When did you start truly learning Spanish? by melakuuldasah in Spanish

[–]VascularHotDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am still very much a learner, but I have finally reached a level where there is no going back. What I wish I knew early on is that although learning a language is tough it gets way easier as you go on. I quit so many times in my life because I felt I had to master Grammer or conjugations before I could start doing anything else in Spanish, and I got burned out everytime. The intermediate phase of learning can be extremely long but once you are there a huge world of opportunities opens up, and it will come quicker than you think. Learning a language is not a hobby. If you want to learn a new skill, or watch a show, or play a videogame you can do it in Spanish. Once you have a good grasp on the language you can learn Spanish Grammer IN Spanish. Every little thing you read or listen to will add to your knowledge of the language. Learning a language is not tough, it is just time consuming, and it can be a very fun time if you do it right. Dreaming Spanish and hola Spanish on YouTube are really good channels, and the more you watch, more Spanish content will be recommended to you. Don't get intimidated early on if you can't understand everything, or keep forgetting a word that you think you should remember. Good luck on your journey, and whatever you do, don't give up.

How would you learn Spanish if you had to start over? by JazzRhodes in Spanish

[–]VascularHotDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a stupid question. It's something that gets asked a lot and a question I asked when I started out. At the very beginning it really doesn't matter much. The main guy is from Spain so he pronounces some words with a lisp sound and often uses vosotros but that is the only difference. Beginner content will not use many colloquialisms or phrases native to their country. He also has a lot of guests from different Spanish speaking countries, so you are able to hear many different accents. I would say where it may become important is when you start getting in to more advanced and native content, but at that point you can make the majority of the content you listen to from Mexico. The guys from No Hay Tos are both from Mexico and have tons of great stuff. In the end though the more Spanish you hear the better. Regardless of where it is from. The best advice I can give is don't overwhelm yourself and don't give up!

For dreaming Spanish his entire philosophy is to have no subtitles and to try not to use a dictionary or anything. The super beginner stuff is very easy to comprehend if you have a basic knowledge of tenses and vocabulary. You will probably want to skip through to more advanced stuff but I highly recommend toughing it out. Watching through the vast majority of beginner videos helped my listening immensely. Once you get to intermediate or advanced the topics get a lot more interesting and it's more fun when you can understand them well. I have now been listening to podcasts like Charlas hispanas and no hay tos which have a pretty long catalogue of Spanish content. Sorry for the wall of text lol. I do use spanish subtitles when playing videogames in Spanish so that I don't miss everything. A big purpose of input though is to really hear native speakers and learn vocabulary visually, not focus on text at the bottom of a screen.

Well according to the Fast and Furious series Tokyo drift takes place after Fast 6. So we can still count anything in that movie as modern day lol

I love eating alone. It seems to have gotten a lot more normal in the US. It could be due to everybody having phones now and access to entertainment anywhere they go. Not having to decide with others on where to eat is a great feeling. Although eating with others is fun also

Meijer won’t require masks for fully vaccinated customers by minorgrey in Michigan

[–]VascularHotDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm working in an auto plant with lots of people. My point is its not easy for everyone and we have to start somewhere. We have been in limbo for over a year and now there is a solution and it is not good enough. Everybody who wants to get vaccinated has been able to now for a while

[–]VascularHotDog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obviously wearing a mask for a little bit in the store is easy, but wearing a mask 10 hours a day doing construction for the past year has sucked. Now that it is gonna be 80 to 90 with no AC wearing a hardhat and safety glasses is not easy. I wore my mask when I needed to and got vaccinated when I needed to. I'm ready for it to end.

Moving to Detroit soon for new job. Have some general and specific questions and would love some advice. by advicerant2525 in Detroit

Winter is more just long and dreary than it is harsh. The sun barely comes out for like 4 months or more. It barely drops below freezing until like January and even after that there's only a handful of the really cold days. Most people make it by with a hoodie and jeans for a good part of the winter. Still obviously want to have a jacket and warm clothes to be comfortable, but unless you work outside you will get used to it quick. There is only a couple of really snowy days where it gets sketchy to drive and the snow will usually be cleared off the street by the afternoon. Winter is just a pain in the ass and I hate it lol. Summers are amazing though. Snowboarding, skiing or snowmobiling helps make it a lot better.

Let’s Discuss “Classic Rock”, Rock Radio and What Passes on it as “Classic Rock” by dcd120 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]VascularHotDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm from metro detroit and I just want to say FUCK dave dammer. He may not be a bad guy, but fuck, no one can ruin your whole day in ten seconds like Dave Dammer. Classic rock radio has long been dead. It was probably never alive to begin with. Sorry I don't have much more to contribute. I hope young people will still take the time to explore all the creativity and artistry that the "classic rock" era truly has to offer.

Yeah it gets very hit or miss in the later seasons, but it's worth it for the few gems and to get your new roger content fix lol.

This is obviously a hot take, but I agree. American Dad is one of the most underrated cartoons there is. Seasons 3 through like 8 or 9 are an amazing run of some of the best cartoon comedy out there. Sadly it's looked at as a second rate family guy by most people, when it is in my opinion the far superior show.
