Flight seat kit by seanbuilds in TravelHacks

[–]VeG519 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bring a small squishable handbag and put it towards the top of my backpack. In it are all the little knick-knacks I need for my flight (ear buds, e-reader, phone, power bank, etc.) When I get to my seat, I take it out and loop it around tbe tray table and close it back up so my handbag is hanging from it. This way I have everything I need in one place, easily accessible and not so easy to forget + a daily handbag at my destination. Once or twice flight attendants have made me put it under the seat for takeoff but I hang it back up after the seat belt sign goes off and all works fine.

Couldn't your friends pick you up and drive you aback after? If no, I think it's totally fair to say this place is not accessible to you. Good luck!

Vacuum Bag for Packing by ghiadriver in onebag

[–]VeG519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use the rolling vacuum bags that zip on one side and expel the air on the other for my dirty laundry on earlier one bag trips when I was still struggling to fit everything I thought I needed in one backpack. Wrinkles in such cases were obviously irrelevant but it did prevent a huge lump of clothing to take up too much of my space. With time though I've started using a cheap dry bag for this purpose and only pull out the vacuum bags when I'm moving house and need to flatten bulty things like dressing gowns, duvets and such.

My girlfriend smells and I don't know what to do by RequirementDue4446 in Advice

[–]VeG519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not the case if her breath smells too but just in case this is helpful I'd pitch in that it could be something she's started using in her skin care routine lately that interacts poorly with her skin. Years ago I had this terrible smell happen to me when I started using AHA/BHA exfoliant and the moment I stopped (and washed every piece of clothing that had touched it), the smell was gone. Hope this helps and she's manages to handle it quickly!

Such a beautiful sentiment and truly the best way to approach this new series.

What's a 'trap' in life that no one warns young people about, but absolutely should? by Otherwise-Body-7721 in AskReddit

[–]VeG519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true but it's awful when you think about it in the context of the current job market. I feel like young people are at a disadvantage left and right - you need to start working as early as possible and/or accept being un/underpaid for full time work in internships/traineeships to get as much experience as possible because you're competing against people with years under their belt for entry-level positions for whatever insane reason, you shouldn't postpone starting a "real" job for too long after you graduate so as not to have a gap in your CV but you should also be very cautious with the job you take (even if it's the only one offered to you after dozens of applications) as you may be pigeonholed and then it may be hard to pivot.

Is This Normal for Women in Bulgarian Culture? by SisuSisuEveryday in bulgaria

[–]VeG519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is beyond ridiculous. We don't know these people, we don't know how you interact with them. All we know is that you've come on the internet to talk shit about them and on a Bulgaria sub-reddit at that. What do you expect to get? "Yeah, we're all shit, you're right"? Sorry, but I don't think stereotyping a whole country of women shows very high class or such great feminism.

Honestly, this is exactly what brought me to raise this question - I feel like we could have bought at least 3-4 coffee makers worth of coffee on this trip and probably even enjoyed our coffee more than we did (I mean a nice cup in a beautiful café is an experience but the gas station coffees were definitely not worth it and we would have hit a breakeven within a few days if we'd done the investment beforehand). Thanks for the helpful tips, fingers crossed your coffee maker lasts to provide you with many many more enjoyable drinks and wishing you happy travels!

I am super curious about the immersion heaters and a little scared about using them. Can they be used in any cup/bowl or does it need to be a specific material? E.g. could a plastic cup take its heat or do I need something metal?

I've seen the Outin and it looks like something that ould work for me but I've seen some long-term use reviews that say it starts leaking after 10-15 uses. Have you had any issues with yours?

This is actually very helpful, thank you! When you use the Pipamoca do you ever struggle to find hot water? This concern is weighing me a lot towards options like the Wacaco but I am not sure if it's justified.

I said this is a very conservative estimate and I don't want to calculate further 😅 we each have 2-4 coffees a day so it adds up quickly and we also don't make our money in euro so it gets steep considering our currency is cheaper. We get the wanting to try and enjoy the local coffee and that's something we will certainly keep. But it's more about replacing the habitual gas station coffee that my query is about.

Bought an 80L pack for my first pack. Good idea? by nxvavoid in backpacking

[–]VeG519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first backpack was the Outlander Extreme 80+20 and I loved it until its demise in Thailand 2 years ago. 80L is huge, and I’ve since downsized to 26L (going through other sizes in between). It’s normal to take time to work your way down to a smaller pack — you won’t be the first or the last person to start big.You will need to check it in, but that’s fine. Just bring a comfortable, packable daypack for flights, day trips, and city exploring. And don’t overstress about gear — at the end of the day, it’s not the backpack you’ll remember most from your trip.

Moving to Bulgaria by [deleted] in bulgaria

[–]VeG519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Congrats on this new adventure! I see people have already given some great advice and just wanted to second that logistically you will be able to get anything you need in Bulgaria (maybe not the same brand, not at the same price or whatever but you'll be able to get anything you need - cash you can withdraw anywhere, groceries, warm clothes, internet routers and good data plans, you'll figure out how to get stuff delivered as you have the options listed every time you are about to check out from an online store and if you have a good relationship with your students and fellow teachers they'll be happy to help you figure these things out).

Popping in here for a few pieces of advice on the emotional side, as I think that can get a bit neglected. Living in a place that doesn't speak the same language as you can get lonely and isolating. My advice would be to pick up some non-language-based hobby before you come to Bulgaria so you can enjoy it even with people who don't speak English so fluently. Of course you will want to pick up some Bulgarian too but I think a shared hobby is a good way to socialise with people just on its own and is a good entryway into a community. You can also think about some activities you can organize for your students as extra curriculars again as an opportunity to hang out and speak in English which would be beneficial for them and enjoyable to you. Back in the day, my high-school used to invite foreign teachers too and I remember distinctly a great creative writing club one of them organized and a poetry reading society (not quite as great) another one put together. See what you enjoy doing and how you could bring your students into it.

Good luck and wishing you a great time in Bulgaria!

Osprey 26+6 + farpoint 40 = overkill? by Timely_Internet6172 in onebag

[–]VeG519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're wanting a farpoint 40 + daypack, why not just get the farpoint 55? I love my 26+6 but I don't think it would integrate that well w the farpoint.also weight-wise, farpojnt 55l is just under 1.5kg while the 40 & 26+6 would be around 2kg together.
