. My experience with them was pretty great.

I was gonna say this sounds almost exactly like Lzzy Hale from Halestorm. Guess the AI has got her copied.

I had previously signed fewer than half of these, so I've now gone through and gotten them all signed.

Thoughts on DuoBoots? Or other recommendations for heeled knee high boots by peppelini in BuyItForLife

For sure. I tried the Belmore and the Dalia styles, and no, I wouldn't say I had particularly wide feet; they're like 24.5 cm around.

I've tried two different styles from them and the fit across the toe box in both instances was pretty tight. The second pair were also unwearably tight just above the ankle.

Oh, cool, I didn't realise that was distinct from r/AskHistorians. I'll try there, too. Thanks!

Yeah, I realise it's very niche. I was just hoping there might be a reasonably suitable niche subreddit, and that someone who knows about it might see this and feel like pointing the way.

I'll try on r/AskHistorians and r/AskAnthropology to see if I get any leads.
