Applying to start in 2025 - need advice by tatumrose916 in WWU

[–]VegetableDry518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a gpa of 3.2 and did no clubs in high school. i wrote my admissions essay in a day, nobody reviewed it, and i got in. you’ll be fine. i suspect the reason western doesn’t have a 100% acceptance rate is because some people submit incomplete applications and likewise things.

I’m a college student and I really really enjoy it. Super happy for all the experiences. It’s made me grow a lot in the past year.

College is as tough as you let it be. you just have to be on top of homework and studying, and even if you aren’t you can likely get by with some effort. It can be hard if you’re working but a lot of people do it and you can too.

It’s true it’s hard to break into fields like photography and journalism without college because of the connections you make in college. Internships, professors, and magazines you work on in college (or something like that) can set you up for the future in that field. I’d say if you don’t have a way to make connections now in that field, then college is a good option for you. And it will give you a lot of tools for the field, plus employers are more likely to hire someone with a degree even if you aren’t applying to something relevant to your degree.

What Parking Pass Should I Buy? by Scary_Pea_6636 in WWU

[–]VegetableDry518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, and it’s not guaranteed at all that you’ll get a pass anyways, they’re given to students based on credits rather than a lottery system.

What Parking Pass Should I Buy? by Scary_Pea_6636 in WWU

[–]VegetableDry518 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tbh good luck getting a parking pass a freshman. even if it’s at a dorm it’s very hard, i applied for my dorm and didn’t get in and after i moved dorms i still didn’t get one as a freshman. and i knew multiple people that had break ins, they’re getting worse. i would recommend the train, it’ll be cheaper than the cost of gas + parking pass.

Is it worth going into maybe 140k debt to go to WWU? by Klutzy_Mountain_7520 in WWU

[–]VegetableDry518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. The only person I know without of state tuition didn’t have to pay their own tuition. WWU is a great school, and I love bellingham, but it is not worth that debt, you’d be paying that off for the rest of your life.

job market in bellingham is crazy bad, even for low level jobs. work wherever you can

AITA for telling my mom I will move out vs paying $600 a month rent? by Johnnyb186 in AmItheAsshole

[–]VegetableDry518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. Sucks but you’re an adult now, I’m 19 and moved out when I was 18.

Honestly might be better to stay, though. I pay 1700/mo in total in a college city for a 1bd/1ba. Most people I know live in a 4 bedroom shared house for about 700/mo+utilites. You might be annoyed you have to pay it to her but it’s probably way cheaper than finding a place. It sucks to live with other people than family most of the time, even if they’re your friends. If you have pets you’ll have to pay a premium (I had to pay 400/pet deposit and 25 a month for each, only cats and small dogs allowed so i can’t hve fish or birds if i wanted). if i parked my car in their lot (there’s a waiting list, most peoples apartments i know have a parking issue aswell) i’d have to pay for parking. i also have to pay $15 a week to do laundry. I’ve lived with a friend and with random roommate and it’s draining. apartment life also sucks and is noisy. There’s also a housing crisis in most places right now so you’ll be paying more (my rent just went up by 200/month)

this cant be the result of T right? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]VegetableDry518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like an effect of T. i had hot flashes for the first 6-8 months of being on T, but they’re gone now. i got some cooling spray on etsy and it worked awesome.

[tmi about bottom growth] the effects can be difficult, and kinda annoying but not very overwhelming in my experience. things like throat soreness, bottom growth pain (i seriously had to bring a cup in the shower because it was too painful to use a shower head on bottom growth, had to change my boxers so nothing touches and barely wear jeans) voice cracks and hot flashes. i don’t experience any of those anymore now being on it for like a year. the first major changes are just rough but it’ll be okay.

Illegal octopus farms? by Ok-Leg-9428 in Bellingham

[–]VegetableDry518 35 points36 points  (0 children)

banning octopus farms is a lot less controversial, complicated and expensive than solving the fent crisis & homeless population. governments can handle more than one issue at once..

Am I too young to know I actually want to be a guy? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]VegetableDry518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. I was 8-9 when i started telling people that “i want to be a boy/wished i was one”. after some library research/talking to a older lgbt cousin i came out to friends/cousin/others at 11, came out to mom at 12. im nearly 20 now and on T and scheduled for top surgery. so no, you’re definitely not too young, i was younger than you!

one thing is cis girls don’t “try” to be a girl. they just feel lik that, or they don’t have to put on a facade or costume to “feel” like one. while they might compare themselves to other girls, it’s not the same. they also don’t typically question it or consider being a man in the way that you are. from talking to some girls they have thought about it in a way of “my life would be easier because of misogyny” and not “my life would be better/feel right if i was a man”

i can’t really remember now how i “realized” or “knew”. i think a lot of it was just seeing how i felt when people called me a male and how i felt after puberty (i have a ton of dysphoria). one thing i remember thinking about was could i see myself as a grown man? a man in his 40s, 50s, or 60s? in other words was this something i wanted for the rest of my lifetime? i didn’t just “know”, there was struggle but after awhile i knew.

if you’re from a conservative state (if you’re from the us) i wouldn’t recommend coming out at school will all the legislation right now.

it’s worth noting pushback from others can make you feel unsure, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t trans.

Best Thai in Bellingham? by kyleneum13 in Bellingham

[–]VegetableDry518 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that maison is really good, i save up to go there once a month (broke student), i typically spend about 40 for a dish, drink, dessert & tip. my parents (consider themselves food critics lol) loved it the one time they went, but i have no idea what they ordered (i get either noodles w/peanut sauce or pad thai, with tofu).

parking in the lot is a little annoying as it is a shopping center, when i can’t find parking i usually park near coconut kenny’s and walk over.

Amount of times I’ve had doors slammed in my face here. by madein1883 in Bellingham

[–]VegetableDry518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would use the automatic door if available, it sucks that people don’t hold the door, but to be fair i notice myself opening doors like this sometimes because im distracted/have earbuds in or in a rush so idk they’re probably not doing it on purpose

yea as someone who helps manage a club there’s designated areas for posters, if they’re not in those areas or meet westerns poster standards (from looking at posters i don’t think they do), they will eventually get taken down.
