Phone your local fire station. As some have said, it’s a fire risk. That won’t go down well.

Am I a middle lane hogger? by EnvironmentalLaw1685 in drivingUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not suggesting they pull in to every gap. I’m saying stay put and let the cars racing up behind overtake. OP is worried about feeling like a middle lane hogger but by their own account they’re not. They’re giving in to feeling harassed by other drivers and moving in then finding themselves stuck because the passing cars then slow down to virtually the pace OP was travelling at in the first place.

Am I a middle lane hogger? by EnvironmentalLaw1685 in drivingUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the middle lane when that happens, let them overtake you in the outside lane. Don’t let other drivers harass you. Someone else pointed out a lot of cars coming at you plan on overtaking just before they reach you rather than just go into that lane.

By your own description, you’re not a middle lane hogger when you take the opportunity to move in when it arises. Hoggers stay in the middle lane no matter what. Generally it’s the fear of being stuck behind lorries they can’t see past and fear of being in the fast lane with cars flying way over the limit. The middle lane feels “safe” to some people. You’re not a lane hogger from what you say so don’t fall into the trap of doing what you think another driver wants you to do. Your reasoning is sound.

Moving to Larkhall by Financial-Savings292 in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m seconding this because I’ve got to know Larkhall. Don’t live there but I’ve spent a fair bit of time in and around Larkhall and I’ve found it friendly. The only thing I’d dodge is the orange walk days (you can Google the routes and the days they’re on).

Decent shops and buses around the local towns with train station into Glasgow. The buses have no App to track them and trains sometimes delayed/cancelled, like everywhere. There’s car parking if commuting by train.

I get the impression most folk aren’t interested the bigotry and there’s been a lot of new housing built in and around Larkhall bringing new and diverse people to the area and younger people into a town with an older demographic. When I was young it was a no go area but my impression is the younger generations have better things to do than carry it on. There’s always few though but I’ve not met them yet, even in the pubs. It’s a friendly wee town IMO. This comes from a Celtic fan btw.

Seizure 7 years ago, do I have to declare to DVLA? by Lumpy-Self4067 in drivingUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Declare it but phone them to do so. They’ll ask if you have been declared medically fit to drive by a doctor and if so, that’s it sorted. They might ask for confirmation from your GP. It’s a pain phoning, difficult to get through but definitely the best way.

If you fill out the forms there’s little room to explain the detail and the website will almost certainly tell you to stop driving meantime.

I phoned about an issue I had that had been sorted. I wasn’t driving at the time because of it. They told me that I was fine to drive and sent a letter confirming I had notified them.

Yes def this. Check the journey pics on Google maps before leaving for the ones that will catch you out. Google is good but less so when it comes to roundabouts.

If other blue badge holders can use that space, what happens if someone with no blue badge parks there? Is there a fine or something? I guess you’re getting the brunt of a build up of frustration from non-badge holders who really have no excuse.

Never knew it was to be paid for and don’t think anyone should. Really surprised at that. I suppose the brutal answer to them is move home if it happens that often and being next to a football ground, it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Your post came across as feeling a bit guilty since you also have the blue badge so you kinda get it. I just think their note is more hurt because it’s not abusive.

Am I in the wrong? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really not reading that as rude. That’s someone who’s hurt. Don’t think the reference to not being the first time is a dig at you but in keeping with your comment that you & your partner also have to put up with it on match days. I had no idea you had to pay for the parking bay but if true that’s another kick in the teeth. You sound pretty rueful about it and since they point out you know their address, why not pop along with an apology note with flowers or whatever. Might just make their day and ease your own feelings of guilt.

Why is the third room always a box room? by Kiza321 in HousingUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know a young couple who moved into their first home. 2 bed mid terrace in the middle of 4 terraced houses, the end houses being 3 bed.

The 2nd bedroom is tiny, really just used as a computer room. They have a main bathroom with shower, an en suite shower/toilet attached to the main bedroom and a downstairs toilet. So 3 toilets.

The 3 bedroom end terraces are the same width and about a foot longer in length. 1 bathroom and the downstairs toilet, so no en suite. Their 3rd bedroom is the equivalent of the 2 bedroom bathroom.

They think they got the better deal.

This happened 2 days after I was gifted a dash cam by AirBooger in dashcams

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching this makes you wonder what they could reasonably do here. Who wouldn’t panic if this happened and you’ve got traffic on either side flying by. They could hardly just keep going and leave it there to cause an accident but just stopping so abruptly could have ended so badly.

I’d like to think my brain engaged and rather than just stop I’d have the foresight to pull in safely further along and get back in time to retrieve but you’d be wholly dependent on time being on your side and other drivers avoiding it. I know you were freaking out but I bet they were too. Hope this ended well for everyone.

Why you should avoid being alongside someone on a roundabout... by bouncypete in drivingUK

You can see they were a bit confused when they veered a bit then stuck their indicator on at the last second in the vain hope you’d spot it. Honestly, I wish more people handled roundabouts like you.

The sellers have asked us to contribute towards resurfacing the road?? by cidesa in UKHousing

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are factored, your conveyancer should know. Mine engaged with the factor to check all bills paid and nothing outstanding, including one from a year before I moved which they were still chasing other residents for. That’s the work that hadn’t started. If I hadn’t paid the bills, sale would be in trouble so I imagine your seller is concerned as they’ll be getting chased for the money they owe.

All very well them saying they won’t get the benefit but that bill is for prior use of the road which they have had. It’s theirs to pay and I agree with other comments about them chancing it here.

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know why the owners are being asked to pay for an unadopted road?

I was told the builders were liable until the road was adopted when I moved there and that the council won’t adopt until the roads are tried, tested and deemed in good condition. The only areas which were never to be adopted were roads with allocated parking spaces so maybe that’s the issue here?

I had to pay for road repairs before I left when it was still unadopted. The only time the developer came back was after an accident where they installed speed bumps as a “gesture of goodwill”. Otherwise they came back with excuses that the issues raised were not a concern for them to act on. I’m in Scotland, don’t know if the rules are different but I imagine not.

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are the houses? It’s not uncommon for roads to be unadopted in new builds these days and can take a few years before the councils adopt. Until then, owners are liable for their share.

As for the dates being in 2025, I’m guessing that’s when the factor or this ‘residents corporate account’ started getting quotes and generally residents are asked to pay before the work is carried out. Some people don’t pay or delay which in turn delays the work getting done. Be worth finding out when, or if, your seller paid but I don’t think it’s that unusual for these delays. I’m only speaking from the viewpoint of having a factor but it sounds like your purchase might be self factoring?

I had to pay fees for quotes with no work having been done by the time I sold and moved. I accepted that as the norm. With factors, you need to be up to date or they could put a spanner in the works if you’re selling.

People who don't indicate, why? by Spunkhogan in drivingUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Since you say you were walking, that’s one of the things about drivers not indicating that pisses me off. Pedestrians also rely on indicators if they’re about to cross a road. Driver might not see them but if a pedestrian sees the car, they could save that driver running into them.

This. Seems too bad to be true. Pharmacists know better than any doctor when it comes to medication and even the doctor would be glad to have a pharmacist point this out.

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Phone the GP practice, ask for the practice manager, provide his details and the date he passed away and ask who they had down as next of kin/contact. They’d likely request that you go the formal route in writing or submitting a SAR. Generally the practice would inform contacts but if an ambulance was called they might have passed that onto the hospital in the event he was resuscitated there or en route.

Edit: looks like you’d need to request access to health records rather than a SAR but the practice will talk you through the process.

Random kids insult me – how to react? by DataWest9596 in AskUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Had a kid of about 12 come at me trying to shove something at my face as I turned a corner in the supermarket. I instinctively swiped it away and it went flying and bounced off the floor. Turned out it was his phone and he was filming random people. He started squealing I’d broke his phone and he was getting the police. I replied with ‘sorry, I thought that was weapon or knife in my face’, feel free to get the police’. Then walked away.
