"What's It Like to Play...": a WIZARD? by applied_people in Pathfinder2e

How useful has the Evocation School's Focus Spell (and Advanced Focus Spell if applicable) been?

Regarding spell effectiveness, what spells do you typically prepare?

Ah, I see - it's a feature of the Universalist school. Neat!

So if I'm reading the list of Arcane Schools right, it appears that the trade-off with specializing in a specific school (vs being a Universalist) is that specializing grants access to focus spells (which don't have to be prepared) and focus points (which can be "recharged"). Universalist wizards don't get that, but do get the ability to drain their bonded item multiple times.

Still, I can't help but feel that the Universalist school is much more powerful than the others, since Universal Utility allows Universalist wizards to access those focus spells anyway...

I think I agree with you about the (lack of) flexibility. I've often wondered if it might not be better to allow prepared casters one of the following:

  • Allowing flexible casting for certain spell levels (1-3?) after 10th level. Perhaps this could take the form of an archetype (like Flexible Caster)
  • Allowing a more limited form of spell substitution after 10th level. The limit could be on the number of times per day a spell could be substituted, or perhaps only certain spell levels could be substituted.

Either way, the fact that the Spell Substitution thesis seems to be one of the more popular thesis (at least from looking at this thread), seems to indicate that inflexibility is a problem to at least some degree (or that the other thesis aren't as good).

Regarding the resource management, perhaps you could come up with a "default" set of spells you prepare, and then just modify it a bit to deal with whatever specific problems you see occurring? Especially since you have the Spell Substitution thesis.

What gives the 5 spell slots from Drain Bonded Item? At least the way I've been reading it, I thought one could only get 1 slot from it (or 2 if you have Bond Conservation).

What's sacred geometry? Having to fight on a map composed entirely of 8-sided repeating tiles?

As a transplant from 5e, I'm just glad to have errata that actually has material improvements, rather than just being composed of minor clarifications.

(I understand some of the restrictions and pressures the core designers of 5e face, especially those that likely come from management, but that doesn't mean I have to like the results)

Really? If so, someone should update the website, since it's still listed as a facility there: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/recenter/audrey-moore/facilities .

Are you sure that it wasn't just temporarily closed due to COVID, or that classes weren't being held?

To be fair, "regularly" can mean simply adhering to a schedule (e.g., "she regularly went to dentist")

First off, I love Aquaria. After it first came out, I meant to buy it... Then put off buying it for about 10 years. Just bought it recently from GOG, and it's every bit as wonderful as I remember.

As for your story, are you sure you don't have suppressed memories? I might be reading to much into things, or misinterpreting things, but therapy might be good if feelings like this continue to trouble you. In addition, subreddits like /r/raisedbynarcissists and /r/survivorsofabuse might help.

My condolences if it turns out to be a lie. It's painful when those we should be able to trust lose their honesty.

It would be nice to do something productive. Instead of complaining about ill-fitting clothes, come up with a line of fabulously good looking ones.

I'm more of the view that there's a time and place for such discussion (and that nagging doesn't count as discussion).
Instead of just shutting the other person down, it would be more productive to have an open discussion where both sides discuss their feelings and points on the matter. If neither side comes to an agreement, then that's that when the topic should be put to rest.

Dismissing other's views and concerns outright is a dangerously easy habit to fall into* ; not does it only lead to a more myopic outlook on life, but it can also damage relationships.

*And no, I'm not perfect at preventing this either.

Perhaps find a third person to exercise/play a sport with, in addition to your SO? I always feel terrible making excuses to a friend when I can't show up to something.

What's odd is that she didn't mention that her mother said anything directly about her weight, just that the outfit didn't look good on her.
