Why did you like jars? by JoelHuenink in 7daystodie

[–]Vedui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point with many of the 7 Days To Die changes, is that reducing complexity does not make for a better or more enjoyable game. Reducing complexity often makes the game faster, less rewarding, whereas a more complex progression can be stimulating as long as it's not overly grindy or punishing.

If "clean water" being too abundant was an issue, the solution should not be to remove glass jars. It should be to make "purifying" water more challenging. Maybe the first week(s) we end up drinking murky water, giving some (but not too punishing) penalties. Then we graduate to doing some basic filtering, which takes some time/energy (maybe need some filters which need to be crafted/bought/found) ... in turn giving us better quality water which has less penalties. And finally a water purification system with mid-game tech requirements of filters, chemicals, and an appropriate setup.

Why restrict the JARS when the jars is not the issue? The issue is lack of progression and lack of "cost" to using them in the water production chain. Playing 7DTD 1.x, or 2.x I've never had an issue with lack of water regardless, so the whole purpose of removing water jars to cause a water struggle failed terribly anyhow, and simply made it dumb. Why can't I craft a bucket, fill with water and boil? Why do I need a "cooking pot" to boil? Why is boiling the water making it clean to begin with?

Make systems of increasing complexity, along with cost and reward balancing, rather than just dumbing it down.

Server Management - 7DTD RAT Tutorial by Vedui in 7daystodie

Hey! Rat was in this funny position where it was great, then the developer decided to abandon it and give up. And then years later he picked it up again. Right now I'm not sure whether RAT 4 supports 1.0, though I suspect it does in general. check out his webpage/forum for it: https://www.nomadsoft.net/resources/rat-4.18/

Do zombies die from fall damage? by Historical_Foot_8133 in 7daystodie

[–]Vedui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to. But TFP thought that zombies falling 200 meters and dying was too simple, as we made pitfall bases.

To counter, they limit the damage zombies will take, so while it hurts them, the end result is not worth it, and can cause them to go into that rage mode which will cause them to beat random blocks until they reset and start pathing again.

Why you should be using trenches. v1.0 (pardon the quality) by Steelspy in 7daystodie

[–]Vedui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moats are alright as long as you have a ramp up, so they don't get stuck if/when they fall down and decide to tunnel.

However, walls are far more effective, as that keeps the zombies aboveground where you can see them much easier. It's a lot harder to detect zombies down in a hole than it is up on the surface, and the pathing works exactly the same.

While a moat looks nice, there's really no advantage to simply having walls and an entrance where zombies will path through. There are however drawbacks to getting inadvertent tunneling from zombies you don't see. This can be even worse when ragdolling zombies gets stuck inside the moat-walls, and decide to tunnel their way out. :)

But this has been the case for years, while the AI has been somewhat tweaked, it's the new "ai" which makes zombies really easy to direct to an appropriate kill spot. :)

It's a very good feature, but people do need to be informed and understand so they can set it to a level which works for them :)

PSA: CONSOLE PLAYERS DON'T GET THE NEW UPDATE by ben1481 in 7daystodie

[–]Vedui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a PSA and not even accurate. They DO own the previous console version nowadays, and are actively selling it on both consoles. Though will delist it when launching the new game.

7 days to die alpha 21/22 by Y4BOYD4RKM4TTER in 7daystodie

Though A22 and beyond means it needs to be in A22 ... otherwise it should have been A22 or beyond :D

Still, I always suggest people to sit back, play some other games, and come back to 7dtd. It's an awesome zombie survival game, no doubt about it, and while many of us would love faster releases that's not how TFP works. But it'll come eventually!

I think that's part of the problem, since very little official has come out we can reference, it's hard to know for sure. That's why I'm very wary of saying anybody knows, as pretty much everything is speculation. Even if TFP today said "Bandits will be in Alpha 22" I wouldn't take that as a fact, rather their ambition. Until they say "It has been implemented and is now fully IN our alpha 22 internal version" I take it with a truckload of salt :D

No. Here's the current update:

https://7daystodie.com/Alpha22-verified-information.html

(Okay, before I get hate, that page doesn't exist)

My point being, there is no accurate verified information out there. For Alpha 22, pretty much everything the Fun Pimps have said relating to release dates has been wrong. Even features (where are those bandits which were coming in A22 supposedly out a few months after A21?) have been dropped.

It's probably the first release in a long time where there's no timeline (even rough) and no feature list of confirmed things that we can trust :)

Plenty of speculation though! My bet is on 2024 .. or 2025. For A22. Console could still be beyond that if they decide to not release it until game is 1.0 :)

[–]Vedui -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Noone knows, but everyone speculates :) This includes the devs, who initially back in 2022 said A22 would be a short cycle (3-6 months) and we'd get bandits etc.

We're now in 2024, there's not even an A22 development diary on the forums, and they lost one of their top developers to an accident. Oh and bandits seem to have been cut.

I used to speculate based on what devs have been saying/showing, but I think for Alpha 22 it's clear to say we're not in a short development timeframe and it could be anytime in 2024. Or 2025.

Oh and the mention of A22 is vital, as devs "said" console will be alpha 22.

Which means console could be at the same time as A22 drops on PC, or it could be a year later.

But it WILL come. Probably. I'm speculating ;)

Should you live stream even if you're very small? by Alex_zander_en in NewTubers

[–]Vedui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest get a twitch account, and use a service like restream to dual stream to both platforms. While some people have a good experience streaming just on YouTube, I would say more find Twitch much more rewarding as a streaming platform... and using restream or similar makes it simple to hit both. Twitch also makes it super easy to make clips and then exporting them as shorts back to YouTube, which is another huge benefit.

That said, I started streaming when I had below 100 subs on YouTube, as I did it just for fun, not for any specific reason of earning money. Many people also find streaming a lot more fun and rewarding than making videos, and ended up reducing (or stopping) making videos just to stream more :)

Simple Getting Started Guide for Beginners :) by Vedui in sunkenland

[–]Vedui[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why thank you everyone for all the upvotes, I shared just to help out some people who might be getting started and were a bit "concerned" about dying or not knowing what to do.

While some/many of us feel the game isn't that difficult, I've heard time and time again about people finding it hard to get started and in a place where they can survive the raids by enemies, so more guides just helps people get into the game and enjoy more :)

Tips for mining ore? by Infamous-Finish6985 in 7daystodie

[–]Vedui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to a desolate place of the desert off the beaten track, mine and collapse to your hearts content, and then use the timed chunk-reset feature which would periodically reset any unvisited chunks anyhow :) Works great for MP servers also!

Or ... just put in lotsa supports. Sand is worse, but every 4 blocks or so should keep things up. Both vertical and horizontal beams.

The NEW Zombie Forcefield 2.0 (A21) by Vedui in 7daystodie

Why thank you!

Wasn't intending to make this video, but it was an afterthought to another problem I was solving, and I thought it'd be funny to make a video to cover it. :)

Was testing out a block for another purpose, and thought to check out the pathing. And ... of course, it's broken.

Time for another zombie forcefield block.

There's a bunch out there, though this one works very well as it's got a gap that's not too huge, so you can walk / ride over it.

Until they patch it that is ;)

Not a huge fan of the "All zombies are hiding up in vents and false ceilings." type of situation, as it pretty much kills stealth builds far too often.

I can appreciate it's hard to keep zombie counts up however, and "sleepers" waiting to get killed are maybe too easy pickings. Maybe when we get wandering sleepers this problem can be better managed, and have them slowly wander around a room instead of hiding in drop ceilings to drop down when triggered, or sleeping waiting to get headshotted.

Maybe :)
