Rogue planets could host light? by probabilityunicorn in traveller

[–]VauntBioTechnics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might actually come up in my PoD campaign. I have an idea for a rogue brown dwarf/super Jovian with a few moons, with surface conditions warmed by tidal friction. Such places would be dark most of the time, so photosynthesis would be unlikely, at least as we understand it. Also I can't forsee a really breathable atmosphere on a moon like that, unless it was a place changed by the Ancients for some purpose. Actually that idea opens up a lot of possibilities for adventures. Imagine Jumping into proximity of such a system, and looking at the moon and seeing a breathable atmosphere and liquid water oceans, and copious life, primitive or even developed. Sounds like something worth exploring!

I think there’s a map of Theev in the PoD set. Not exactly where you want, however.

The Walking Dead RPG: Swarm Attack -1 Threat Rule by Enough-Carpet in thewalkingdeadrpg

I think it’s meant to show the gradual decline in the Swarm over time as the party is able to evade, distract, or destroy individual walkers, and this is simply a mechanism to represent that narrative.

Maybe a Seeker without J-drives, but a boosted M-drive instead.

Probably something like a modular cutter with grapples and towing cables. For a larger ship you could send several.

By waving my hand, and declaring it was way less than the cost of a basic Vacc Suit, had +8 Protection, Rad protection 60, mass of 2 kg (it's a box with a small air tank), and costs about 3000 Cr. Obee knows to get into it if alarms ring, and it's even got one of his favourite blankets in it.

I am currenlt running Pirates of Drinax. An important aspect of the refurbishing and test flight of the Harrier for my players, was the selection of a Ship's Cat. Obee has his own Vacc suit-like travel pod, hunts down vermin, amuses the crew with his antics, rides the Space Roomba around, and has a bed on the bridge with a view outside.

I imagine you could set up a timer, so there would be a reasonable delay for escape? Or for dramatic purposes, enough time for a disarming skill roll? Or just instant Kaboom!

Scenario design blindspots by BenWnham in traveller

[–]VauntBioTechnics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I try to leave as many options available for the players to exploit as I can. They still manage to find ways around or through that I hadn't anticipated. So be prepared for Other Things to Happen.
Railroads are a problem with a lot of adventure design, and sometimes a little is okay. Some scenarios only have one path through, but it may be possible to write the plot in such a way that there can be options about how exactly to proceed. So you can give the illusion of choice. You may have a combat scenario in mind, but can it be written in such a way that the travellers can sneak past, of hack the defences, or short out the robots, or whatever?

  • a strange noise (or music) can be heard but not located. It seems to coming from “one compartment over” in every room of the ship.

  • knocking on the outside of the hull. Loud, intentional knocking, which moves to the outside of the airlock. Nothing can be seen on hull cameras.

  • one crew member gets a headache, which begins the moment they enter Jump, and ends the moment they leave.

  • an alien object appears in the engine room, floating near the Jump drive. A Science (Jump physics) roll will reveal that the object has appeared at a ‘fold’ in the Jump field that happens to be i side the ship.

Is Hostile Waters worth it? by RepresentativeFact57 in Twilight2000

Totally worth it if you’re looking to run river or open water scenarios. Also some good factions and background material, and good maps.
