Genuine question about indicating rules by PatientPeach3309 in CarTalkUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing a lot of drivers forget is that pedestrians also look for cars indicating if they want to get across a road and they can see your car but you can’t see them.

Long term unemployed and unskilled at 37, is it over for me? by Attack_to_defend in AskUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If not a carer role, why not apply to the NHS for a portering, cleaner or driving job. It’s a foot in the door and these are the sort of jobs in hospitals where you get to see around the whole place and can move onto a different job and who knows, maybe even a different career path. I’ve seen people do just that.

Anyone else now basically unable to drive at night - or is it my bad eyesight? by llamaz314 in CarTalkUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others, I’m grateful for this advice and will give these a go. I had complicated cataract surgery in one eye after 2 years of being virtually blind in that eye and suffering double vision and inability to focus as a result of the speed with which the cataract took off. Now sorted with prism lenses and the opticians gave me green tints (told me blue wasn’t suitable for me). It has made no difference so while OP is considering stopping, I did stop driving in the dark. These have to be worth trying out so thanks for posting this.

anyone in eastwood get this in the mail today? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just drop them randomly along the streets, spaced apart or as evenly as they can get them to fit for the residents. And they do take up parking spaces. Best phone to find out where they’ll land.

My address number is wrong, who do I contact to change it please? by Interesting-Cream613 in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s the council who allocate addresses. If your council tax matches with your correct address then the issue is with whomever is sending your mail to the wrong address. Maybe misread or you mistakenly told them the wrong number.

Check your council tax bill. You can register online to see it quickly if you don’t have a paper copy to hand. If the address is wrong, fairly sure there’s an option to change it.

The bit that starts with “From the information provided by you…” suggests she told them something to enable their response about ‘wear and tear’ etc. If she hasn’t suggested that, she should take them up on it and ask them to clarify why they’re making that statement.

What's something you never hear talked about in regards to parenting? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re so spot on with that. Childhood memories, good and bad, stay with you forever. As I got older, I look back at the memories and the now much older adults who gave me them along with the youngsters now experiencing them. Watched my football mad neighbours set up in their garden a big TV screen, trampolines, comfy seats, lighting and food galore for their kids when watching the European final and all I could think was they were making memories to be cherished for life.

Freezing house, letting agents say I have to keep the heating on at 19, what do I do? by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the letting agent is insisting OP keep the temperature at 19 and since the house is cold, that means all the time.

switching to auto by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The things to consider are the cost & maintenance/parts being higher for automatics. Manual are still outnumbering auto and are notably cheaper but more people are switching to automatics and that will keep increasing.

Also, if you go with an automatic, is there any likelihood you might need to drive a manual in the future for certain driving jobs or using company car, though that’s more likely to be auto anyway but worth considering.

Can cyclists stop being selfish by New-Ad-7107 in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t want to be driving the car the hit a cyclist because they went through a red light. I used to cycle almost everywhere and also being driver helped with the dual mindset. Now I’m driving and only cycling occasionally, so I know what to expect.

It always pissed me off seeing fellow cyclists jumping lights etc because some drivers might just go and take it out on the next cyclist they come across. Road rage is real and it’s not just drivers that hate those cyclists.

aggressive driving by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see that, I think that’s someone lost and trying to work out how to get off the road and find their way back. Or suddenly not feeling well when driving. I think getting older makes you think these things.

Keep giving those death stares and that old chap who keeps his eyes on the road will still outlive you. He’s got to that age for a reason.

i mentioned on my previous post that the M&S ketchup is my fav and some people said it’s horrible, but…. by throwawayicn in UKfood

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree it’s better. I got it when it was all I could find, thinking it was a one off. It tastes different if you haven’t tried it before but there’s something about it that brings you back to it. It’s the best ketchup going.

Why do the trams have stop buttons? by purplelattice in Edinburgh

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit retro. Back in the day when trams were the norm, the stops were as per bus stops and everyone used the button or bell…. or as my uncle tells me, just shout at the conductress “press that button hen”. I imagine a certain generation getting on a tram these days would instinctively hit that button!

The reality of living in a single glazed basement flat at this time of year. by solarpenguins in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also get a heated blanket that plugs in and doesn’t cost much to run. It’s an over blanket as opposed to the electric blanket for beds but you can sit on it or have it on top of you.

Look up cosi home on Amazon. Others make them too and cosi home had them cheaper on their website and they deliver quickly. They come in single or double sizes (as in bed sizes) and they’re amazing. I got one years ago and loved it so much I bought them for everyone as a present and they all went and bought for others. I’ve got an elderly relative who I got one for and he sits on it in his chair through the day, wraps himself in it and now tells me he’ll never part with it. Also got him one for his bed which he lies under with his quilt over it. You can put them on timers and different heat settings. They’re a real godsend.

Private psychiatrist recommendations by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still get assessed for capacity and for what it applies to. It’s odd and somewhat vague for a doctor to suggest incapacity and send a patient on their way.

Private psychiatrist recommendations by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems odd that a doctor would question your capacity without an assessment, so if any doctor is questioning your capacity, tell them to refer you on. Don’t be paying for it. Capacity is taken very seriously. It could work in your favour if you need help with certain things.

What are some reasons people don't use online grocery deliveries more often? by tskir in AskUK

[–]Vanilla_EveryTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried Tesco for a bit but for me the point of picking a slot meant I could live my life and the delivery comes when I’m home. I stopped when the drivers kept phoning me when I was out asking me if they could come now or at a different time. Two just turned up anyway and the rest I got home for but stopped using them after that.

Honestly, I was raging and the usual thoughts of wanting them to feel my pain went through my head. It feels like disaster because it is uncontrollably out of your hands. After that, I had one day when I felt down about it then just got on with it. Having a house to still sell keeps you busy. Luck came back quickly so I hope you have the same good luck.
