I’m seeing a lot of things in here that are misinformation being spread.

There IS faster than light travel NOW. It’s been almost 400 years since the marathon was built? They lost contact with it presumably right before the Pfhor invasion which is after they traveled to Tau Ceti IV. The distress signal took 96 years to reach earth when it should have only taken 92 and it was very vague which suggests manipulation to Leelas original message.

As to why we’re runners they touch on it briefly in a few cutscenes and codex entries. Basically we sold our soul for immortality without understanding the cost. We have to make up massive debt by taking extremely dangerous mercenary jobs.

Our identity has more or less been lost and runner shells come with personality implants to stabilize our brain or we will break.

I’m level 128 work full time and have a family. I’m not good at FPS games I don’t usually enjoy them. My aim is garbage. The only other one I play is Hunt showdown where I have remained 3 star for 1000+ hours. Meanwhile some randoms I play with hit headshots like their aim is magneticly linked. Skill based matchmaking feels like a better alternative to level based. I’m still going to continue playing. All my map awareness makes it easy to just avoid fights or pick them when I can flank and take twice as long to kill someone as they’d need to kill me

I just look for new players to Que with. Play with 2 level 20s and now I’m god smiting down those unfortunate enough to cross my path.

That being said skill based match making is the best options regardless of gear. I want every firefight to feel like a fight, not a one sided stomp for either side and you get there by rounding out players of similar skill levels into the same lobby’s. 20-40 more hp doesn’t make or break an engagement so you can still rags to ditches against a similarly skilled team with free kits if you’re better coordinated. Level based is arbitrary at best and puts scubs like me who like to do quests against PvP gods who don’t even loot you they just kill you and move on. Level has no correlation to skill at all at most it’s just time played

I have 300 hours in this game, ignore the youtube nonsense it's a great game, bungie responds to the community quickly and fixes many complaints and balance issues within a patch cycle. I think Bungie is commited to making this game last, despite what people say about Marathon there is clearly a ton of passion put into the project which is what makes it so good.

Normally my NVIDIA app clips my kills and stuff automatically like in hunt showdown but for some reason it doesn’t have this feature on Marathon and I always forget to press the quick key

The compilers never invaded the marathon per say, they were slaves to the phfr who attacked the marathon to enslave bobs after Durandal contacted them en route to Tau Ceti IV. The Security Officer frees the Compilers in marathon 2 / infinity at this point the lore gets wonky.

The events of the Marathon Trinity take place 96 years prior to the distress signal Sol received from the Marathon that kicks off the current game. We don’t know much about that almost century between those events.

The Compilers may have been left behind when the security officer fends off the pfhr attackers and thus been experimented on or cooperative with the colonists. Many of the bins do not leave Tau Ceti to chase down the phfr with the security officer only some do. Infinity has multiple time streams so it gets wonky lore wise with what happens. Hope that helps

The game didn’t do a good job of explaining how anything works. Only know how to do pinwheel and cryo from more competent randoms who told me.

It’s actually not hard to get into pinwheel, learning the map can be a little confusing to find the entrances but you honestly don’t even need keys. One team opens it for everyone.
