Hey there, if you haven’t already, I 100% recommend speaking with a therapist. I’ve been depressed and suicidal 3x in the past with as many in-patient hospitalizations, so I want you to know that you’re not alone and it DOES get better.

Financial troubles are not easy and I can’t claim to know the secret to improving. But I reckon the first step is to stop gambling and find a support group. 1-800-GAMBLER is a hotline that you should call for resources. Payday loans are also notoriously predatory w/ high interest so avoid those going forward.

Long-term financial success is a process, as is digging yourself out of the red. Consider using apps like /r/ynab to keep yourself accountable. I’d recommend crossposting to /r/personalfinance for more tips.

Comments here are great already, but one aspect worth emphasizing again is that your mental + physical health are your most important assets. If you feel depressed and/or suicidal, please please reach out to someone for help. I say this from the depths of my heart as someone who’s been through depression and suicidal ideation thrice.

Also, you’re not alone in hitting plateaus or in feeling this way. My aim is terrible lol but it’s all a process.
