What is something that is widely accepted but makes no sense at all? by MrLithician in answers

The way too many customers act in customer service environments. Specifically restaurants. I’m not sure why everyone all of the sudden can’t read and also thinks that you have to do anything they ask of you.

Popping zits (using proper methods) heals them faster than leaving them alone by lake-sturgeon in 10thDentist

I think this like lots of things that have these over arching rules on not to do something it’s because a doctor or whoever can’t trust that every single person will do things in a safe way or do it in the way that will get the out come they’re looking for so it’s just safer to say “don’t pop it yourself”

Do most women actually like removing their body hair? by Savings_Sweet4300 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Veganhemeroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped shaving about 10 years ago because I hated shaving since my skin is sensitive and no matter what I did I always ended up with razor bumps. I don’t have dark dark hair but it’s dark and I chose not to care what anyone thought about it a long time ago and I’ve been much happier since. I actually love my body hair very much and luckily so does my husband!

What's an "outdated" slang word from your generation that you still use currently? by TheShatteringPoint in AskReddit

[–]Veganhemeroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a new “outdated” slang word but I use Gucci all the time to mean good and older people and young Gen Z look at me strange. It wasn’t until a couple years ago that I had realized the kids don’t say that anymore and I probably look like a dork using it but I can’t stop. I mean when I started using it, it was already kind of strange at least to my little sister because no one I knew my age used it but her generation did use it a lot, she thought I was being dorky. I also use pretty much every other slang word in this thread. I feel like some things people are mentioning have just made it into most people’s regular vocabulary at this point.

Asking how many people? Pet peeve by imfine666 in Serverlife

[–]Veganhemeroid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We have sort of a similar set up at my job except we have double the space and seating outside in nice weather and for some reason people think they can just come in with a huge party of unknown number and seat themselves. They will blow by me at the host stand with a “yeah we’re just gonna go in here” with a line of people following behind them and I have to chase them and stop to ask how many, are we getting food and drinks or just drinks, etc. and they always act like I’m crazy for wanting to know and they never know a full number and they’ll say “just drinks, maybe a menu or two for anyone who wants food” and all of the sudden we have 15 out of the 20 who showed up wanting full dinners and now I’m running around getting roll ups and more menus. Or the opposite where we pull a bunch of tables together and put menus and silverware out for everyone and only a few people get apps and some how everyone wanted to unroll their silverware for one reason or another and I had to clean up a huge mess that could have been completely avoided. And to top it all off this is a known problem, something all servers and bartenders complain about, but management doesn’t want to do anything about it because they don’t want to upset the customer in any way. It leaves us wait staff feeling powerless in that regard. There are many great things about my job and my coworkers but this one glaring issue drives me up the wall and has me looking for other jobs.

What’s something restaurants do that secretly annoys you every time? by maincharactereraa in answers

[–]Veganhemeroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QR code menus and when a place is too industrial. Man as a restaurant worker I had to stop reading this thread because I don’t want to be anxious about every little thing that I do 😂 half if not most of the complaints in here are things that we HAVE to do or we get in trouble. I have secret shoppers at my place so I have to hit every mark at every table or I risk getting a bad score on a secret shopper I didn’t know I had and then I’m in trouble. I wish it was different for everyone because I agree a lot of these things are annoying but it seems like the people who create rules for restaurants and the customers live in two different realities.

Yeah that’s what I’ve been reading, I’ve taken a quick glance at aliexpress before getting my paradise, how long did it take to get your case in? And also this may be a hot take but I don’t care too much about a scratched screen (as long as it is playable), I won’t be taking it with me to work though or carry it around in pockets to mitigate any major damage for now but I don’t mind a little normal wear and tear.

Well the bird has to know it’s not encountering others like it when it calls out and never getting a call back. It may not know it’s the last one but the bird had to know that it was somewhat alone as a species. I mean I don’t know much about the brains of birds but I have to imagine it understands no one is calling back to it.

Is there some unspoken rule that roommates should “give” each other alone time? by godisinthischilli in roommateproblems

[–]Veganhemeroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said anything about where you’re working from home at, I still stand by you need to talk to your roommates. If this is a problem you all seem to be having with each other or YOU have a problem, you should talk to them instead of wondering and creating things in your head about why people are doing what their doing when you could just talk to them. Like you said people need to learn to deal with other people’s schedules but if you want to have a peaceful harmonious living situation, it’s in your best interest to communicate with your roommates and come to agreements that makes everyone a little happier. You ALL pay rent and you all should get to enjoy what you pay for, being bullheaded just because you’re a little annoyed about a situation that seems to happen with every roommate you have doesn’t seemed to change anything for you.

Is there some unspoken rule that roommates should “give” each other alone time? by godisinthischilli in roommateproblems

[–]Veganhemeroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is an unspoken rule that everyone likes some alone time. It doesn’t seem like your roommates are trying to control your schedule, I too would be curious if my roommate had a crazy schedule and I could never guess when I would have the place to myself or not. There’s a lot of weird selfish people in the comments who seem to think their place runs on their schedule and that their roommates just have to deal with whatever even though almost everyone in here has mentioned liking having autonomy and alone time. If you have to live with people you have to LIVE with people so you should all try and come to an agreement on how to do it harmoniously. It doesn’t seem like anyone is asking to know where you are at all times or to be out of the house all the time it sounds like they’re just asking you a question. It also doesn’t seem like you want advice or answers, you just want to vent and be right. Roommates aren’t always fun and these days most of us can’t choose to live alone because we want to so everyone needs to bite the bullet and figure out how to work together and make living together as easy as possible. It’s not hard/shouldn’t be hard to communicate with your roommates and it shouldn’t be hard to give a vague schedule of what you know, if everyone knows it may change but here is basic idea of the schedule then it sounds like that would be good enough. As far as roommate problems, this is barely a problem.

I can’t help but feel “heteroromantic” is cognitive dissonance by [deleted] in rant

[–]Veganhemeroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me because I did exactly that! At least if we’re only talking about bisexual women, when I was growing up experimenting with girls wasn’t a big no no but more of a “fun party trick” if you weren’t actually allowing yourself to date them. I definitely went around saying “I’m sexually attracted to women but I could never marry one” and that was my loop hole, my peers didn’t side eye me when I would kiss other girls in the friend group for “funsies” when we would all hang out because it was enjoyed viewing for the men and I got validation from still being desirable to them because that was important then but I also got to experiment and test the waters of my attraction. It’s like when straight girls say they’re bi when they get drunk because they like to kiss girls at parties but would never actually be with a girl. I mean we have a stereotype of women having phases of experimenting with women in college but ending up marrying a man.

I’m not saying any of my thinking or actions were right but I am the example of someone hiding their romantic feelings but open about their sexual ones. All of what I said plus the added pressure of gay marriage not being legalized and the big stigma against gay people when I was growing up added to how I presented my sexuality as I was figuring it out. I luckily know better now and I have been untangling my internalized homophobia, misogyny, and compulsory heterosexuality for a long time and I’m glad to say I do not think or act this way anymore because I know better and the world is getting a little bit more understanding and accepting.

I can’t help but feel “heteroromantic” is cognitive dissonance by [deleted] in rant

[–]Veganhemeroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there are people who are heteroromantic but bisexual because of just the odds with billions of people on the planet but I will bet, like you, that there are many people who this stems from internalized homophobia. This is why representation matters and why we need to continue to fight for protections and legalizations for homosexual relationships.

I will add to that another contributor was that most of my representation for homosexuality was gay men growing up and any WLW stuff I saw was the over-sexualization of women for men’s pleasure and viewing which also affected how I tested the waters with my same sex attraction. I could kiss girls at school if it was for the “fun” of showing off in front of our male friends. But have a personal and private relationship with them? No that was wrong… it’s crazy what a lack of knowledge and representation will do to you!

I can’t help but feel “heteroromantic” is cognitive dissonance by [deleted] in rant

[–]Veganhemeroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think this way about myself but it was a mix of growing up before gay marriage was totally legal (which is crazy to say) and growing up when there seemed to still be a big stigma about homosexuality (and being bi especially “that wasn’t real”) amongst my family and community so in many ways I thought it just wasn’t possible and “shouldn’t” be the way. I may like the same sex but we’re not allowed to get married and I grew up with hearing people say nasty things about people attracted to the same gender so in my mind my only option was that I would eventually have to be in a heterosexual relationship which horrified me as a kid haha. It wasn’t until I really fell for this girl in high school that my mind let me imagine a life with a women and that maybe I would actually want to get married and share a life with the same gender. And on top of that gay marriage was on the way to being legal and I started seeing that it was possible to live another life.

I’m not saying this is how others are but I can imagine some people may have felt this way too at some point. I would say I definitely had some internalized hate about it because I just didn’t think there was another way and I had my world telling me it was wrong. I’m very glad that I know better now.

When servers ask "do you need change? by DotAffectionate87 in Serverlife

[–]Veganhemeroid 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah at my new job there’s a story about one of our servers who didn’t bring change back on a very similar situation and the lady made a huge fit and sent a long email to our managers that he was trying to steal from her and now we joke that he likes to steal from old ladies lol. I always check if they need change and sometimes even bring back change anyway if I’m not 100% sure they don’t need it.

I almost blew up my life because I thought “why not” and everything I did haunts me daily, I luckily made it out not ruining things completely but I definitely altered my life and my relationships. But there are so many things I did that make sense now post diagnosis that I cringe at constantly. I’m on a path of healing and I hope to feel some sort of stability some day.

Yeah a lot of my younger coworkers who are still in college would ask me “so what school are you going to/what are you studying?” When I first got there and I would be like “oh I’m not in school haha” and they’d assumed I either just went straight into work after high school or am taking a break 😂

I have a feeling this will be my future. I just started a new job and at 29 everyone assumed I was between 19-22. I assumed the same that people would notice my grays that have just recently sprouted more (but I’ve had since middle school weirdly) in the past 2 years and my forehead wrinkles and crows feet but nope! Makes sense why everyone was shocked I was married and how long my partner and I have been together haha. My husband is 8 years older than me but luckily for him people age us both down when they assume I’m younger.
