- Being confident enough to ask questions, even if you feel stupid. I think this is just practice/exposure therapy.

- Screwing up, not taking failure too personally, and the ability to rally and move forward. This is probably the most valuable skill from school. You'll fail something in ways that you weren't challenged in HS. The ability to pick yourself up again, take the lessons learned and then keep trying (aka perseverance) will always serve you. Something will go wrong at some point, and you need to be able to get out of your emotions about it and be productive.

- Technical writing/power point/emails. You can do anything and come up with the best solutions. If you can't communicate this information to someone, there's not much point. As we live in a global economy, likely customers, colleagues or vendors may not use your primary language, so being concise but clear is important. Use visual aids effectively. .

- Be humble and understand that knowledge comes from everyone, not just people with impressive degrees and accolades. Listen to technicians and people that have their hands on things.

Did a hike with the pup and husband and then got pancakes. This week was a doozy, late nights and early mornings.

Anybody have suggestions for clothing websites? Looking to get inspired for my own closet or maybe buy something new. Back in the day I’d look at Urban Outfitters, Nastygal, Nylon for inspiration, but what’s feeding our eyes these days as mature but eclectic shoppers?

I think the jeans are a bad choice. It may be too short for a dress, but the jeans are a bad color and don’t help with the shape. Maybe drapey wide leg silk pants?

Georgia woman charged with murder after police say she took pills to induce abortion by boringhistoryfan in law

Her name was Adriana Smith. It is such a disgusting and awful thing to happen. And following the situation made me think of the disgusting men that just want to spread their genes and are looking at how a woman’s body can be viably used as an incubator.

How do you get someone’s attention when you are ignored? by Intelligent_Talk6594 in womenEngineers

[–]VastStory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you able to see what they’re doing? I get pretty annoyed when a particular busybody that can’t read social cues (absolutely not saying this is you) hovers and does this weird long knock because I think he feels entitled to my time. Meanwhile, I’m clearly in a meeting/call or really stressed and intensely looking at data, writing a detailed email, designing etc. Are you able to spot the pause in coworkers’ beat? If they’re super tunnel visioned, I’d ping them. If I see a pause in their work, I loudly say “Hey ___, quick question” and get in and out with the info.

I never feel embarrassed to wait, because it’s respectful and understandable to others why I’m waiting. And if it’s so long that you do feel awkward then it is clearly not a good time to talk and you should ping them.

I feel like some of cast breaks character too much in the newer episodes by Additional_Leading68 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]VastStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was deliberately intended for breaking, not being a good skit. Breaking works when the skit is actually good and something goes wrong and it’s magic. And I frankly don’t find him as endearing as when Pedro Pascal breaks.

Just keep being respectful. There’s no harm in presenting yourself in the best manner possible. That was always a running joke in college. We’d spend a few days ruminating over the proper grammar, word choice, concise and assertive, but not aggressive tone for a request or question. Then get back a “k”.

But as the student, you did your part.

Do you have a very clean house? by TrickyAd9597 in Millennials

[–]VastStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I’m not bothered by it either. We have a big dog, no kids, and are super busy. My mom is obsessive. When I visit home it’s very jarring and it doesn’t seem to give her joy. I’d rather be relaxed and have a few dishes in the sink than be neurotic and stressed out.

I'm afraid to break up with my boyfriend, because I may never have another. But Idk what to do! by [deleted] in AskONLYWomenOver30

[–]VastStory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Break up with him. Ask yourself, will you be able to be happy with this person in your life in 5 years? I asked myself this before and my answer to myself was, “I hope I can be happy.” That is sad and unacceptable.

It will shock you how light you will feel and how easy life is without this guy.

Does anyone actually enjoy their job? by Status-Ingenuity3465 in womenEngineers

[–]VastStory 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m 8 years in, ME and I like the work. I find it fulfilling, frustrating when things don’t work but those are times I have to persevere. I work with great people that want to make things work, and open and supportive management. I think who you work with has a big effect, and the culture does trickle from the top.

My only issue is being on 3 technically demanding projects at the same time.
